Title: if somebody bought this for you
Post by: Dr Rick Daris on August 27, 2013, 03:47:02 PM
with the agreement that it was all you could eat for an entire year, could you do it? would you do it? would you do it for free or would they have to pay you X amount to do it? i mean free food for an entire year doesn't sound too bad but what if you were six months in and were really just craving some t bell or something.  :dunno:

also, new question- if somebody bought that for you and then said that they would give you 20k if you went the whole year without eating something else but that if you did eat something else that you would have to give them 10k would you do it?

The avg American eats something like 4 spiders a year....while they are asleep....without even knowing about it.

no way am I going to price a spider at $10K.

Unless there are MRE spiders that would immediately move in with the MRE delivery and all other spiders would GTFO before the bet started.

Then....still no.

rick, what if MRE emailed you and was like boom we just added an all la hacienda 365 day MRE year supply of food deal.

would you do that for $20K?

Can I also take vitamin supplements?

yes. also change the rules to knowingly eat. like, eating spiders while sleeping would not count. purposefully getting hammered and black out eating would though.

Then I'd definitely do it, at least for the $20k/$10k option. Because I can still drink beer, right?

Also, slightly OT, but I'm guessing that like 10 people ate 4000 spiders or something to get that average.

what about for free? what if it was 10k/20k? where's the breaking point? wouldn't you be a scared little kid that you would break down some day and go crazy and rob a white castle for their burgers or something?  :ohno:

what if i drank a bunch of beer and ate the whole year's supply of MREs in like the first three months?  does the payout change?

also, somebody buy this and tell me if it's gross or not. i think it might be gross but i don't know for sure. thanks guys. if not gross, how weird would it be for me to buy a can and then just keep it at work on my desk and offer people bacon throughout the day? weird or no?

For free, I probably wouldn't do it, because my family definitely wouldn't be able to do it and I don't think our grocery bill would be impacted all that much. If it was just me on my own, I'd definitely do it for free.

well that's obviously part of the challenge. you'd have to pace yourself to ensure you still had food for the last week. come home plowed on a friday and go through 3 mres? guess someone is skipping a lot of lunches next week.

whoa! wait, wait, wait. it looks like i made a mistake. come back here tobias. so i guess that the rule is that you don't have to like pace yourself or anything but you DO have to eat nothing but those MRE things for a year. so if you go through the whole years worth in three months then you just get another year supply and keep right on chuggin.

i'm gonna get super fat off MREs and drink 20k worth of vitamin beer in a year with no outlay of my own.  wait, are there any nacho flavored ones?  if so, are they considered entrees or side dishes or what?  not much of a breakdown on the "contents" tab :don'tcare:

That "eating spiders in your sleep" thing is completely made up. I can't believe people still believe it.

1. I am a very heavy sleep and recall multiple times waking up because a bug was on my leg. Do you think a spider could make it across my face without waking me up?
2. Where did this number come from? Did they check people's stomach's every day when they woke up to see if a spider was in there? Did they video tape a bunch of people sleeping in their homes for months on end and go back and watch all the tapes to see how many spiders they swallowed throughout?
3. This started circulating in the early 90's, right when the internet was becoming a household item. Someone did a study to show that people believed anything they read on the internet. This was one of the facts they made up to prove that. Maybe I should have just started with this talking point.

It would be really rough.  I'd consider it for $50,000.

somewhere in the 20-30k range now, but the price would go up as i get older.  i wouldn't agree to a 10k penalty, though.

Guys, be on the look out.  I have heard that ppl are circulating posts challenging very well known and established facts just to prove that a certain percentage of bbs'ers will believe anything.

Just watch out.

You'd also have to factor in the social factor

"Hey babe, want to go out for MRE and a movie?"
"Hey its my birthday, want to come out to Splurky's with us?  No, sorry, i have an MRE calling my name"
"Hey the boss man is taking us all out to lunch, think they'll let me heat up my MRE there?"

this would definitely be the hardest part IMO. And I just thought of traveling for work. Maybe I'm out, fellas.
