Title: Why do we always play nobodies to start the season?
Post by: rej7878 on October 14, 2013, 06:17:22 PM
Occasionally, we play more well known teams, but does anyone know of a legitimate reason that we almost always play a few lesser known teams at the beginning of the season? (i.e. build confidence, work out kinks, maybe even give the little guys some national attention?) I'm sure Coach Snyder has reasons, I'm just wondering if anyone might have some insight into what they are?

First of all, this is a phog sock, probably Tim. Secondly, name another conference who plays 9 conference games. Lastly,  :flush:

First off, I'm new here, so I don't know what a phog sock is, but I'm guessing it's a bad thing. Second, I realize we play a few well known teams before conference play, but not always 3 well known teams. I'll be honest, I don't follow college ball except KSU, so I have no idea if this is common. I was just wondering if KState/Snyder had a reason behind it. It just seems like a lot of people rag on us because of it. And so, no matter how well we play or what our record is (like last year) they (analysts, other football teams, coaches, whoever) never seem to take us seriously because of those first few games. I was hoping someone knew more about it than me.

every team schedules a few easy games, basically a glorified practice.

Google "LHC Bill Snyder success!" It might help. If you wanna build a program from scratch, you schedule a to build success. The conference is brutal enough as it is. Heck, KU has the same model, they just lose to that craptastic schedule. Only school I know in the history of time to get swept by Rice. :flush:

Dear sweet rej7878, that is an excellent question. Don't ever stop being curious. You actually remind me of a young me, so precocious and full of wonderment. The sad truth is that no one knows why LHCBS does what he does, and we can't begin to understand the way his mind works. All we can do is trust in the process and try to ignore the bad people who say mean things about us along the way. So run along now and thicken up that skin. You're gonna need it. Cats.

I follow KSU football and basketball. That's about it. I can't say I'm much of a sports nut.

Maybe I wasn't very clear when asking. I just wondered if anyone knew of a legit reason we do this.

The same reason video games throw pud enemies at you when you first start the game and they get steadily stronger the further you progress through the game.

So, we don't play nobodies.  Far from it

The question answers itself, rej.

Yes; LHC Bill Snyder pretty much wrote the book on how to do it.

Anyone else find it odd that timhawk had the immediate responses to the first two posts from this "new" poster. The responses also weren't in landon's usual angry dumbassedry manner.

Ndsu always plays a bunch of never weres when it comes to fbs teams. It gets annoying when they go on to have crap seasons after losing to ndsu. Iowa state will be that team next year

I don't feel like that's saying much about ISU next year, they have mediocre seasons at best.  But you can always hope they take out a powerhouse.
