Title: Rant - "Big Bowl" - what defines as such?
Post by: Ich.Gewinne on August 06, 2013, 10:12:02 PM
A bowl that was a selected, 'quality' bowl, to appear before a national audience by either the Bowl Coalition, Bowl Alliance, and/or, with respect to the times, BCS.
If we are using the most fluid selection, of which we would have to if Kansas wants to feel special as their 47, 68, and 75 bowls were before the 'quality' selection committees and they wouldn't count for much - sucks to suck, we'd pick the big bowls of the past and the (as its more selective now, with an immensely biased voting panel) BCS  big bowls now.

Following bowls were, have/had, and are selective with their choices and fit the criteria (with their times) as a big bowl:
Hancock, Gator, Blockbuster, Cotton (YUP), Sun, Fiesta, Orange, Sugar, and the Rose bowl. (Am I missing one?? Might be, oh well).

Kansas :
Orange Bowl 1947 (L)
Orange Bowl 1968 (L)
Sun Bowl 1975 (L)
Orange Bowl 2007 (W)
______________________
1-3 Total Big Bowls Record
1-0 BCS Record
0-3 Pre-BC/BA Big Bowl Record
4 Total appearances in Big Bowls.

You take away that time period before the BC/BA, Kansas is trash with just one BCS Win

Kansas State :
Cotton Bowl 1997 (L)
Fiesta Bowl 1997 (W)
Cotton Bowl 2001 (W)
Fiesta Bowl 2004 (L)
Cotton Bowl 2012 (L)
Fiesta Bowl 2013 (L)
______________________
2-4 Total Big Bowls Record
0-2 BCS Record (Eff cheatin Oregon)
1-0 BA Record (or BC, whatever idc)
0-0 Pre BC/BA Big Bowl Record
6 Total Appearances in Big Bowls.

BC/BA/BCS all count, enjoy squawk dorks. If there a point of interest I am wrong about (dates, major bowls) theenn have at it.

back to my drink.

bbs pro-tip: you should try to avoid spending time dissecting phog.net strawman talking points that only idiots on phog.net truly believe.  because no matter what you do, you can't offer them the intelligence to see past their own dumbassery.

'Clams speaks the undeniable and solid truth on this.

Looks like both schools in the state of Kansas suck balls in "big bowl" games.  Hope our next coach can win on the big stage.

Great tip 'clams.

Just a couple of more.  To the rare KU football fan:

-It's still 2007

-They haven't lost 22 straight conference games

-LHC Bill Snyder doesn't count.

-25 years is not a long period of time.

-25 years is not a long period of time.

fortunately it's just long enough for them to forget when both basketball programs were on equal footing

FYI, the Sun Bowl has never been anything but a third tier bowl.

fact. only had to include it because of the BA/BC criteria, if not then cotton bowl wouldnt have been mixed in as well (even tho cotton is a legit big bowl game)
