Despite plenty of sloppy play (that TO%!), the Cats managed to go on the road and beat a bad team bad. The best shooting night of the season (by nearly 6%) and great defense keyed the Cats to a 2-0 start in the Big 12.
Gipson and Foster continue to lead this team and both featured efficient scoring tonight, though both were great contributors to the TO problems (they combined for half of the 18 TOs). These two continue to give K-State and inside-out scoring combo that's tough to guard. No one else managed double figures, but a bunch of other guys gave solid contributions and led to a solid offensive performance (in spite of the TOs) that prevented this low possession game from becoming a last minute grinder.

deboarding has been really impressive during the winning stretch.

Here are the numbers just from our 10 game winning streak:

Yeah, pretty impressive when our OR% is 40.2 and our opp is only 27.0%
We continue to not let our opp make many 3s (38 in last 10 gms) or shoot a good % (24.0)
That first win vs LBSt, we had a ton of TOs, but in our last 9 games our Asst/TO are 148/98 (1.51 ratio)
Im ok with the 48.3% on 2pt (it would nice to closer to 50.0%), but would like to see our 3pt (33.0) improve. Love to see it be like 36-37%

Gipson, Foster, and Thomas are going to do alot of great things for this team this year and I look forward to watching it

10 TOs in the first 12:30 was rather frustrating.. especially since we had been ave 10 TOs per game in our previous 9 games. After that we settled down and acutally scored 51 pts in our last 40 poss (1.28)
Tcu ended the first half missing 14 of 19 FGs. We let them get a little comfortable to start the 2nd (6-13 fg), and the lead got down to 3, but then we got back to making a bad team take bad shots and TCU finished the game missing 10 of final 13 shots

Jevon needs to run some sprints and then shoot free throws or something. I think we have a thread on how to improve free throw shooting. 0-8?!
-
guyz, we are gonna win the whole darn thing! AGAIN!
-
Last night should provide some comfort to oscar that Will can come out for extended periods of time.
Also, that need to talk to oscar about Omari is becoming pretty big.

yes, this will need to improve. It will. can't get any worse. obvs.

would 0 for 9 be worse, or just the same level of bad?
-
I was very happy with our guards penetration/post passing last night.
It seems like TCU has enough size/athleticism at post where we shouldn't have out rebounded them or had our way as easily down low as we did. Bad scheme?
Anyway, if we can keep the omari zone mistakes down, we have a great shot at some fun games.
That said, I don't know if we would have beaten any other team in the conference last night with how sloppy we were.

True, but if you make shots, destroy opponents on the boards, and play good defense, you can make up for being careless with TOs. Also notable that at least the TOs didn't lead to runouts and lay-ups for TCU. Coming into the game TCU was pretty good defensively at forcing TOs, but 18 total and nearly 30% of the possessions is a legit concern. However, TCU was also pretty good on defense, especially eFG% and 2PT% and we had very good numbers in both of those. Offensively I was just as pleased that we shot 56% on 2s as I was in shooting 47% on 3s.

i mean, 0% is 0%

I recall the announcers talking about the TCU rebounding in the second half. something like, this TCU team just doesn't appear interested in rebounding - must drive the coach crazy. or something like that.

Then is partially Johnson's fault. When your team only rebounds 26% of their misses (#309 overall) that is by design as much as it is effort. That's a SLTH staple primarily because you play so you don't get beat in transition, essentially playing "not to lose". Its a terrible way to play the game IMHO.

IIRC, that was right before half. They spent some time saying how for many possessions, there weren't any white shirts even in the area. They actually came out of half and got something like 5 straight D boards or something and looked much better for a while there. That was also when they switched to Man D rather than Zone, so that probably had something to do with it too.

Not just a SLTH thing imo. It's also used by garbage coaches at low-major schools and in lower divisions. Very garbage-y and bad to watch imo

True. It's such a soft way to play. Just terrible.

the thing that sticks out to me is how much this team likes playing for oscar. we might not be his biggest fans but his players really like him.

If oscar is what attracts Marcus Fosters, we will definitely need to be ok with him.

Worse if at least one of them was a 1 and 1.
