Creativity encouraged. Help me finally prove my aunts and uncles who said I'd never amount to anything wrong and show them that I rule and they are old washed up losers no one likes. Best way to do this is a great app or side dish for T-Giving Day.

Yeah I'm going for the "Wow our nephew CF3 blew our minds with this amazing side dish, he really made himself into something" as the reaction. I think that would get the reaction "Is CF3 still an undergrad or something? Probably, because this reeks of lazy on his part"

Buy cracker barrel cheese, slice sheese, add wheat thins, walk out a champ!
-
Not a side, but bread pudding with rum sauce. If not, peach cobbler. Sides are for chumps. When ppl get dessert, there isn't anything else on the plate. Focusing on your dish. Also, ppl like desserts.

We make this every year, and it's even better the day after on the sandwiches.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4176014
Every year as Thanksgiving approaches, fans ask NPR's Susan Stamberg for her mother-in-law's recipe for cranberry relish.
"It sounds terrible but tastes terrific," Stamberg says of the Pepto Bismol-pink dish.
Below is the cranberry relish recipe, and a bonus recipe for another Stamberg favorite — garlicky cranberry chutney.
Mama Stamberg's Cranberry Relish
2 cups whole raw cranberries, washed
1 small onion
3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons horseradish from a jar ("red is a bit milder than white")
Grind the raw berries and onion together. ("I use an old-fashioned meat grinder," says Stamberg. "I'm sure there's a setting on the food processor that will give you a chunky grind — not a puree.")
Add everything else and mix.
Put in a plastic container and freeze.
Early Thanksgiving morning, move it from freezer to refrigerator compartment to thaw. ("It should still have some little icy slivers left.")
The relish will be thick, creamy, and shocking pink. ("OK, Pepto Bismol pink. It has a tangy taste that cuts through and perks up the turkey and gravy. Its also good on next-day turkey sandwiches, and with roast beef.")
Makes 1 1/2 pints.

Bacon wrapped dates are amazing. Great suggestion.

Ingredients:
-Sweet potato or pumpkin or butternut squash or acorn squash
-Baguette (ideally with diameter of 1-2 inches)
-Spices and junk
-Onions
-Goat cheese
1. Take a baguette (ideally with a diameter of 1-2 inches) and slice really thin. Toast the slices. (You could probably use little toasty crackers or whatever.)**
2. Roast some sweet potatoes or butternut squash or pumpkin until squishy. When it's done, combine over low heat with S/P and any other spices that tickle your fancy. Garam masala? Sure, if you got it. Cumin? Yeah, if you like it. Cinnamon? Yeah, if that's what you're going for. Anything else? sure. If you want to add a little bit of cream because you have some in the fridge, go nuts. You're trying to show them that you rule, right?
3. While the delicious orange flesh is roasting, mince and caramelize some onions in butter on really low heat with S/P. Add brown sugar and other spices if you want to get buckwild.
4. Layer the baguette, then a dollop of spiced orange veggie, then then a clump of goat cheese, then the caramelized onlons. If you want to mince something green and sprinkle over for garnish, that would probably look nice.
5. Watch them get devoured while everyone talks about how you've amounted to a lot and you're awesome and grown up and stuff. Little do they know, you basically just made a baked sweet potato and put it on some toast.

**This could all probably be done with filo shells if you're going to Rick Davis's house,

Do I do anything to the 'choke hearts before we biggity bam them into those shells? Or is this a straight marinate and bake scenario?

That's a good option but I'm going to a gathering with like 30 people, so I'd have to make six of those to make it feasible.

Shouldnt @AST have something great to make?

Mind blowing side dishes (not appetizers) are difficult. Everyone is so loaded up on the essentials; mashed potatoes, stuffing and green bean casserole it's hard to find room on the plate for something out of the ordinary. I have also been tasked with providing a side dish (along with a dessert and a stout cocktail for the group), but not one of the ones mentioned above...I've done a cold green bean, tomato, mozzarella and fresh basil salad in the past, usually goes over well. This year I'm thinking a "Parmesan vegetable spiral" or an onion au gratin dish. The vegy spiral looks easy, but feeding 30, you'd have to make several...check pintrest, it is a very shared pin.

Corn casserole. Ridiculously good. Goes with a Thanksgiving meal. The only way you can mess it up is by eating too much of it. (It's not even a little bit healthy.)

CF3, I won our office dip-off and a $15.00 gift card to Starbucks with the following recipe. It will blow your mind.
Angies Corn Dip recipe
Two blocks softened cream cheese, one chopped red pepper, 1/2 to 1 chopped jalapeno depending on your preference, two small cans finely chopped black olives, four cans sweet corn, drained, two of the dry packages of hidden valley salad and seasoning mix (don't get the ranch) Mix all together and let sit overnight in the refrigerator before eating. I like to eat with tortilla chips but this dip is so good that sometimes when I serve it, people just eat it with a spoon.
