Title: Friday's Snack-Off (10-25-13 Edition)
Post by: Dr Rick Daris on October 25, 2013, 10:14:18 AM
"but eggs aren't a snack daris", is what you will say. "get out of my face" will be my response.

eggs, oh eggs....love 'em or hate 'em, people eat them by the dozens (literally). so why not talk about them? ok then let's talk about them. chickens lay 'em, we eat 'em. the question of the day is, how do we eat them? well we eat them a lot of different ways. sometimes this way and sometimes that way. let's get a little more specific though. what's your favorite way?

1) hard boiled-throw them in some water and get them nice and hard that's what she said.
2) deviled-going to be honest here. no idea how these are made. is it a special chicken and they lay them like that? i'm pretty sure that isn't the case but oooh baby do they go down easy.
3) scrambled- oh hey let's take this egg and then just stir it like a mad man and then cook it. basically the suicide drink of egg dishes.
4) over easy- really an in your face egg dish that lets you know that the egg is really two separate dishes.
5) over medium/hard- basically the roller coaster chicken line if the roller coaster was named over easy. good try though.

ok so there it is. lights, camera, action. let's get ready for another edition of friday's snack off!

What about omelettes? Do they go in the scrambled category?

i considered the omelette because i love the ever loving bajesus out of them but then i said to myself "daris you only love omelettes with stuff you like in them but would hate them with stuff you don't like in them". olive omelette? gross. so long story short cf3 i did not include omelette because your idea of an omelette and mine would be different. what i did do is put omelette on the back burner (lol) for a possible future snack-off topic. thanks for listening though and be sure to weigh in on the aforementioned possible selections. thanks.

i considered poached but then i quickly said gtfoomf nobody just sits around and eats a poached egg.

"oh hey what's up?"
"oh nothing. just taking a work break and eating a poached egg."

"ok sir. you're going to have the breakfast special. how would you like you're eggs done."
"poached"
"yeah lol. seriously though"

Does this look like just a hard boiled egg and some miracle whip?

A guy in the maint dept where I work just eats them raw for lunch.  Cracks a small hole in the top and sucks the inside right out.  Occasionally eats raw hamburger meat too.  He would be disappointed there is no raw option on your list but then again he is a crazy person so maybe its best we don't encourage those types of people.

A lot of these are good ways to eat eggs, but not really as snacks. Who just eats a fried egg as a snack - more like part of your breakfast, amirite?

Deviled are the best for snacking. Also, maybe pickled...Where is the pickled option? Or is that a subset of hard boiled?

I'm a scrambled guy, but I love all the eggs listed. Today my b-fast (short for breakfast) was two fried (over easy) and a piece of ham.

I like to put salsa on eggs.

Also, I like to sneak a hard boiled egg into my mouth while making a salad at P-Chopper.

quite the barnburner so far with deviled holding a narrow lead. in my head i knew i should've just combined the over easy/medium/sunnyside up crowd so they could have a legit shot at competing with deviled and scrambled but hey, if you can't stand on your own then you don't have much of a leg to stand on then do you, humpty dumpty? now get up off that wall and go cast your vote for favorite egg style before the polls close in this weeks episode of Friday's Snack-Off

Definitely deviled, because I down about 20 of them every holiday. But I never make them at home. "How do you make your eggs at home, Stevesie?" you may ask. And I'll tell you. I make them over-easy with a couple bratwursts on the side. I also sometimes make scrambled eggs, and then putt an over-easy egg on top and smash it so it runs all over the scrambled eggs. It was served best on toast.

It's about equal parts sausage to egg ratio. They're both the main course.

to clarify, when we say deviled eggs we are considering one deviled egg to equal one half of an actual egg. that's what we're talking about, right?
