Title: internships.
Post by: 3maw on May 22, 2013, 05:13:42 PM
guys, i'm doing this thing called interning for a company in iowa. when i got here i was all  :ksu: , then I found out I'm living with a guy from wisconsin and illinois,  :shakesfist: , then I saw some EMAWs around my place of employment wearing super elite (prob gtm) KSU cat polos, and got all  :ksu: again. so far i'm  :bill: .

Please describe your current/past summer internships in the same fashion.

I'd watch that guy that is both from Wisconsin and Illinois.  One or both of those is probably a lie.  Ask him if he knows me.  If he doesn't then he is either: (A) not from Illinois (B) a pud (C) both of those things (D) a familiar man rapist.

Bet it feels good knowing that you are better looking, better smelling and will become more successful and wealthy than your losery roommate.

My first internship was at Westar, it was ok, just not for me (sat next to a guy that should belong in the Birther Pit, and the youngest person in my particular office that wasn't me was 8 years older than me, so good for experience, not good to relate to, and the work was living in an excel spreadsheet). Then I got an internship at the place I now work at and did that for two summers, it just was way better fit for everything. Internships are really good at feeling out what you want to do without a lot of commitment, so enjoy it and feel free to maybe go to a few other places. Also, it was nice to go into my last semester with a job offer and not having to worry about that and  all semester.

I used to get to show the intern the ropes and find stuff for them to do. we had this stud intern named charles that I was pretty much work BFF with for a year. the life of an intern is pretty great from my limited experience.

Had a internship selling ad's in manhattan for zoi greek directoy(old greek telephone directory), shitty gig but it was worth it for the trip out to LA for training.

150 college kids from all over the country partying their face off for 4 days. They put us up on pepperdines campus which is amazingly ELITE, could see the ocean from my window. You would do some training during the day and then each night they would load us up in bus's and take us somewhere to get hammered for 4 hours, Santa Monica one night and Malibu the other night.

Fell in love with a filly from Iowa during the trip and we had a nice little summer loving fling that involved some trips to Iowa City.

Also shotgunned a beer standing in the middle of the Pacific Coast Highway with a couple of bros from TCU and Auburn, just to say that we've done it.

This morning, my colleagues and I, along with some constituents, were making our way over to the Capitol complex aboard the Senate subway, when lo and behold, we spotted an intern, her grey badge visible, snapping photos of herself aboard the train car in front.  Even amongst our audible laughs, the intern continue snapping away, the iPhone flash illuminating her and her badge as she continued striking various poses, oblivious to the silliness of blog-worthy actions.

I agree with daris.  That sounds like a miserable way to spend a summer in college.  College summers actually spent at college are just the best in my experience.  Like a magical semi-ghost town full of parties and good times.  Such a great vibe.

interships...go to a new city and work at place with 10-20 other interns looking to have a good time.  Drink, make new friends, and have a good time while making $20+ per hour.  After 10 weeks of drinking and meeting new people, come back to Manhattan with an extra $4,000-$5,000 in your pocket so you can maximize your fun during the school year while all but guaranteeing yourself a :kstategrad: job when you graduate.

You failed to mention most of the "new people" you get to meet are middle-aged ass faces beaten down by life.  Yeeeah!  Let those good MF'n times roll!!  woot

I don't think I've ever talked to anyone who did an internship where there were less than 7-8 other interns.  But I guess your right, making $20+ an hour in a stress free job while going out every night and stockpiling money so you don't have to work during the school year does sound like it sucks.

nobody who spends multiple summers in mhk wishes they would've ever done anything different. not one. it's seriously 100% and will be forever. what won't happen for any of us ever is being 87 yrs old and finding out that we have terminal cancer and then going "damn. i wish i would've worked for some random company when i was 21 instead of hanging out with other summercats and catettes in aggieville for entire summers having the most amazing times of my entire life". won't happen. sorry intern guys. god bless you guys for being you though. really mean that.

I always thought of an internship as something you may eventually do for a career.

I guess it is all about intent and maybe difficulty in getting into a field.  I mean no one interns as a ditch digger or garbage man.

On my way into the CVC, I see two girls -- intern badges clearly present -- heading towards the house tunnel.  As they get closer, I hear them loudly singing an old Hanson (that 90s boy band) song: "MMMBop...bidi dapa doo wop, Doo bi dapa doo bob, Bidi dapa doo, yeah, yeah." They were even harmonizing!

I smirked, and figured I had seen the last of them. Boy was I wrong.

On my way back, I walked down the tunnel towards Longworth, surprised to see the girls skipping, frolicking, and laughing loudly as they headed towards the Capitol.

Girls, leave the singing to Hanson--if they still can sing.  Members of Congress who walk down that hallway surely do not want to hear your harmonization.
