BITB had the Lord of Big 12 Referees on tonight to talk about the new rules changes. They have the stated goal of cleaning up the rough defensive play on the ball and wanting to create more jump shots and more ease of motion for the offense....as well as cracking down on cheap charges (that part sucks for Sprads, but oh well). The Lord of the Referees called this the most significant rule change in his 30 years, and basically guaranteed higher scoring and more jump shots ("J's").
What does this mean?
It means that oscar's motion offense is basically a lock to be rough ridin' nails, and that thug defense like Huggins and Frank are the buggy whips of college basketball (LOL at the gamecocks).
Thought that I'd pass this little nugget along to the rest of the board, and basically make your rough ridin' day. YOU'RE WELCOME! FTB, go cats.

Now we just need a shooter.

Forgot to mention that the Lord of the Referees said it's EVERYONE in the USA that is doing this new rules thing, and not just the Big 12. All the Ref Lords agreed to it, across the entire land.

We literally have no reason to play sprads now that he can't flop the lane up.

Well, if he's not getting completely shut down when he has the ball on the perimeter, then maybe he shoots that Shawnee Mission South jump shot (you know, the one that hasn't worked since he was at Shawnee Mission South and the defenders had to stay off of him when he had the ball) he was famous for!

What do the new rules say about defenders being able to run full speed when guarding will?

Currie had to of seen this coming

sounds like the breaks are going our way this year.

Does any player on our team even have a jump shot? I don't think think this will help.

Shane and Will should have one, if given the chance....we've always been told its there...
Westicles and the other new guys will be interesting to see.
-
Its pretty presumptuous to assume you know how a rule change will affect the outcome of games. Huggs is probably the GCOAT in the history of Men's hoops so he'll be fine.

Whoa, hey, let's not throw around a bunch of things we may regret saying later. I am not presuming, I am predicting. Way different my man. Half of this is science.

I don't think oscar believes in jump shots.

Will Frank Martin coached games go 4 hours now?

Will Frank Martin coached games go 4 hours now?
And ejections

Will Frank Martin coached games go 4 hours now?
Over/under on the number of games Frank's teams finish with fewer than 5 players on the floor?
I'll go with 3. Maybe 4.

Want to know if oscar was aware of the impending rule changes? Look at this years freshman class.
Well played oscar.
-
Focus on perimeter roughhousing = more roughhousing on the blocks? I think so.
-
Finally. College basketball was getting to be almost unwatchable.
-
thanks for the news Pete. ftb

Well played oscar.
also surely motivated gip's inertia drop

Looks like Currie knew what he was doing when he hired oscar.

boom, shake shake shake the room.
room=bramlage coliseum aka the purple palace.

Guys, I hope The Ace of Base(boss nickname for point guard with deep voice) is fully healthy this year. We can't have a sprained hip, disjointed ear, or herniated non-shooting hand effect his shooting all season again.

Forgot another hilarious part of the Lord of Referees interview with BITB....
The Lord is trying to give BITB an example of how this will improve the game, and he brings up Steve Alford and some other old school small white guard and basically says "the way the game was being played before this rule change, those guys wouldn't have been effective." And then says that the rule change "let's athletes be athletes and frees them to score on the perimeter more."
I found it amusing that his only definition of an "athlete" is apparently a jump shooter. I could picture Frank Martin's blood boiling.

ISU is going to win the conf.

Rumblings that Athlon Sports will be issuing a revised list of top 50 coaches. :Wha:
-
Well, you know, its difficult to play on the road with all these rule changes. You think your guys can play one way, but then they can't so you just fold your arm and stomp your feet and hope for the best... sometimes (all the time) it doesn't work out.
-
"We were allowed to be a lot more physical last season which as you can see is the method of play we prefer and excel at. It's going to take us time to adjust to the new rules and we will definitely have to focus on getting the right personnel on campus for us to play that way. It's a process that takes time."
-
haven't those things always been fouls?
the physical teams will continue to beat the crap out of people some games will be officiated like the ksu/mizzou game several years ago
fans, tv, espn will complain and refs will back off.
-
So, do the too cool for schoolers who prefer defense by mugging and Frank Martin style shitsketball offense get angry when a K-State player is mugged but nothing is called?
-
No. I hate how many fouls are called in a game. Let'em play.

I just liked winning, even if it meant games that approached 3 hours. If someone can win with a little bit cleaner version of the game I would also enjoy that, last year was fun for me.
I'm with Cire, I'm anxious to see how much the officials really enforce these "changes", especially when we get to meaningful games in conference play.

ya know, Bill Gates was too cool for school.

The first person on this board who can prove they're worth $67 Billion (Forbes 2013) will get pass from the "Too cool for school" label.

Sounds like it's time to go scan my pay stub.

After watching the KU game, I really hate this new "everything is a foul" rule. The worst part about it is having to listen to the commentators talk about it for two hours, but the number of whistles really gets on my nerves, too.

everything is a foul when you're playing KU in Lawrence. this is not a new rule.

They were blowing whistles on KU, too. It was bullshit.
-
the games early in the sesaon will be the worst as the officials make it a point of emphasis. will be interested to see how the ku/duke game is called.
-
A lot of it is way over due. I know this is upsetting for many on this board who were proud supporters of $hitketball offense or fapped it repeatedly over Brad "Pinch Post" Underwood bailing an utterly clueless Frank "I don't know what to do with these guys except scream at them" Martin out of the fire a couple of years ago (but I digress). But the level of thug ball had gone to far.
-
The new rules will not create any more flow in the game. It won’t make it any better. It doesn’t/didn’t make the NBA any better.

Primarily because so many more players these days can't shoot the basketball.
Chicago was under 25% from the field last night. Laughable.
-
Frank's formula of basing the team on physical defense and rebounding was working and will continue to work. It makes sense for a place like Kstate that is not going to win many national recruiting battles and has a program like KU down the road that can make it difficult to get the top regional guys. Add to that Franks commitment to recruiting size and success with developing some raw prospects in a time where there are fewer and fewer teams with quality size and depth makes it a good plan for long term success.
Additionally, there seem to be fewer and fewer "Defense and Rebounding First" type young coaches - Drew, Ford and Hoi are all clearly offensive first type coaches. Similar to Big 12 football I would rather be the odd duck playing the unusual style than try to beat Briles, Gundy, Holgo and Kliff at their own game.

Its an adjustment Fred already had to make.

Listened to this segment on 810 as well. First thought was....Frank's screwed.

yeah, driveway hero's are impressive. know what's even more impressive? making a shot when you're getting roughed up.
-
you guys know what's fun? watching a basketball game that doesn't have a whistle blown every 20 seconds of game time. that's pretty fun.
-
winning is fun.
.

Frank Martin's offense is about getting to the line. He'll be fine.
