Title: Making Mustard
Post by: jmlynch1 on August 20, 2013, 12:34:42 PM
Big mustard fan here, huge. I have been thinking about getting into making my own mustards. Seems pretty pud and not very labor intensive. Anyone done this?

Evidently I liked this mustard so much it ended up in the bottom of my suitcase after eating at the Wynn deli. Don't recall the actual crime.

You need to choose your mustard flour carefully when making mustard at home.

This mustard wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. It wasn't awful or anything, but it's just not that great.

I love mustard too!  :excited:

Let me know how it goes, i've wanted to myself...  start with a few small batches to get the heat level you want figured out (how long you head the mustard before adding the acid will affect the heat... and you can make it much hotter than what should be palatable if you aren't careful)

Glad to see he had some Braunschweiger in there. Great stuff.

Disappointed by the absence of beer. A fridge isn't complete without some brew. Maybe he has a separare beer cooler?   :dunno:

Got a few of these even though they look childish and terrible.  They are amazing.  Jalapeno Mustard is my favorite.

Hi everyone,
Despite my usually dependable follow through, I never actually got around to making any mustard, BUT(!), I wanted to revisit this thread with a new perspective...Ketchup/Catsup. It is rough ridin' disgusting. A few burger places around where I live have fancy weird catsups and they are still gross. As in, just as gross as regular ketchup. Is this condiment just a lost cause meant for the plebeian palates along the likes of ranch dressing and colby jack cheese? Probably. (Thanks to the B&G thread for reminding me how disgusting both ketchup and those who partake in its awfulness are.)

Lost cause, IMO. Used to be a huge ketchup/catsup fan. Used it on all kinds of food. Using it less and less now, if at all. Quit using it with fries long ago. In fact, I passed on it today on hot dogs.
