Title: Willie Nelson
Post by: bones129 on May 03, 2013, 12:03:11 AM
Willie just turned 80 and he's still going strong. He's had his problems (taxes, etc.) but is he good at what he does or what? Discuss.

Talk about unexpected longevity.  He seems to be holding up fairly well, considering he's no Jay The Juice Man.

I like this thread, because it isn't 10+ pages.

I don't particularly care for his voice/delivery on his old stuff but his voice is fantastic now.

"You were always on my mind" is a great song.  I once went to a concert with Willie and Bob Dylan.  I went because I am a huge Dylan fan, but I ended up liking Willie's 1/2 of the concert better.

I saw Dylan in concert and he was just okay. Santana opened for him and he was awesome.

I enjoy Willie Nelson.

When I was alive, we were buds.

He helped me on the vocals of Luckenbach, Texas and after I left this earth, he did Good Ol' Boys for the Dukes of Hazzard movie.

That dude is still very good at guitar. I mean his fingers have gotta be pretty arthritic at ago 80, right? Still v. impressive. Hard to sing along to, though, because he just sorta mixes it up and ad libs a different melody line every time. But man. What a cool looking d00d. And he was great in Half Baked too, obviously.

A friend of mine has been involved with Willie recording stuff in Memphis a couple of times. He smoke weed all day. Like, aaaallll day. Wake and bake, keeps a joint lit the rest of the day. Plays and records just fine throughout the process. But every day around 5pm he'd as for a glass of wine. About halfway through said glass he would be too messed up to play guitar or sing anymore. Basically just would pass out right about then. Funny guy.
