Title: I cannot tell a lie, potential is brewing; GW ADV

GW isn't a top 10 team, but a solid one with a good chance to be in the NCAA tournament. They came in with a solid defense (.97 PPP - #57 kenpom, 46.4% eFG% - #88) and a pretty good offense (1.08 PPP - #94, 53.3% - #52, 41.5# 3PT%, #13). For several minutes it looked like it could be a serious battle as GW scored on 7 of their first 8 possession.

Then Jevon Thomas.

Thomas needs some polish in scoring and didn't have any steals, but his defense and passing ability was a key component for K-State to turn the game around and go on a 20-0 run. 6 assists with 0 turnovers and pressure defense that completely took GW out of their offense. He's going to have growing pains, but the hype for Jevon as a legitimate Big 12 point guard seems to be pretty accurate.

The other key going into Big 12 play is Southwell finding his shot. We'll see if it stays consistent, but he's finding different ways to score and hitting some 3s.

Foster isn't quite as hot as he was early, but you still look up and he has 15. Plus Gip still is scoring at an efficient rate. And the Cats are winning the obounding battle while forcing TOs in at a high rate.

Mix in some steady minutes from guys like Westicles, Will, Nino, Omari and DJamer and you've got potential for a solid league season, especially considering the disaster this team looked to be a month and a half ago. This team may still not be a NCAA tournament team, but I think they'll at least be on the bubble and with the solid core of freshman, the future of the program doesn't seem as bleak as many of us thought in November.

Ain't No Wooden Teeth!

Hippo ivory actually.

And if George had to try to cross the Delaware against Jevon's defense, he would've turned around and we'd probably be BBSing about cricket or soccer right now.

i mean, omari played a ton in a big win.  there was no way we were losing tonight despite that fact.

is it concerning at all that shane does not seem to want to shoot the 3 and fired up two of them that didn't touch rim? cause it seems like it should be concerning. also just saw that he is 8/15 over the past two games after i typed this so maybe i'm crazy and taking crazy pills.

It's concerning that Omari would not start for my 2A HS JV team yet sees time for my Cats

I think taking crazy pills is what a crazy person should be doing.  Would be more worried about sane ppl taking crazy pills.

Real talk: even if our frosh don't hit some frosh wall, our bench Will very likely kill us in a few important conf games this season.

I usually find myself guessing what his title will be sometime in the second half, I've never been right though.

He probably has a schedule at home with rough draft headline ideas scrawled all over it.  Step ahead.

I had thought that Jevon's arrival would eat into the number of minutes that Will had been getting, but based on today I think he's going to take minutes from Nigel instead. I like the way Little Johnson has been playing lately.  Will had his customary 28-30 minutes, just like he's been getting all year. Nigel's minutes got bumped down from his normal 17-18 to just 6 minutes today.  :frown:

Will has already reached his peak. He is as good right now as he is ever going to get. His stat line today included 1-6 shooting from the field (1-5 from 3-pt land), and 0-1 from the line. Nigel can do that already in his young career, and he still has a long way to go before reaching his ceiling. If we are going to get that kind of production either way from this position, why not go with the guy that tons of room before reaching his potential rather than a guy that has already maxed out his potential?

Fun statistic: as of 12/31, Will has been whistled for the most fouls of anyone on the team this year.

GW came out hungry and got the early lead 15-6.  After that it was just flat out domination for the final 35:30

GW 10-41 FGs, 26.8 eFG%, 0.66 ppp
Kstate 26-53 FGs, 54.7 eFG%, 1.06 ppp

I left one in the chamber against Garino.  Was going to tell him I chopped down his mother's cherry tree.  Couldn't pull the trigger.

Also, that GW was better than I would've thought.  They had solid guards and a ton of size/length and they eventually were forced to play a zone against us.  That is great news.  Also, oscar's recruiting has been very solid so far.  #bruceketball #10wins #top5

Cats now have the #12 kenpom defense (.926 ppp, adjusted to opponents, location of games, recent games more weight).
