Owners of pre-eminent K-State bookstore buy The Jayhawk Bookstore
"Think of it like a marriage but with separate bank accounts," Steve Levin, general manager of Varney's and the corporate entity University Book Store Inc., said with a laugh. "That first day I got to the Lawrence store, I put on a beautiful blue shirt with a Jayhawk on it. But when I wore it back to the store in Manhattan, you would have thought I was a leper."
"The KU brand is more of a national brand with the basketball program," said Levin, who said college bookstores will need to rely more on apparel sales in the future as textbooks continue to migrate to digital formats.

I bet your thread gets more traffic than mine.

Hmmmm, I did not see another thread. I searched on "Varney" and everything.
-
Won't be long before The KU Mask is making promotional appearances there...

Lot of things have changed since you left, DLew. Known Squawk haven Varney's bought Ballard's then ran it into the ground and out of business. #boycottVarneys #squaks

Well, looks like it's prime time to open up a Kansas State book store in MHK. All you have to do is put a big sign out front saying you don't support squawks like those on-campus guys and you will be in good shape.

Yeah. Beems should see if there is any way to get access to his trust fund early because he needs to do something about this.

GTM is the place to be.

I only remember going to Varney's to try and sell my textbooks I bought off Amazon.

Dick's.
-
Coincidence that Varney's is rolling out this email campaign (#viral?) today?

Yes. Will be v. funny in about 5 years when the Kansas State University of Agriculture and Applied Science buys out KU for cents on the dollar and changes its name to KSU-East, AFH to Octagon-East, and Memorial Stadium to BSFS-East is razed to make room for a new rowing facility. At which point I guess JCCC just renames itself to Kansas University?
-
KU alumni and t-shirt fans alike in my office are up in arms about this. I think it's great.

Someone is going to have to incorporate something like this into a sign for the Dillonstm Sunflower Showdown
-
I knew the large majority of jayhawk fans were also major KSU football fans so this is really no surprise. I assume there will be a KSU section at the bookstore so ku students can get a purple shirt on their way to Manhattan for a cats game.
-
"The Jayhawk Bookstore. Come on in and see us for all of your textbook, school and office supplies, as well as the latest in officially licensed KU apparel. The Jayhawk Bookstore, let us take your money, which we will use to enhance and enrich the local culture and economy of Manhattan, home of your state's flagship university."
