Bringing up the Florida turnaround last year to pump ticket sales for Saturday's Gonzaga asskicking. If you buy that garbage, you deserve what you get.

I hate Ben Boyle but not because of his play-by-play but because he refuses to have an actual basketball analyst on the broadcasts. The tv and radio analysis he has used throughout the years is comprised of Stan Weber, Matt Walters, oscar Haertl, and Mike Clark; completely unacceptable. He and the rest of the ad wants K-State fans to care about basketball when he doesn't care enough to use one of the dozens of former players sitting around to tell everyone what the hell is happening on the court.

Boyle gets to choose his broadcast partner?

I think part of his job is hiring analysts. not sure though.

Boyle used to be the color analyst on the radio broadcasts before Learfield outbid WIBW.

That was a pregame show that they used to have, energy and Clent did it too, I'm 85% sure that Brian Smoller was in charge of that.

Boyle gets to choose his broadcast partner?

His job title is general manager of kansas state sports properties, the broadcasting arm of the athletic department aka learfield

Stanbot is basically the best analyst ever. If Boyle hired him, then Boyle did his job.

Maybe it’s just me, but I find that the color analyst rarely provides any insight whatsoever in any sport.  They just circle stuff and let you know what you already saw.  Dougie is an exception.

For the most part yes. Color guys have to cater to the lowest common denominator of fans so that limits what they can do. Very few are able to still get into some more detailed analysis while still keeping breakdowns simple enough that most fans can understand. JMHO.

yep.  i wish they would talk in more detail.  it isn't like people will turn off the game.  especially basketball.  there's so many timeouts/stoppages of play which require "talking" yet it's filled with garbage.

basketball does seem to have more "filler" stuff than other sports. like "this weeks ksu student of the week" type stuff.

Until the end, when coaches blow through 4 timeouts each over the last 2 minutes.

so what's the deal w/ ben boyle. don't know him or anything about him. why do people who apparently do know him not like him?

Used to like his color work on the radio. He's a lot more negative generally than Sunshine Stan. Living outside of Kansas I don't really hear much of their TV broadcasts or the hoops radio broadcasts anymore.

Was Sky good?

I don't agree with that at all. First of all I think Stan is very good at football he just needs to learn brevity. I do agree that a basketball analyst on the radio is less important and I say that as a former basketball analyst on the radio, but on TV a good analyst can really enhance a broadcast and there are plenty of good ones outside of Doug. A good television analyst can not only tell you in greater detail what you're seeing but can educate the audience like talking about FTr. Fran and Doug both did a great job educating us on the pinch post.

Just because there are a lot of terrible analysts who don't watch film and talk to coaches out there doesn't mean that they have little to no value.

Fun fact about BB, his son was once in a commercial for Beer Pong tables that used to run late night on Comedy Central.

Sky was OK.

I think the best color/PBP guys are the homers for pro teams.

The only problem I have with Color Commentators "dumbing" the comments down for more casual fans is that it makes a lot of casual fans think they know more about the sport than they do. I have two friends that have never played basketball or football in their life and they are constantly telling me cliched statements that color commentators use, which is making them think they know the sport. Even tho in football they have no idea what a nickel package is used for or they don't even know what a trap play is; or in basketball, they don't know what helpside D is and don't know various other things. This just erks me a lil.
