Title: rules question
Post by: Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) on November 09, 2013, 01:13:01 PM
I didn't think wr's were allowed to block while the pass was in the air.  Am I wrong? Does the big xii just not call this penalty?

Ttech does it a lot

If the ball is caught behind the line of scrimmage you can block when the ball is in the air.

Thanks.  So, is it safe to assume the big xii just doesn't call it?

Also, that's a stupid distinction for a rule

Its one of those things that is rarely called, along the lines of pick plays WRs run all the time.  I've really only seen it called if the opposing coach berates the officials enough

Yes, with quick play offenses is even worse. We've had plays with linemen 10 yards down field and not had calls.

They can go as far down the field as they want. The ball just has to reach the line of scrimmage before they go further than 5 yards.

Should clarify, we've had linemen 10 yards down the field and threw the ball down the field. It should have been called illegal receiver down field, but it was missed. That's a bit different from this thread though, which is probably addressing bubble or now screens to receivers with other receivers initiating blocks before the ball is caught.

I'm talking about the play where their wide receivers engage our dbs in blocks 3 feet in front of the refs face so the receiver 8 yards down the field has room to catch the ball. Its rough ridin' bullshit, like the flying v from the mighty ducks

Yeah, that should be called.
