More than I love #LIFE
-
He's probably really nice to waiters and service people. I don't dislike him as a human.
-
He's kooky and funny. People are really missing out on this due to BID butthurt.

I'll put you down for #2.

Or watching these freshmen grow into a well coached team over the next few years.
Hmmmm, see I am of the opinion that if you have the experience of Will, Shane, Gip, DJamer, Omari, and Nino, you had every chance to demonstrate your coaching against Northern Colorado.
-
Hate him.
-
Over him. Meh. Still hate currie.
-
Over him. Meh. Still hate currie.
He's not over you CNS. Not by a long shot.
-
I actually hate him more as a person than as a professional.

:alleyoop:

he walks in my 'hood I wave at him and when he goes to eat at the neighborhood clubhouse only the really old fucks gaf that he is there..
I just hope he doesn't become to attached to me and cry when he gets fired
-
I actually hate him more as a person than as a professional.
This is where I am. The "He's a really nice guy" talking point is dumb. You know how hard it is to be nice? About as hard as it was for Northern Colorado to get the W last night.
-

I reserve the right to resume hating his face.

I meet tons of not nice people daily.
-
I don't mind that he's a nice person, it just has no bearing for me on his job performance.
-
He's not nice, he's a passive aggressive douche bag incapable of personal responsibility. I bet he talks loads of crap behind people's backs while being fake to their face.
-
You can see his genuineness is an act. Can see it in his eyes. His whole face is lying except his eyes.

he's a bad person. if my daughter Sara brought him home for dinner I'd tell him to leave

We both know Sara wouldn't do that
-
I hate him as a person and a coach. As a person he has made no attempt to learn social cues, or care about how his personal appearance would affect those that he is associated with. He seems to be very uncomfortable with taking responsibility for things when they go poorly, even if he is the sole reason that things went poorly. He spends a ton of time on the road "recruiting", yet he doesn't land any good recruits. I think he probably just hates his family and doesn't want to spend time with them. What a dick. As a coach, I think he falls in love with the three ball even if he doesn't have good shooters on the roster. He loves Will and plays him way too much even though Will is a terrible basketball player. Our team seems to be getting worse at rebounding and grabbing loose balls the longer he is our coach, definitely looks like the residue of Frank's toughness is wearing off the team, and eff oscar for that.
-Since he mows his own lawn, I think I'm going to start planting man-eating weeds in his yard under the cover of night when springtime rolls around.
-
If he was a nice person, Angel would still be on the team. He's a dick.
-
How many fools will be on here ranting about how they love oscar when we start winning. Fickle suckers.

I think I'm officially inspired again to do live* twitter coverage of his radio show. Hope some of you guys join The Ed in calling in this year!
*could be the following day if I have stuff to do; also may need somebody's kstateo.tv sub.
-
And I voted pro and personal hate.
What size is his neck?
-
I despise everything about him.
-
oscar tries hard to be a good person. I can't judge him as a human, but I can judge him as a basketball coach, and my judgement is he sucks and I hate him.

I think Chaz is being very optimistic.

I know chum gonna chum but I'm not sure its BID butthurt on the heels of a home loss to Northern Colorado.

I HATE THAT WEIRD DORK LOSER WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING. He looks like a guy who would say "Gosh" a lot, and I hate the word gosh. Also, he wears absolutely awful polos that look like he bought off a Dillard's sale rack. It's embarrassing to see him walking a recruit's family thru Jardine in whatever blasphemy that he was wearing.
-
I didn't dislike him until I got to know him a little bit.
After his opening statements during his introductory press conference, it was obvious he was a joke as a coach and a jerk as person.

Like most coaches, Weber says who finishes a game is more important than who starts. While Southwell has come off the bench early in the first two outings, not starting the game is a sore point.
“It’s not cool to be a senior not starting, especially when you feel you’re the best player on the team,” Southwell said.
Weber said starting jobs are earned in practice.
“You have to do it every day in practice,” Weber said. “He’s got to be consistent. I can’t hand anything to anyone. If other guys play better in practice, you have to give it to them. Everything has to be earned, and that’s what we’re trying to drive into him.”

When Shane played he sure didn't show he was the best on the team.

oscar is no Huggins to Shane's Cartier.

Great thread, great effort.

You know, I think I dislike him a little more than yesterday. Very good chance I dislike him a whole lot more tomorrow.

That is not a good development for oscar. oscar loses teams like nobody's business. He's like top ten in the country good at it.
This could be really fun tho. oscar loves to talk crap on players in the press. Seems like Southwell is game too. Exciting times ahead maybe.

Do you think he does this for motivation? I think he's been calling out the upperclassmen for this reason but I'm not sure they will take it that way. They certainly won't if they don't respect him.

He does it because he's a dumbass and bad person

I'm certain oscar would tell you he does it to motivate, but he's a huge "it's not me, it's them" kind of guy when the going gets tough. It really shines through when he's feeling the heat. He typically only starts this crap in earnest when he's dropping games he shouldn't. Then the players tune him out on the court. They start to get this going-through-the-motions, zombie look. oscar of course continues to yell his dipshit instructions unfazed.
I think you are correct when you say they don't take it the right way if they don't respect him, and oscar's problem is I don't think any of his players past or present respect oscar when the team is losing and he starts this schtick. oscar walks a fine line when it comes to his players' respect for him. If they're winning I think they accept him, but I don't think deep down they have a legitimate respect for him even then. They might pay lip service to the notion, but it doesn't look genuine in their interactions with him. He just doesn't have the self-confidence to inspire it. Then when this crap starts all bets are off. He no longer gets the "good guy/goofy eff, but we're winning" pass.
-
Any chance we could get more goofy oscar GIFs? Please.

This might be the worst KSU team ever in the last 30 years and that takes some rough ridin' work to pull that crap off

The worst since Huggins? Yes.
However, I don't see a season like 96-97, 99-00, or 00-01 from this team.

that 2001 home loss to western carolina looks kind of familiar, as does the 2001-2002 season

oscar after the ORU game:
My thing is, I keep asking, “How do you guard? And what do you do?” I understand the hand touching outside and all of that stuff, but when a guy drives to the hoop what do you do? I just do not know what to do. It is very frustrating.

You recruit someone over 6'2" to play the post dumbass
-
You go play the rough ridin' game you used to only don't constantly stiff arm the guy with the ball. Then, you review the calls every game and find what else to do.
I hate this guy.
-
I hate oscar, too, but this new officiating really does suck. College basketball is just unwatchable. I only watch K-State because I feel invested. I can't even watch the rest of it anymore.

By the time March gets here, it will be much better. It's just a very hard transition to make.
-
oscar:
We have a quote on our locker room wall that says, “what is greater your excuses or your desire?” We have too many excuses and not enough desire.
oscar try practicing what he preaches.
And that quote is the most unispiring quote for a locker room. Reminds me of the "Eliminate bad football".
I hate this guy.

People keep saying this, but I have no idea why it would be true. Are the refs just going to revert back to the old way they called fouls or something?
-
Thing is, if our two seniors playing a lot would have been anything but complete dog poop against NCU, K-State would have probably won the game pretty comfortably.
I am still somewhat stunned at how non smooth Shane Southwell is at anything involving taking the ball to the rack.
Spradling is just bad.

Players will adjust and start playing defense without doing as much of what the refs are now whistling for.

So they will stop defending?

Some of the stuff that the commentators have been mentioning is easily stopped. For example: the guys doing the champ classic said the refs told them that defenders can't reach out and put a hand on the offensive player with the ball and hold it there. Said that they can touch them and can touch them often, but can't hold it.
Have also heard that one of the goals is to get the defender to stop slamming into the offense with their bodies. This has been happening everywhere.
Obviously they are targeting reaching excessively as well.
If enforced correctly, this seems like the rules that most of us grew up playing. It will definitely negatively effect the defender's ability to keep between the dribble and the basket and will give benefit to those with good handles and a quick first step. If implemented well, it will raise scoring. I can definitely see that.

Said that they can touch them and can touch them often, but can't hold it. Well, that's not how they have been calling the games so far.
Have also heard that one of the goals is to get the defender to stop slamming into the offense with their bodies. This has been happening everywhere. Those fouls have always been called. The new fouls this year are when the defender is just playing good defense and gets slammed into by the dribbler.
Obviously they are targeting reaching excessively as well. That's fine.

I guess I just don't see why increased scoring is a good thing. If they want to increase the scoring and flow of the game, they should make the shot clock 24 seconds. Calling 50 fouls per game doesn't really accomplish that goal at all.
-
Agreed. The idea is that eventually kids will guard diff and there won't need to be as many calls.
As for the why, the game has gotten crazy physical of late. I personally thought it was fine, but can understand why some see that as bad.
I personally felt like the allowed contact leveled the playing field for teams not used to being NC candidates in that you can recruit kids that are athletic and play hard defense without having to out recruit Cal, Self, Izzo, etc. The problem is that you end up with a product where a PG has to handle the ball like a running back on a layup until it is actually time to lay it in due to all the bumping, slapping, and stripping attempts.

I think the new officiating style will actually benefit coaches like Frank and guards like Rodriguez and Clemente the most. Angel was always pushing off when he was dribbling down the court, and that is going to draw a lot of fouls now.

Weber sucking confirmed once again. eff him. :buh-bye:

To answer the OP, a lot

If he plays the 3g 2sf lineup next year we wont have a chance to do anything significant,

I love the dichotomy. It's fun.

#teamfence was always the preferred option. i just couldn't see past my blinding emotions. much like the former j-dub's gf upon our demise.
-
Don't get too high or too low this season, fellas. Let it ride.
-
i still hate him, i'm not sure i can fully blame him for the team giving up. a lot of the blame does rest on his shoulders. foster was getting good looks. i think that if he goes 4-7, instead of 0-7, the team is in that game. we laid down.

I'd put my disdain up against anybody's.

My biggest source of discontentment with oscar, other than being a poor coach, is the level of awkwardness and embarrassment he brings. I hate feeling embarrassed that he is associated with my university.
And, much like Frank's toughness became a part of the entire basketball program, I feel like oscar's embarrassing nature has done the same. Our brand went from tough/badass/OOD to playhard charting with the other dude at the thing. I mean, at this point I really believe that I would still dislike oscar even if we were winning games.
-
someone at work said that they heard oscar was canned on the radio.
Got super excited
-
How in the world do some of you not dislike him as a person? The way he never takes responsibility while shifting blame to players is reprehensible and reflects poorly on his character.
-

This is kind of where I'm at. I fully believe in people taking responsibility for their own actions and problems and oscar does none of that. He seems to relish being a victim in fact. I can't stand that.

Frank Martin destroyed the Volunteers Saturday...
http://www.espn.com/ncb/recap/_/gameId/400910791
and he should....
They are 15-14, 9th in a bad hoops league...
but let's review from less than a month ago....oscar got embarrassed over there..Not one Tennessee opponent has scored fewer than the 58 points Kstate (and Georgia Tech) collected in their loss to an average Volunteer team.
Just doing my part to illustrate how bad it is....so we don't get too numb.
