i watched the end of the butler-osu game, in which the deciding seconds of the game featured smart ramming himself into a defensive player (foul called), five straight missed free throws, some butler player driving straight down the middle of the lane and missing a weak layup, and another butler player taking 6 seconds to dribble up the floor and throw a three point attempt off of an osu defender's hands.

I don't think I've seen more one-sided officiating in 8 1/2 years!!!! ,Since the Seahawks/Steelers Super Bowl...pretty much if CU didn't attempt a jump shot, KU was being called for a foul often on obvious BAIL-OUT calls late in the game...see 5th called on Embii when Dinwiddie went 1-on-3...was basically out of bounds & jumped into Embiid who was vertical and hada good block..or consider Johnson at the line late AFTER jumping into Ellis who had the position and the board.

Since CU wants to schedule KU, I still think the Colorado University clinical psychologist, who purposely made passive aggressive, unethical and biased, less than accurate comments about the excellent quality of my work was a thug who permanently harmed my career. The Law School at CU is also no doubt a piece of garbage to enable organized crime of various kinds in the USA, such as cocaine trade high end drug dealers. why? i agree that he hasn't done enough to attract texas and above, but it seems to me that there's a lot of schools that lie between colorado and texas. he's making 1.5 btw, was making 800k until this year (was making this, for example, when kstate was looking for a coach).

That was t.i.c although I don't feel as strongly as you do. He voiced frustration that all coaches have with their teams. I don't think it was a calculated effort to fire up his team, nor do I think that would actually work. I think it was just a frustrated coach that lost his filter.

basketball refereeing is just kind of impossible. at the beginning of the second half they called a foul on wiggins and i kid you not wiggins never touched the guy, the sdsu player had tripped over his own teammate.

Interesting tidbit in tonight's telecast. Josh Pastner recently fired the team's strength and conditioning coach b/c of differences in philosophy. S&C coach was also his brother in law.

I don't think Groce is much of an offensive coach if such a thing exists. It looks like complete crap and is even less effective. It amounts to some pointless ball screens and a little passing round the perimeter and then a one on one move to the basket. There is no system as best I can tell. It's laughably bad. Of course now opponents clog the lane and it's no longer one on one to the rim and yet we persist. It is a bit amusing to watch how lost the players look now that they've been properly scouted. It's what having no answers looks like. Illinois basketball as an allegory.

Both seem equally bad when they don't have good players. oscar put up some real crap shows, but it was a thing to behold with Self's leftovers. Groce is more flexible, but it doesn't appear to be helping. Last year all we did was jack up threes even though we weren't very good at it and now all we do is drive the lane because we are even worse at shooting threes. So he adjusted, but it's failing miserably.
He needs better players. This season is mumped imo. I won't be watching without a tape delay from here on out unless they improbably string together some wins. I get no joy from this. A 25 point man-raping followed by a loss to the worst team in the conference and them undermanned no less. So very tired of piss poor ugly basketball. I just don't have the fire anymore. It's been steadily, relentlessly extinguished over a period of years. It's so predictable in its disappointment. Kind of good, kind of not. So very boring. There's really no payoff. rough ridin' meh to Illinois orange and blue indian U sports. Meh right in their mediocre rough ridin' faces.

True, the system can be great, but if you don't have some talent it doesn't matter.
I remember the fall of K-State basketball in the 90s being similar to your description, but Illinois is far from the lows K-State got to in the early 2000s.

Drew gonna Drew means he can lose by nearly 20 to Texas Tech. It also means he can compete with KU in Lawrence and I wouldn't have been shocked if they had won there.
Of course, once Baylor started missing some 3s and KU quit turning it over every third possession the game was over since Baylor didn't play much defense. I suppose their length/zone defense contributed to the turnovers but still.

Drew gonna Drew means he can lose by nearly 20 to Texas Tech. It also means he can compete with KU in Lawrence and I wouldn't have been shocked if they had won there.
Of course, once Baylor started missing some 3s and KU quit turning it over every third possession the game was over since Baylor didn't play much defense. I suppose their length/zone defense contributed to the turnovers but still.
It's frustrating when more teams, kstste, won't some KU. Frank wouldn't do it and oscar seems to be afflicted with the same thickheadness.

So here is the quick recap. Ucla was down 7 with under a minute. They got it down to 4 and hit a 3 with 6.8 seconds left.
Oregon turned the ball over (player stepped out of bounds). Ucla missed the game winning shot, but fouled UO with 1.3 secs left.
Oregon made the 1st FT. The question now comes into play do you make or miss the 2nd FT. (Ucla no timeouts down 2)
He mad the 2nd FT, but UO was almost in a full court press, all 5 ducks were on one side of the half court (no one guarding the goal end)
A Ucla player went long. A baseball pass was delivered. The ucla guy caught it and shot a 28 footer. Bang!!

It was really a fantastic ending to regulation if you haven't seen it. I imagine it will get shown a ton on ESPN all day, even though UCLA ended up losing. If UCLA wins, the last second (of regulation) 3-pointer is the #1 play of the week.

Ohio St lost at Indiana today. They lost to Penn St (rpi 106) and Indiana (88) this week making their Big 10 record 9-8
Ohio St 22-8(9-8) and Iowa 20-9(9-7)... 2 big 10 teams Ksu could be battling to maybe get up to a 6 seed here in a few weeks.
Iowa went 1-2 this week (they had a makeup game) and Ohio St went 0-2..... while we went 2-0 and got a win over a team who is a top 4 seed and top 15 AP opponent

What their record "should" be. It's a somewhat sloppy way of saying they weren't really as good as their record led many to believe, and the recent losses have painted a clearer picture of how good they really are (and were).

If you flip a coin and get heads 10 times in a row, then flipped it 10 more times and got 5 heads and 5 tails, it would still be regressing to the mean.

Their stud Ennis is only 25-67 on 2pt and their 3 pt bomber Cooney is only 9-43 from 3pt (in those 6 gms)

That's the beauty of it; you can't predict sports. _FAN is the smartest sports fan I know, and kenpom is probably one of the smartest sports guys in the world, and no matter what evidence they have laid out before them it's still not science. So when Boston College wins at Syracuse, it seems like it would be way more fun for stats people than it would be for the average non-BC sports fan.

Many times after games or even during a season fans say all kinds of stuff about why teams are "good" or "bad". Often, especially among fans who don't follow stats or that follow dumb stats, they are wrong.
For example, on road games we've talked a lot about how many easy shots K-State has missed. While there is truth to that, K-State actually shot the exact same percentage on 2PT shots at home as they did on the road so far this year. However, the Cats have shot 8% worse on 3PT shots and turn the ball over nearly 2% more, so those are much bigger problems than missing "easy" shots.

SMU lost, Memphis lost, Iowa lost. That is all good news
VCU rallied to win. They were down 11 and Richmond only had 3 FGs (3-22 FG :sdeek:) last 14 minutes (31-13 VCU run to end game).

Cats got beat for a 3rd time by Colo in 2011....few days later we got a 5 seed and CU was left out. That shocked a lot of people on both accounts. That being said, I don't like our chances now of getting to the 7 seed , in part cause I don't like our chances to beat isu. 8 vs 9 seems likely...... But The committee is never 100% predicable.
