by how much does baylor beat us?
I'll say 51-30, and I'd be very happy with that score.
-
K-State with Sams playing most of the snaps is 3-4 spots higher than Waters at QB.
-
Is Baylor this year's WVA?
-
Texas looks bad.
-
Baylor will lose 4 games and finish middle of the pack.
-
Baylor will lose 4 games and finish middle of the pack.
It's possible, but they look better on D, no other team looks great on offense, Petty looks better than Florence, and Seastrunk is firmly established. I think they'll be right there.

I bet Baylor wins this rough ridin' conference by two games.
WVU's dog crap defense held OU to under 20 on their own field last night. WOOF.
-
Nope, not two games for Baylor....the more I think about it, the more I think it will be a two team race between OSU and Baylor, but BOTH will be two games ahead of the rest of the pack.
TWO HORSE RACE! :ridinghorse:

Better than the Big East
Whether the overall league is good is always up for debate, but I ask come bowl time who will win BCS games. I don't think anyone in the Big XII can hang with Teddy Bridgewarter and Louisville, Ohio State(?), Oregon/Stanford, Clemson/Miami/possibly FSU and a slew of SEC teams right now. So I see the Big XII being no better than the 6th best conference after the first two weeks.
But back to the thread, after the first week I still had no doubt that K-State remained a contender for the Big XII championship since I don't think the league winner has probably less a chance at a national championship this year.
I agree with everyone that Baylor is looking pretty good. But Wofford (never really heard of them until last week) and Buffalo have a combined 1-3 record. Today I see it as a toss up between Baylor, OSU, TCU, OU and KSU. UT and T-Tech may end up in the mix, but I don't see KU, WVU or ISU being contenders. However there is always next week.
-
It's a rough ridin' shame that we have a dynamic leader world class athlete that could be spearheading our offense and 5 home games against a woefully enept league and we will likely squander it.
-
by how much does baylor beat us?
have you seen A Serbian Film?
Is that like a snuff film?

This week will mostly be a crap slate for the Big 12, but there are a couple fun ones. I really am interested to see if TCU's backup QB is any good against Tech. And, Ole Miss at Texas will be fun. KU at Rice should be illuminating as well.

Sat, Sep 14 Oklahoma Tulsa Norman, Okla. 11:00 a.m.
Sat, Sep 14 West Virginia Georgia State Morgantown, W. Va. 11:00 a.m.

but i'm no the best sports guys so screw me
-
Is Baylor this year's WVA?
Their swing won't be that wild but yeah, kinda
-
Yes, Boykin is TCUs other QB, they were running a 2 QB system this season before CP broke his arm.

yeah i didn't follow tcu closely last season except for our game where Boykin either ran or threw 42 times against us
don't know who qb'd the rest of the year
like i said, screw me
-
Boykin is a nice player and a better fit for the make up of TCUs roster - he is kind of a poor man's Sams

I bet Baylor wins this rough ridin' conference by two games.
WVU's dog crap defense held OU to under 20 on their own field last night. WOOF.
If I'm OU, I'm throwing up due to the fact that Jake Heaps' QB rating is almost 20 points higher than their QB combo.
And Jake Heaps played like dogcrap this week.

Yes, that's correct, and no, he's not very good.
-
Boynkin is a fine qb.
-
Boynkin is a fine qb.
He's okay. Granted, I haven't watched a lot of TCU this year (I skipped the game against LSU and watched some of the SELU game), but he doesn't seem much better than what we have or what anyone else has.

He's serviceable.

He's no Daniel Sams, is what you're saying.

:lynchmob:

I'm excited to see the TCU-Tech game this thursday.
I like Tech in a little upset.
-
Sorry if this respects up this thread/board, but does anyone else wonder if Tech will master both Leach's offense via Kliff's tutelage, and have the benefit of Tubberville's rebuild on defense? If so, then Tech is underrated in most of these rankings. TIA.

ESPN's later power rankings are out. An excerpt is presented below:
7. Texas (1-1, 0-0 Big 12, last week: 3): The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire.
8. Kansas State (1-1, 0-0 Big 12, last week: 8): LHC Bill Snyder’s bunch bounced back with a nice performance over one of the Sun Belt’s better teams in Louisiana-Lafayette. Maybe the Wildcats are better off using two quarterbacks, as Jake Waters (278 yards passing) and Daniel Sams (63 yards rushing) got the offense moving in different ways.
9. Kansas (1-0, 0-0 Big 12, last week: 10): Justin McCay made good on his vow to end the Kansas receiver scoreless catch streak, and the Jayhawks handled South Dakota after a shaky first quarter. Next up? A tricky road trip to Rice, which figures to reveal where exactly this Kansas defense is.
10. Iowa State (0-1, 0-0 Big 12, last week: 9): Kansas won its FCS opener. Iowa State did not. But the Cyclones could jump-start their season next weekend. Take home the Cy-Hawk Trophy for a third straight season, and nobody in Ames will be talking about Northern Iowa.

Yup, Rice is favored by 4-5 pts. Also, we haven't won a road game since Reesing's Jayhawks beat UTEP in 2009, I believe. But this is a year to cap those damning statistics. We already have a WR touchdown after going all of last year without one. Those nerds better be ready on Saturday, because they're gonna be smarting when it's said and done.
-
Yeah, Iowa is rough ridin' terrible. Man do those guys hate Ferentz now.
Wow, waiting for Iowa to fire him so Currie can make that his marquis football hire.
I bet Currie goes after Mack. I really wouldn't even be upset with that.

How freaking awesome would it be for Snyder to bring Mack on the staff next year
-
Is OU's defense that horrible or is WVU's defense that much improved? Or is it a combo of both being average?
-
Is OU's defense that horrible or is WVU's defense that much improved? Or is it a combo of both being average?
OU's Offense may be that bad - Knight was a %50 passer in HS and it is pretty well established Bell is not a great fit for the Bradford/Jones style of offense. They have good talent at the skill positions but I am not sure Huepel can maximize what they have.
-
Will this be a place of comfort after losing to Iowa, or will I be bombarded with hatred and laughter? Planning ahead now.

i don't really think anyone will care, TBH

I don't know about you guys, but I'm excited to play in a crappy conference for once. Out of all the years to do it, this is the one.
-
Will this be a place of comfort after losing to Iowa, or will I be bombarded with hatred and laughter? Planning ahead now.
This matchup has no winners for us, this game is as relevant as Bowling Green vs. Akron.
-
Is OU's defense that horrible or is WVU's defense that much improved? Or is it a combo of both being average?
Combo of so many things that night it would be impossible to judge yet. Most turnovers by OU in like 12 years, some were WVU's D, some were just bad OU (Knight) choices. WVU actually looks to have improved the secondary, but I mean, what else could they do?
OU will have a great running game against average D-lines, of which WVU does not have at the moment. If they have to resort to a passing game, though, they won't win more than 7 games.
-
I don't know about you guys, but I'm excited to play in a crappy conference for once. Out of all the years to do it, this is the one.
I agree. Baylor is the only team who looks good and they haven't played anybody yet. If they can't stop the run, we might have an outside chance at winning this thing.
-
Would be glorious for a team that lost to FCS to win the conference.

Then again, KU bros are saying the program is lightyears ahead of where Gill had them so who knows? Depending on how they do this week, they might be favored at home against LTU.

Louisiana Tech is really, really shitty this year. I realize the jaychokes are just terrible rough ridin' awful this year, but still. Maybe one more. TSC guys.

Yeah, you're right. I remember thinking before the season that LTU was going to be pretty good, but that was based on how well they did last year (including against our Beckmans :shakesfist:) but they've been getting roughed up pretty bad.

I dunno, The KU - Rice game should be close:

KU should beat La Tech (close again though)
Louisiana Tech 30
Kansas 34
Close against ISU too!

Iowa State 32
and for kicks (for Mr Bread):
Illinois 32
Louisiana Tech 35

yeah but those are conference teams and Weis has a proven track record of being absolutely 100% incapable of beating big 12 conference teams so we might be at an impasse. what will happen? who knows for sure?

He's from your city. You could have kneecapped him before he ever reported to his first day of freshman camp.

Mixing his toot with rat poison would have been a much easier way to incapacitate Bell.

Flood Aggie (stupid moniker) is really shitty, but they are 3 TDs better than KU.
WVU, UT and TCU are also really shitty.

Is Rhodes getting fired after this year, or are Iowans still impressed enough with his lack of accomplishments to give him another year to right the ship?

Hey, with the death of the Big East, someone had to become the new worst BCS conference!

Absurd. Using this logic shouldn't everyone have KSU or OSU 1st? I'm guessing like none of you have seen ISU play, Iowa pounded them. They have a fair number of fans who rightfully think they won't win a game this season.

Since KU last won a conference game:
1. OU = 18 + 1 Big 12 Champ game win
2. K-State = 15
3. OSU = 14
4. Baylor = 10
5. Texas = 9
6. Tech = 7
7. ISU = 6
8. KU = 0
For this year, switch Baylor/K-State and Texas/Tech with TCU between and WV behind. 1-3 seem like they're the top, 4-6 in the middle, then Texas and 8-10 at the bottom.
1-3. OU, OSU, Baylor
4. K-State complete homer pick hoping S4ms saves us

I think ISU will beat KU this year, but only because it's in Ames. And I think it'll be close. If it was Lawrence, I'd have KU by 10+.
That said, ISU is the worst team in the conference.

Two things:
First, I expect us to lose to WVU. That D will shut us completely down, and we can't stop D2 teams on D.
Second, I believe that KU is a legit candidate for the Big 10. But, it's years off. It will hurt KSU fans more later, because KSU will be terrible at both football and basketball at that time.

i doubt they'll take ku. they didn't even want mizzou (who draws a lot more tv sets). i know they took NU, but that was and still is a headscratcher.

I don't buy KU as a legitimate big 10 candidate at all. They don't need or even care about KU's basketball and they bring absolutely nothing else to the table.

I think that the Big 10 is working to create a "balanced scorecard."
Each school they have grabbed has at least one great feature. Now, NU may (probably) prove to be a huge mistake.
KU is a great add for them, if they want to bolster basketball. That is the only reason to even consider KU. They bring nothing else.
If big 10 want to diversify across sports, KU is a great add.
-
Hey Bread, I'm in your neck of the woods this weekend, Carmi, Illinois to be exact.
Nice weather up here!
-
Nothing the big 10 has done to date makes me think they want to diversify across sports. They want access to more TV sets and good football in that order. Basketball doesn't register for them IMO.

I agree that they haven't seemed to value basketball thus far, but that is the ONLY thing KU can hope for...otherwise there is no reason to give KU your revenue.

There isn't a basketball school in the big 10 that wouldn't love to see KU turn into Memphis if the Big 12 crumbles. They'll never get an invite. Them separate, but becoming irrelevant is better for big 10 basketball programs than them added to the conference. They'll gladly be allowed to slowly die IMO.
