Title: Yay, Maps!
Post by: OK_Cat on March 29, 2010, 11:07:03 AM
Felt the need to start a new thread about the awesomeness of this.

(Hemmy, please keep your stupid ass opinion in the other thread)

New MW2 maps for Xbox360 tomorrow.  3 new maps, and then 2 maps from MW1 that have been updated.

They look pretty awesome.

love how the anti-obama guy is a video game socialist.

One of the maps is a city-like atmosphere with apartment buildings that look huge.  That could be a lot of fun.

3 new maps, and 2 old ones, for 15 dollars

How can you rationalize that?  I wouldn't pay $15 for the entire MW2 game.

I can rationalize that better than paying $0.99 for Avatar Costumes and other silly crap like that, fwiw.  Agree that MW2 game is garbage though.

I would have paid twice that amount.  I feel like I am getting a great deal.

exactly, Pete.

$3 a map, knowing full well that I'll have countless hours of entertainment for each.  Great deal.

To be fair, it's 2 old maps you probably already have and one small map for cage matches (think Rust or Killhouse) that you'll (I'll) never play. So, $15 for 2 new maps.

DLd this morning.  It was broken. New maps wouldn't load, the playlist was mumped up, and the double xp was MIA.

Microsoft is still working on the update to make it all go.  Didn't stop them from collecting about 30 million dollars this morning before it was ready.  :curse:

I did some digging, looks like it's an xbox issue.

Should be fixed later this afternoon, apparently.

Totally rough ridin' pissed about this bullshit. Now I have to play god damn S&D, Demo, Sabatoge, HQ, and Flag Runner if I want to play the new maps and get 2x XP.  rough ridin' bullshit. had I known they were pulling this bullshit I wouldn't have downloaded the crap. Never.. NEVER buy another rough ridin' game from IW. I'm seriously melting down. All my friends want to drop MW2 and play BFBC2.  I hate the look of that game.

I think I may just start having sex with girls and give up gaming.

Played 4 hours on the new stimulus playlist with my group and we had a BALL. Never knew how much fun S&D, Demo, cap the flag, etc... were.  We were destroying people.  My KDr went up... ranked up from 54 to 59 (3rd prestige) and I am completely sold on all the new maps. Overgrown is bonerific.

Won't have to kill myself now.

this is a little off topic, but it seems like the only industry that is capable of actually forcing its consumers to buy its media is the gaming industry. granted its fairly easy to find rips of computer driven games, but it seems a little harder when you switch to xbox or ps3. is this true, or am i completely off base? could the music or movie industry learn from gaming?

360 is easy to hax0r but your console will probably get banned from X-Box Live so it's not worth it.  PS3 is tougher but again you run the same risk.

Another thing is DLC probably won't work.

Hell, the gaming industry is also making sure that not only do you buy the game, you buy it NEW (not used).  They are including codes for DLC in the box that only work once.

there's nothing that forces anyone to download maps.  it's completely voluntary and you can certainly go online and not notice any impact to your gaming experience if you choose not to download them.

there's also nothing to stop me from going to EB Games and buying a used copy of MW2 and playing it on or offline.  misconceptions abound.

I think you misunderstood my post.  I was pointing out that if you hack your console, you probably won't be able to play online, and probably won't be able to use DLC.

I also pointed out that publishers are starting to package DLC codes in the box for games for free, but charge you if you want to buy them separately.  This is an attempt to curb used games sales by adding extra incentive to buying new games.  For instance Mass Effect 2 came bundled with the "Cerebus Network", which you would have to pay for just for the ability to get new DLC if you bought used.

Eh - I don't think that.  I think the value is there paying $59.99 for a new game.  For 15-30 hours of entertainment that is cheap.  Cheaper than a movie, sporting event, concert, or even buying a movie/cd.

I also think back to the days where certain Super Nintendo games were 50-60 bucks, so prices really haven't increased too much over the years.

the majority of DLC is worthless crap anyways.  really the only thing worth having is the maps for games like MW2 and the songs for Rock Band.  people buying game skins/etc deserve to be ripped off.  there's nothing wrong with game publishers including "incentives" with their games, I usually throw mine away but whatevs

I agree, nothing wrong with it.  Agree w/ the DLC thing too, I generally don't bother with it.
