Title: U.S. out of top 10 in economic freedom . .
Post by: sonofdaxjones on January 15, 2014, 07:44:14 AM
It's not hard to see why the U.S. is losing ground. Even marginal tax rates exceeding 43% cannot finance runaway government spending, which has caused the national debt to skyrocket. The Obama administration continues to shackle entire sectors of the economy with regulation, including health care, finance and energy. The intervention impedes both personal freedom and national prosperity.

Either side can call the other sides think tanks (and things of that ilk) lunatics any old time they want.   There's plenty of "lunatics" at left leaning publications and broadcast outlets etc. etc.

At the end of the day what it really means is someone is on to something and the other side just doesn't like the reality.

so that's what lunatics means.

putting aside the fact that this is a heritage foundation study, it's dumb that there are countries ranked above us that also have more expansive social programs.

it isn't dumb.  taxes and govt spending aren't the only variables considered as impacting economic freedom.

i'd wager that denmark's environmental, health care, financial, and other regulations are more strict than our own. more strict should equal less economic freedom but their regulations are probably more efficient as well. it's dumb.

it's dumb.

it might be inaccurate (or it might not, i have no idea), but it isn't dumb.  only considering taxation would be dumb.

i'm saying it's dumb that other countries are able to provide better regulation and better social services AND be more economically free than america. it is dumb governance by america that i'm commenting on, not the study.

they have the highest level of total taxation in the world (or close to it, i found different numbers googling around).  so as bubbles was pointing out, you can imagine how good they are on the other metrics.
