I go straight to the CVS assorted fruit flavored antacid and eat 4. If there's more heartburn, just eat another!

Got any ailments and creative home remedies? Well welcome to the home remedies and heartburn master thread.

Wow I'm glad to have this thread. I was wondering, anyone got any advice for an at home remedy for a running nose?
-
I have never had heartburn, and I hope I never do. It sounds awful not being able to eat food because it might be too spicy for your heartburn.

I'll give it a try!
What does heartburn feel like, I don't know if I've ever had it.
For me it feels like throw up stuck in my esophagus region. Usually a sign I didn't enjoy responsibly with my crushed red pepper on my spaghetti and meat sauce.

A nice remedy for the hiccups is to take a sip of vinegar. Pickle juice doesn't work as well, but it will usually do the trick and it isn't as disgusting as vinegar.
-
If you have an itchy bug bite, you can burn it off. A painful burn is sometimes preferable to an itchy bite, but not always.
-
Oh, ok. I get that with pizza, but I love pizza so oh well.
Pizza also makes me super thirsty the next day. :dunno:

This sounds like you're pranking us. I'm going to need on the ground confirmation of this before I go vinegar guzzling next time I hiccup.

If you have a bad cold, drink copious amounts of whiskey. You just won't care about your cough and runny nose any more after 3-4 shots, and everything you drink past that is just bonus.
Also, make sure you drink lots of water.

If you are feeling dehydrated, just pound 3 tall glasses of water. You will be feeling right as rain in less than an hour.

Do you know what a home remedy is?

I've never had heartburn, but I have been told that if you sprinkle some ginger on your pizza, it will counteract your stomach acid and keep you neutral.
-
Gross.
-
if you ever get a plantar wart on your foot from the disgusting locker room floor (:barf:) you can fix it by putting duct tape on it for basically forever.
I'm not sure if the true medicine was the duct tape or my immune system but it is totally healed now and i only ruined like 12 pairs of socks with duct tape goop.
-
Gross.
Yeah. It's probably better to just avoid the pizza altogether.

Just any old ginger? :fatty:

I've never tried it, but ginger is supposed to be a remedy for heartburn, raw or cooked. You can also sprinkle some into a glass of tea. If you get too much, it supposedly makes things worse, though.
-
All of these problems can be cured (except puni's that's effing cool duct tape what can't it fix?) by not being a fp.

I can confirm that this works. It takes a very long time, though. Warts are disgusting.
-
Ginger is also good for sea sickness.

I would just like to see you try to find a way to cure dehydration without water. Just try.
-
Also, before CK dropped 7 TD's on WVU, it's rumored he enjoyed a nice gingerale.

I really think you might be on to something with this water stuff, NK.
-
If you have a sore throat, you can gargle warm salt water and then you will feel much better. I like to eat a Popsicle after I'm through with the salt water to get rid of the nasty flavor, but it isn't really necessary I guess.

I have an ex whose grandma recommended vinegar as a home rememdy for numerous ailments including the ones mentioned above.
Spoiler alert, vinegar doesn't do crap for anything. I think the point of splashing vinegar on yourself is to make people avoid the stench while your body naturally recovers from whatever.
-
Vinegar really does help with the hiccups. I use it all the time. You have to swallow it, though. Splashing it on yourself does absolutely nothing.
-
does vinegar do bad stuff to your insides? i like the taste of a sip of it (white & red wine, not really the apple cider stuff)
-

Lol yeah, guess I should have typed splashing or ingesting.........

I imagine just chugging a whole lot of it wouldn't be very good for you, but I don't think a sip or two every now and then would have any significant effect.

Well, I have attempted curing the hiccups with vinegar (pickle juice if available) about 50 times now and have been successful 49 times. Every time it has worked, relief has been immediate without a single hiccup following. The one time it didn't work, the hiccups were much worse than they were before drinking the vinegar, though.
-
ALWAYS make sure that you pour your own vinegar, though. Better safe than sorry.

Oh congrats, Nuts Kicked. I have tried both vinegar and pickle juice for hiccups and neither one works for me. Just have to suffer through them :frown:

Damn, that sucks. I have a friend who cures them by eating a spoonful of Nestle chocolate milk chowder (dry). You might give that a try the next time you get them and let us know if that works.

Does it make your clothes stink?
-
You're supposed to run a vinegar solution through those front-load washers every once in a while to keep them from stinking.

Also to clean kurieg (?) coffee makers.

I save pickle juice to drink it when I have heartburn, and I think it works.
Also, when I have heartburn it feels like someone is stabbing me through the chest with a huge knife which is also sticking out my back.
-
Hiccups are the easiest thing to cure, I haven't hiccuped more than once in a row since the age of 13. All you have to do is try to hiccup, kind of like you are super constipated and imagine trying to pop an air bubble in your diaphragm.
-
For heartburn:
when i worked at bluestem i would always drink an almafi to cure my heartburn. an almafi is a half italian/half french soda. you can replicate at home by mixing milk/cream and soda water. works every time. milk does an ok job on its own if that's all you've got on hand.
-
Heartburn is an excess of acid. Milk is slightly acidic. You need some thing basic (base, not acid) to neutralize. That is why baking soda works. I assume vinegar is on the base side of the scale as well.
