fireplaces are so ridiculous.  it's 2013 guys.  we don't need to physically set crap on fire to stay warm anymore.

can't say i'm surprised Ofc. RD is trying to fanningbrag about his fireplace.

'stone- have you seen those fireplaces that are double sided? like you can watch the fire on one side and then walk to another room and see the other side? anyways. i doubt rick has one of those.

surely someone could have come up with a better name than fireplace. way too literal for my tastes.

I used to buy like a sixth of a cord a a time.  Storage kinda sucks, though.  I realized you can get much smaller amounts for basically the same price as long as you don't get it from a grocery store or similar.  So, I just pick up a couple of small bundles every other week or so during the winter.

They have too much of a Boogie Nights vibe to them

A rick is 1/3rd of a cord and usually the smallest unit you should bother with.

This picture illustrates both, the 3 rows (ricks) make up a cord

Check craigslist or your local newspaper (oldtimers who sell firewood, use oldtimer advertising methods) for some country guy selling firewood for extra money.

Nuevo Casa de Casey el Muerto doesn't have a wood buring fire place.  Old joint did.  I miss it.

Rick, you are like two months too late.  I cut down 5 huge ass trees in my back yard recently.  No one I knew wanted the wood, so it went to a huge burn pile on my family's place.

It saddens me to learn that d'12 is in the pocket of Big Energy.

Limestone and I had a fireplace in college.  We burned that sucker all the time.  When we ran out of wood, we used the privacy fence outside of our building.

Rick, just cruise over to one of the many Mike Lin properties and load up.

Fireplaces are great, except for those that are gas fueled. What's the fun of simply opening the valve and putting a match to it? Too easy. I like building and starting the fire myself.   :)

I completely agree.  My house has the gas insert thing (was there when I bought it), and it was clearly put in well after the house was originally built.  Sucks.

When I was growing up our families main source of heat was a huge wood burning furnace in the basement. I have sort of fond memories of listening to the Chiefs with my Dad when we went out to cut wood on Sunday afternoons, but I hated coming home and unloading it, then loading it through a tiny window into our basement. As a result I would never have a wood burning device in my house for any reason.

Landlord says I can't use my fireplace, so the pakhead hangs out in front of it. He's wearing Dr. Jack's hat right now.

LOL. Should have known that rick would be starting a firewood thread to ask someone to give it to him rather than do the work himself. What a lazy piece of crap.

I like imagining you growing up in the depression and wearing a newsies cap and suspenders and stuff.

I love fire and firewood and fireplaces and campfires and bonfires and the way your favorite old hoodie smells after you've been sitting around a bonfire for a few hours

mhDad has a hardwood pellet stove in his basement. high school metalhead used to have to carry an entire ton of pellets, split up into forty pound bags, down to the basement every fall. high school metalhead did not like it.
