Title: Corporate World (alert IT guru's)
Post by: 420seriouscat69 on May 16, 2013, 08:21:54 AM
A company credit card, a laptop, 2 monitors, and an iPhone 5 that they say I can use for personal? They're rough ridin' with me right you guys? I feel like this is all a trick to see if I'll jump on youjizz.com. anyways, should I drop my personal cellphone contract and just transfer everything over to my iPhone or will they see me sexting my fillies on that thing? TIA

You'll want to keep your personal phone.

This, have a buddy with that setup and at first he decided to use his company phone for everything. Then his co-worker got fired for some questionable pictures/text's done on the company phone, buddy went and got a personal phone right after that.

I don't trust my friends, plus the girl I'm seeing likes to send "fun texts". Also, I have a buddy who sends me pics of girls like a dbag, but he does it cause he knows it annoys me (yeah, I'm actually not creepy IRL).

Yeah, it works there. Our other offices are in UK, Australia, Canada, and Hong Kong. I've never been to a international country. I'm a little nervous about flying over the ocean, crashing, and dying.

Get a separate iPhone!!  And...  Whatever you do don't let them merge files via the iCloud!!

Keep personal 110% separate from biz for your own protection.

Thank me later.

I use for my company phone for everything and have never had any issues.  They won't care about what you do with the phone unless they are looking for a reason to fire you.  If they are looking for a reason to fire you then they will find one regardless of your phone habits.  My prediction is within a year you'll get tired of dealing with two different phones and go to one.

fanning, many people can/do the "one phone" thing successfully but i don't think you'd be part of that group.  i just keep my phone under my name and let the company reimburse me (still not perfect but better than having no control, in which case i'd keep two phones).  doesn't work everywhere obviously.

i would clean up your internet usage (mainly bbsing) before i would worry about what is being sent from your work phone. if a company is going to be upset about something it would first be the fact that you use their computer to bbs while youre at work. thats billable time going to waste*... the phone stuff, as long as it isnt super inappropriate, at least isnt on works time. as someone mentioned earlier, most of the time if they are going through your phone for inappropriate things, youve already been fired...

*by waste i mean good use, of course

Can we just make a "help wackycat with his job" thread and be done with it, you know that's what this thread is going to turn into. like he can post his super complicated excel and word questions here and then hamburglar can figure them out for him. Cofd can basically just do his job for him (you two can work out some sort of fee). Then Saul can fix all his computer problems. Grats wacky, I just got you a promotion

here's something we can decide for fanning:

should he over-achieve for the first few months to get noticed as a go-getter and a good hire?  or should he under-achieve/do the bare minimum so that they don't expect him to be an over-achiever forever?

i say go bare minimum, fanning.  don't be a hero.

Yea Fanning...don't be that guy.  Just have your minimum 15 pieces of flare and put in your grind.  Then, after 6 months of low-key bare minimum quality work...unleash hell.  This technique can actually improve your 1 year eval which will get you a hella  :kstategrad: raise.

It's very state of the art. Open cubes, rooms to make calls that are glass windows, but by the flip of a switch, it clouds up. There are several work areas to get away from your desk to stay loose. There's a gaming room: Xbox w/ big screen, pool table, etc. I'm staying away from that room, it's gotta be a trick. I'm on the 11th floor downtown and my office overlooks the jones pool, PNL, and the sprint center. We have a full stocked bar when you walk in. :elite:

Agreed.  This is important information.  Do you share a cube or are you flying solo?  I can always spot a former frat member in the office as well.  This is a good guy to get to know.  Keep him at a distance, but he'll serve as your gateway to eventually piss pound peeps with your awesomeness.

Nice.  Sounds like a sweet set-up.  Just don't send dick pics on your corporate phone and you should be golden.  If you spot any drug addicts, let me know.  I charge 250 an hour and will hook you up with a 10% per hour finder's fee (kidding...maybe).

In all honesty it sounds like a decent work environment for you outside of the "Ummm, wtf" chick.

as far as overachieving at first, don't.  Take the time to get your understanding, then once you know your stuff adequately, do a hard 3-6 months of putting in work. Time it so that you are able to really accomplish a bunch in that 3-6 months.  Also, by the time you should begin your period of overachieving, you should have a good understanding of the product and what others' prized accts are.  Then target the crap out of that one chicks high end stuff.  You should be able to end her in that amt of time and make a good rep for yourself.

Great! I just got done taking a nap under my desk, so it's right on schedule. Also, Manager took me to lunch today. Super cool guy. He said this: "Look, I'm gonna be honest with you. Our trainer left for another position last week and we really won't have anything set up for you for another 7-10 days. So what I'm telling you is, just chill till then. Try and read up on the company and "look busy" in front of the other reps. So what I'm really saying is, relax till then".

Haven't paid for my own cell phone or truck in 14 years.  #humblebrag

in fact, I've never had a personal cell phone.

     Nothing better than driving past a gas station where gas is 63 cents higher than 2 weeks ago and not giving a eff.

TIA

LOL my lap top at work shot craps about a week ago.  They gave me this crappy loaner until they could get my new one ordered and set up.  It doesn't fit my docking station which so I've had to use it undocked for a full week now.  It's amazing how unproductive I've been, it's like I can't get crap done anymore with just one moniter.  Maybe this should go in the first world problems thread.

There are 2 gas stations within a couple of blocks from my house, and they flip-flop on being the cheapest in town.  15-20 cents cheaper each time.  so i pay attention to those 2 particular places so that i fill up at the cheaper of the two each time.  don't feel sorry for me, i enjoy it.
