Title: Strategies for staying warm on Saturday??
Post by: Emo EMAW on November 20, 2013, 09:52:31 AM
Hey Cats fans.  It's going to be pretty cold out there on Saturday, and I don't want any of you freezing up, so I'm posting this public safety thread on how to keep warm during the game.  Now we all know heat rises, so I'm going to start from the bottom up.

Foot warmers.  I use these because it's all anyone wants to get me for a birthday or Christmas.  I have tons of these things.

(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.buckmans.com%2Fcms%2Fstore%2Fimages%2Fcart%2Ffoot_warmers.jpg&hash=79cf20637ab3d03a49b47273cf4659857a04fa79)

You can pick them up at Cabela's or Dick's or any Orvis Endorsed Outfitter.

Socks.  You're going to wear them.  Might as well wear warm ones.  I recommend wool or other wool/synthetic mixes.  Stay away from cotton.  Thick/lofty socks will keep you warm, but only if you don't smash them into some tight fitting shoes.  Remember it's the loft that keeps you warm.

Boots.  Wow, tons of options.  Let your heart guide you here.

Undergarments.  As for keeping your balls/vag comfy, it's already been discussed at length here:  http://goEMAW.com/forum/index.php?topic=29501.msg942701#msg942701

But you should still wear some other form of long johns or something under your pants.  Merino or some moisture wicking synthetic is a good material choice.  I like these from Simms (they also make a pullover).

(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.redsflyfishing.com%2Fv%2Fvspfiles%2Fphotos%2Fsimms-downunder-mm-bottom-2T.jpg&hash=c362813a7769a1d9ce013ae3d74c6fd417385bda)   (https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.simmsfishing.com%2Fmedia%2Fcatalog%2Fproduct%2Fcache%2F2%2Fsmall_image%2F231x318%2F9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95%2Fd%2Fo%2Fdownunder-merino-top-black-base-layer.jpg&hash=ae30723ecd319061aa2a5187c541e7390f5dcee9)

Remember LAYERING keeps you warm.

Pants.  Are you a jeans guy?  Okay, wear jeans.  Are you a sunup to sundown farm humper?  Rock those Carhartts cowboy.  Do you have mad swag?  Play on playa.  Just stay away from the skinny jeans.  I don't care if you have great buns.  They are too tight to keep you warm.  You want free circulation down there.  After the game you can change and go twerk it at Aggie Station.

Tops.  I'm not too particular here.  Just make sure it breathes well.

Jackets.  I like a good goose down jacket.  Lots of people make them and they've gotten really warm and light lately.  Mine is black but I've seen some companies make them in purple.  But what if it rains or it's windy as eff?  Throw a shell over it!  Goretex, obvs.  It'll keep the wind off you no problem.

Hats/Accessories  Look at this rough ridin' thing.  It's great, isn't it?  My mom got me one of these in Moscow in the 80's.  It's so awesome.

(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.furhatworld.com%2Fimages_wm%2Flarge%2FMink_Full_Fur_Russian_Hat_302.jpg&hash=62af2116078da5b68c653aafb0685ae22aaa458b)

Any questions?  Nope, okay moving on to gloves.  I'm actually sort of torn here.  You could wear something warm and bulky but what about using the touchscreen on your smartphone?  Uh oh!  BUT WAIT!  HiFun makes these sweet ass gloves with Bluetooth so you can just talk into your hand like it's your rough ridin' phone!

(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.likecool.com%2FGear%2FTech%2FHiCall%2520bluetooth%2520gloves%2520by%2520hiFun%2FHiCall-bluetooth-gloves-by-hiFun-1.jpg&hash=b332a330292e5a6904ab24d8dfef2c3f2beff807)

The future is now, apparently.

Last but not least...

Fuel.  Your body is literally a furnace.  Pour any alcoholic fuel into it and it will burn it to make heat.  I recommend the following:

(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.weblungs.com%2Fhoustonliquors%2Fliquor-large%2F080686374602.jpg&hash=6840f17201cb408654a0c6b1dbde00d37c8d6cce)

It's pepperminty, warm, will make you all tingly, and it'll fit nicely inside your waistband for discreet passage through the gate.

That's it folks.  My way isn't the only way and there is certainly lots of room for you to incorporate your own styles and preferences.  I just hope to get you thinking ahead so you can enjoy the game comfortably.  Hopefully some other ArcticCats will chime in with their own tips and tricks!  Go cats!

Oh man!  Used to do stadium blankets to Kansas City Wiz games back when they were at Arrowhead.  We'd take our girlfriends and there might have been shenanigans going on under the blanket.  :fatty:

Can't personally confirm soco but yes enough of your favorite booze will make you oblivious to freezing cold temps so you don't have to lug all that stuff in to the stadium.  How can people see your chest paint if it's covered up by layers of jackets?

Freshman year, 2006, the Texas Saturday night game was about 34 degrees and I canconfirm that about a liter of your favorite hard liquor can keep you from getting cold, even if you were shirtless and painted your chest so you could get on national tv

When I was a kid I went to many frigid games at arrowhead, and my uncle always brought a piece of cardboard for everyone in our group to stand on, the theory being that it insulated you from the cold of the concrete on your feet. No idea if it works.

There's a good chance that I wake up pretty drunk on saturday morning, so a 375 of hot damn or canadian whiskey should keep me pretty warm.

Also, crew neck/patagonia combo works wonders.

Yeah, the engineering dept of the KSU Cats did a study that debunked this practice about 12 years ago.

if you're looking to achieve the most heating bang for your buck, just keep in mind that your body loses heat most rapidly through your head and through your feet.  Keep those insulated.  Also, in spite of the fact that heat rises, for some reason it's always warmer the closer you are to the field.  I suspect this is a result of the "bowl" effect of the stadium...trapping heat in.  Also you don't feel the wind as much the lower you are.

Also FWIW there was a study done a few years back which found that skin to skin contact was the best way to keep warm with others  :fatty:
