A lot of talk down here about OSU and Mike Gundy's media policy. He has not allowed quarterbacks to talk to the media this year, with a couple of exceptions early on. No real reason for it, but people think it's because he doesn't want anyone second guessing his decisions.
After the Baylor game, ESPN wanted Chelf to sit on the Gameday set for Sportscenter. Gundy didn't let him.....but Gundy himself sat on the set instead. Rubbed people the wrong way.
I hear a lot more of it because Chelf is a hometown kid.
What say you? I think it's a whole lot of nothing, honestly. Seems like something that D. Scott would whine about.
-
The Tramel article was the only thing i saw and probably started it. Guessing Gundy just hates the media. :dunno:
-
Well Gundy's a man and he can do what he wants. He's like 40 I think.
-
Chelf is from Enid. He probably possesses horrible grammar.

I can understand Chelf's friends and family being disappointed on the Gameday thing but the local media should be happy Gundy didn't change policy just for ESPN.
I know it is not a good development for KSU but I can't help but root for Gundy - the fact he is a homegrown guy that has elevated his program to near equal footing with OU is a great story. Also, dem dance moves.

:dubious:
-
Tulsa theory it's payback at an OKC writer for something from the beginning if the season.

Not sure what is so "weird" about the butthurt. Sports journalists are the butthurtiest of butthurts when they don't get 100% access to everything.
-
Chelf is a senior, no? If you want to limit access to the young and dumb then that's one thing. If a kid has been in the program for 4 years and just beat the #3 team in the country, let him talk.

Yep, sports journalists, print guys mostly, confuse themselves with investigative reporters. It's is hilarious how often they literally invoke Watergate as reasoning for access when something like this happens. I heard some print guys mad that FSU told reporters on Saturday night that Jameis Winston wouldn't address non-football issues, it's a current pending legal issue FFS, but that didn't stop the butthurt.

There are 12 year seasoned pros that run into trouble with things they say to the media, if you don't have to deal with the potential aggravation then why would you? There are coaches like Saban and Snyder that talk without saying anything but the hypocrite media won't call them out because they are afraid of being squeezed out. Trammel knows full well that Gundy can't squeeze The Oklahoman so he's grandstanding. He wouldn't have written that about Barry Switzer's OU teams. You think RGIII wishes that he wasn't forced to talk to the media right about now?
I say all of this as a former media member and a J-School degree holder

The best is when the coach of a national title contender wouldn't let his Heisman trophy candidate speak to anyone in the media, but then the week before the biggest game in program history he let Sports Illustrated walk in and talk to him. :D
