Title: Honeymoon Loacale Advice
Post by: FunruhCat76 on August 01, 2013, 11:30:31 PM
Hey folks, so I'm engaged and am fixin' to get married next spring.  I've been doing a lot of research on cool honeymoon spots but it's been tough because every website seems biased towards different places.

I figured that y'all might have a few ideas based on personal experiences.  We're looking in the Caribbean mainly but are open to other stuff.  I'm trying to budget between 3k -5k, I think that would be enough for a one week trip.  All inclusive places are really interesting to me.  I like the idea of not having to worry about shizz once we get there.

Desire seems legit...I'll need to do some toning before I head there.  Shock the glutes a tid bit

All inclusive resorts are stupid. They're the same on every island.

Rent a house/villa and a badass car or a driver and live.

I'd recommend St. Lucia, St. Marteen, or Barbados - all doable for under 5K.

http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/caribbean/st-lucia (http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/caribbean/st-lucia)

VRBO is best place to find homes/villas. Car rentals per island take some research, but Tripadvisor is the best site for that kind of stuff.

check out Costa Careyes, Mexico.  i went a few years ago.  very elite. i suggest opening up those purse strings (doesn't the bride have to pay for it  so who cares).

the article is dated but the place is great (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/24/travel/24next.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0)

All inclusives are great if you want to get completely wasted on the beach all day 'er' day of the vacation.  Otherwise, meh.

For these types of vacations, my only objective is to not think about work, lay on the beach with a book or magazine, eat, drink and spend time with my wife.  I admit I'm pretty lame, but I think an all inclusive is the most hassle-free way to do this as long as you get one with good food, premium booze, and no kids allowed.

You may need to up the budget a little if you want to stay more than a couple days, but you may find something. Just be sure to upgrade your room to something decent.

Have fun.

If this is the actual need, who cares where it is.  Just go to the cheapest beach and enjoy the mediocre food and other white ppl too scared to leave the resort.

Outer Banks is a nice spot.   Particularly if you get a house right on the beach.

There's a an area on the Northern Outer Banks near the Virginia Border that you can only access via boat, or via four wheel drive on the beach from Corolla/Duck.   But it has multiple beautiful houses to rent, and the wild horses will walk by you while you're roaming the beaches.

Bald Head Island, NC is another place to consider.   Only accessible by Ferry.   But you can ride the Ferry across and check out Southport or get touristie and go to Myrtle Beach.

Yeah, it would be horrible for a honeymoon. Not bad for a huge family gathering, though.

we did Tahiti (the island of Moorea to be specific) because we wanted a relaxing beach trip and I wanted to to do something different.  It obviously a much longer flight(I should of bucked up for 1st class) but we had done the Caribbean & Hawaii before and I really wanted to stay in an over water bungalow they really only do in the South Pacific.

I guess it's a trade off. If you're honeymooning for fine dining and culture on 3-5k, I'm not sure what the options would be. Possibly Charleston or New Orleans if you have your airfare taken care of. Could you do San Francisco/wine country for a grand a day?  I don't think you could do New York in a manner that is worth doing or for longer than 2 days.

For me, the all inclusive covered the primary reason for the vacation (I agree that one beach was as good as another if there is sufficient privacy) and the food was good enough that the hassle-free aspect was worth it.

ETA: I have no idea what the ethnicity/nationality was of anyone else there because I didn't care.

What do you like to do?   If you don't like being on the beach, all forms of surfing, boats/jet ski's, or fishing than you probably shouldn't go to the Outer Banks.
