K. I don't think elephants will be dumb enough to post about this, it's just my former jackass roommate that posts every political thought that comes to mind and clogs up my feed. He's a super douch about stuff. He also got fired from chipotle, failed at 2nd city in Chicago, got fired from oil changing, hates corporate ppl, called me a loser for working for corporate, thinks Obama is the savior, and now wants to move out to LA to be an actor when he looks like a beaver. Woo, glad I finally got this off my chest after all these years.

 for the last 24 hours. It's rare we get two great happenings from the government in that time span anymore.
Also: Good Guy SCOTUS. Does ruling early in the day so Daily Show and Colbert Report can cover it

Filibuster in Texas. Not the federal government, but at this point beggars can't be choosers.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Part of it was protesters and not government though.

"The federal statute is invalid, for no legitimate purpose overcomes the purpose and effect to disparage and injure those whom the State, by its marriage laws, sought to protect in personhood and dignity. By seeking to displace this protection and treating those persons as living in marriages less respected than others."

RT @GovMikeHuckabee My thoughts on the SCOTUS ruling that determined that same sex marriage is okay:"Jesus wept."
RT @GovMikeHuckabee 5 people in robes said they are bigger than the voters of CA and Congress combined. And bigger than God.May He forgive us all.
I'm not 100% sure Governor and former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee knows how the United States works.

So basically, Mike Huckabee thinks Jesus doesn't have any more important crap to worry about than gay sex

Going to start using this in my life.
My thoughts on my girlfriend leaving her unfolded clothes in the dryer when I just pulled my wet clothes out of the washer: Jesus Wept.

I think I have a new favorite quote from one of my coworkers about this to me.
Unruly - "Hey man did you hear DOMA and prop 8 are dead!"
Coworker - "That is stupid. You don't put two female connectors together do you? I didn't think so."
Unruly - "Yeah, you're right, but these are people and not connectors we are talking about here."
Coworker - "Whatever man, God created a man and a woman in an image of himself and it is natural."
Unruly - "So God created these two different beings off of himself as one being?"
Coworker - "Yeah it is natural. He really did it after the trinity."
Unruly - "So God would be ok with me banging a ghost? Or how about a father banging a son? Wait, I still think that is legal in this state."
Coworker - " :dubious: walks away"
Just remember kids.
You wouldn't put two female connectors together, so that applies to humans as well.

Why does it matter how the govt views marriage if the govt doesn't require churches to view it a certain way?

Yeah but that is a separate issue or battle. I think the only "offense" or claim could be a tax dollar thing (i. e. "I don't want my tax dollars supporting something against my religious beliefs".)
-
Like, none of my conservative friends said ANYTHING about this ruling, which I think is GREAT. I mean, there weren't even the brand spanking new opponents to the government being involved in marriage at all, such as our friend dax.

Tax dollars would have to be used to procees marriage licenses. I'm trying to find an argument that could be used.
-
there are a ton of tax breaks and incentives for marriage and reproduction. there are also a lot of benefits provided to the spouses of employees. homosexuals will now be able access those tax breaks that are federal. the spouses of homosexual federal employees will now be provided with those benefits. sort of the same, but slightly different - benefits to military spouses.
that's how.

There is no logical argument against allowing homosexuals to get married so if you're trying to rationalize their arguments, you will be unsuccessful.

I am just wondering who has been wronged. The only arguments I have heard surround the definition of "marriage".

This ruling really shouldn't be controversial at all.

Yeah, I haven't seen any neg comments about this either, but usually any conservative posts I see on FB revolve around gun shootin'
-
This ruling really shouldn't be controversial at all.
Yeah, in reality it really isn't. It's just that this is all about "my team vs your team" politically and has been for quite a while now and one team just was given something they wanted so the other team is showing obligatory butthurt.
-
so this means that God Ok'd gay marriage for the god gives us rights folks?

heard on the radio some smart lawyery professors talking about how they expect that many of the federal benefits, including the tax benefits, will only be extended to homosexual couples living in states that allow homosexual marriage, not to everyone. said they could decide to extend to all, but that it would be consistent with past policy to only extend to residents of those states, and that was what they expected.
i was/am dumbfounded. i just assumed it would apply to everyone that got legally married, not just the residents of the favored 13 states. makes the court's decision to duck the california case look even worse.

I read that different government agencies have different policies. Some go by the rule of the state you live in - if gay marriage is legal there then they accept gay married people living there. Others go by the state you were married in - if a gay couple was married in a legal state but live in a state that doesn't have gay marriage, you can still get benefits from those particular agencies.

It makes sense from a legal perspective, but not really from a good policy standpoint IMO. There are some states that currently recognize same sex marriage as being legal and equal with different sex marriages. It makes sense that those states would be required to give benefits to same sex couples because to not do so would be violating the equal rights of the legally married same sex couple.
Now in states that do not recognize same sex marriage there is currently not an equal footing between different sex married couples and same sex couples since those same sex couples can't be married. Therefore the courts can differentiate between the two couples and say giving federal benefits to the married couple does not violate the same sex couple's rights since they are not married.
Essentially I think the court was not ready to make a widespread ruling regarding same sex marriage because so many states are using the legislative process to legalize same sex marriage and the SCOTUS has been hesitant to make widespread rulings, particularly on social issues, until they deem the legislative process has reached a tipping point on the issue.

I checked, and god loves his gay children.
Unfortunately science hates the gays, and has rendered their reproductive organs useless.
