Title: Gamblers Anonymous
Post by: EllRobersonisInnocent on April 11, 2013, 10:59:14 PM
Hi, I'm ERII and I'm a gambling addict

Currently on a nice little run from the NCAA tourny till now with my online book and I'm planning on destroying the NBA playoffs. Any of you brave souls bet baseball?

I suck at betting sports. I think I've maybe won one sports bet, ever.

Craps is my favorite casino game, and I play roulette and blackjack when craps isn't going well. Can't get into slot machines.

No. Pete Rose did, however. You might try calling him.

I bet baseball.  It really is not too bad as long as you are willing to stick out the marathon.  Just bet pitching matchups and you will win the majority of the time.  Have to be willing to play the favorites in baseball to consistently win though.  Hurts the payout for any particular bet, but in the long run it pays off.

A few seasons ago I bet against the Royals every game for $10 against the 1.5 run spread. Think I ended up winning like $150 or something...

Should probably go in the Shame Yourself thread  :frown:

If you want to do it, I would wait until about the second week of May.  By then you will have a better feel for what teams are and which pitchers are actually going to have good years.  You will also have enough of a sample size to be able to effectively use pitching stats when making your bets.

I am a roulette and backarat man myself.

never played baccarat.  roulette is fun though, just mindless entertainment and pure luck.

also I should correct my earlier statement because I do like the slot machines in downtown vegas at mermaids.  you can sit there with $5 in nickels and get as many free drinks as you want and their wait service is amazing.  last time I was there I got plastered and won like $2 on the slot machine.  my only cost was tips so it was like 11 bucks or something.

roulette is the best completely blasted game imo. my bros and I spend our entire time at the roulette table explaining to other players our intricate system and what the system says to play in each instance (only black or red).

very interesting. so basically, you are saying that if i wait until the second week of may, i'll have a great feel for the teams and the pitchers and who will do good or bad - and, in turn, this will give me an added edge because the sportsbooks and the entire betting marketplace will be completely oblivious to all this new information, and none of this new info will be factored into the lines?

The best is when you are trying to learn the game and have no idea what is going on but you are making money on just about every roll, so you just go with it.

I generally put some money on 6 and 8 and then take it off when I hit one of them. I've only played like 4 times, though, so I'm sure others have a better strategy than me.

Why take it off? You just paid for keeping it there and made a little bit. I can understand not pressing it but taking it off doesn't make sense. If you put the money out there to start just leave it there.

craps is by far the best game in the casino.  but roulette is better to play when you're blackout drunk because there's less chance of losing all of your money and ruining your buzz.

You lose nearly all of your earnings if you crap out. Taking it off ensures that you keep your earnings, and then if the roller doesn't crap out, getting paid on the pass line is just icing on the cake. Like I said, I haven't played much and my strategy probably needs some work.

pass line + odds always, usually 6/8 also unless the point is on one of them.  then if the shooter gets hot I make come bets to get odds on the other numbers as well.  if the point is on 6 or 8 I usually put a couple bucks on the hard ways, usually for myself and the dealers.  sucker bet but I do it anyway because I like to yell out "2 way hard 6!" and throw money to the middle of the table.

Well, yeah, if they crap out you lose lol but you've gotta bet money to make money. If you put odds on and then take them off when it hits more than likely you'll just slowly lose your money unless you are clearing points left and right. The odds in the middle are even money with the house. That's where you make up the gap between you and the house, you should bet it.
