If they were eligible to play in the postseason this season, they surely would have been picked for this game, seeing as they have at least a .500 record in conference play. I would be much more excited about a Penn State/K-State matchup. They would be super motivated and excited to beat us for stealing Jake Waters from them, and we would be super motivated and excited to beat a historically elite football program like Penn State.
Michigan just doesn't excite me. It seems like the national perception is that beating Michigan is a lot like beating Texas Tech, or maybe Washington State for all you West-Coasters. Just a team who has been pretty average historically, with the exception of 1 or 2 seasons.
Plus, Michigan doesn't even have a mascot. That eliminates some of the fun pre-bowl activities. Remember last year when Willie beat the Oregon Duck in a push-up contest? Think of the great photo ops we're missing with this stud: (https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa.espncdn.com%2Fphoto%2F2008%2F1204%2Fncf_g_pennstate_mascot1_200.jpg&hash=3a469a5eeb9ec973127066aae1e66c3cc2d590d5).
Do we just have Willie take pictures with old, white, (likely racist) men in Lands End peacoats?
Pretty disappointing if you ask me.

I wont let my 8 year old watch Penn State football and he will be in bed before this game starts. No real change for me :dunno:
-
well i'd rather not play any big 10 school. it's lose-lose since ksu will be expected to throttle them.
-
I agree. Would love to play a team as respected nationally as Penn State. Also, you know Pedobear would make an appearance.

anyone acting like michigan is on a higher moral plane than penn state hasn't been paying attention to the civil rights suits that have been filed against their graduate schools for the last 15 years.

Yeah, its more than law suits against their grad schools that all of America is not giving a crap about at michigan.

interesting thread, thanks OP
Clearly, Penn State is a more elite, historical school than Michigan. I've been pondering this question......in terms of eliteness/history, what's your big 10 conference rankings? (THIS IS NOT ABOUT W's & L's)
Ohio State
Penn State
Michigan State
Wisconsin
Iowa
Illinois
Purdue
--------------- After this line is a wash, could be in any order, honestly.
Indiana
Northwestern
Minnesota
Michigan
Nebraska

Exactly. Michigan would kill to have notable QB alumni like Drew Brees and Curtis Painter.

I think you also forgot Kyle Orton.
Michigan did have John Navarre who was drafted in 2004 :Wha:
