Of all the fanbases in the country that don't deserve a good team, TCU and Baylor have to rank near the top among BCS schools.

How many did BU bring to MHK yesterday? Maybe 250? If you don't have enough fans to support your team, then you don't deserve a good team.

And that picture of TCU... woof. During the realignment hysteria a couple of years ago, I was adamantly against adding TCU because they bring nothing to the table. They have a tiny fanbase and only one good sport. Pictures like that are going to be extremely common in Ft Worth.

Blah. Life is so unfair.

Next year every stadium we play in on the road will be empty after halftime. 1st half it will be super packed full of people because everyone wants  a glimpse of the Heisman front runner, but we'll be so far ahead at half that everyone will just leave and go home.

UNM is laughably absurd.  it's everything houston is but worse and also houston stinks as a realignment option so that's how far down the list UNM is in my book.

UNM is in a metro of 1+ million and would be the sole major program in that state. Covers everything outside of program success that you mentioned.

ETA: Recruiting would also be an improvement over west rough ridin' virginia.

Correct. Why spend your money to see your team beat KU when you can sit in the comfort of your man cave and watch many more interesting games, the outcomes of which are not given? And throw back a few while you're at it?

Neither does ISU. I still cannot believe that we never added Louisville.

An "empty stadiums" thread probably isn't the place to debate this particular argument. This season, about the only BCS Conference-esque thing ISU does in football is fill a stadium, and they do that pretty well.

a collection of quotes from tcu fans explaining their terrible attendance Saturday

Thanks Stefan for sending that out to the world. Why don't you head into the concourse where thousands are packed trying to avoid heatstroke and take a photo? What a tool.

I saw people pass out today. It was HOT.

What made the misery factor awful today was that there was not a breath of wind, the humidity and the heat... I saw three plus people needing medical attention... This makes two home games that have been dangerous for many to sit through because there was no wind and high temps... TCU should have built a domed stadium like some of the northern teams (c'use, Idaho and ND State)... Outside stadiums in areas of the country with extremely high temps worked when early games were at night..

Hey guys, most of our fans sit in air conditioned homes or offices during the week. So to ask people to sit 4 hours in the Texas heat and humidity is asking a lot.

Something needs to be done about this issue, namely installing shade devices.

It was 85 degrees or so but the dew point was 71 and the blazing sun made it miserable.

How much would it cost to add a dome to the Carter?

My car thermometer said 96 degrees when I got in right after the game.

We are a fanbase built on families with kids. We normally had night games while in the MWC except for November and our crowds grew and grew. These early starts topped off with 90+ heat in the direct sun are killing our fanbase.

Has Texas ever played on a hot day during the day time?

SRO at K-State, Arrowhead appeared to be packed, I watched the aTm vs Miss game it was packed, Michigan with all time attendance records . . . yep, death.

the chiefs getting good again will the absolute nail in the coffin for the last thirty or forty ku fans that still make the saturday morning k-10 death march. i half expect to start hearing some rip their effing heads off chants before arrowhead kickoffs.

I would think they would want to pack that place to see the first ever home Big XII win, but I guess maybe I'm not so smart.

Yeah, the NDSU game was just an absolutely gorgeous day/evening.  I mean you could have just laid out there comfortably for a couple of hours without water before needing emergency medical attention.

I remember seeing TCU's mostly empty stadium last fall (maybe the Oct 20 game vs TTech?) and searching twitter to see what the excuse was. People were blaming Fall Break.

I think everyone knew TCU was a mistake even at the time, but there weren't many options. IIRC, it wasn't like we took TCU over WVU or UL, it was more like "take them to stop the bleeding". Too bad we couldn't have landed both UL and WVU. Would have had a little more continuity, better sports, etc.

why don't they use the fact that they have less than 10k students as an excuse?

Might have something to do with the Christians.  Usually does.

For some reason, Christians have a natural aversion to attending games at outdoor arenas.

in tcu's defense, they have the coolest (temperature-wise) concourses in all of the big 12.  go cats.

I love the effort Tom but these pix are best when you have a football play happening on the field. Could easily be 39,000 die-hard Illini fans party rocking in the Illini Tailgate Zone waiting to storm Memorial at kickoff.
