Hobby sport couldn't be more appropriate:
Baylor's associate athletic director of communications, David Kaye, said the school lost money on travel costs alone when accounting for the school's trip to the Elite Eight last year.
Kentucky was given a total travel stipend of $209,000 in its run to the national title last season. But with a bigger travel party and paying for tickets, the school spent "about twice that," senior associate athletic director Jason Schlafer said.
A source close to the George Mason athletic department told ESPN.com that the school lost hundreds of thousands of dollars that were not reimbursed during its 2006 run to the Final Four. One of the culprits: The school still had to pay for hotel rooms even though it played its Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games in Washington D.C.
This week, FGCU sent out an email to its fans asking them to donate $16, $160 or $1,600 to athletic department in recognition of the team's run to the Sweet 16.

i am a basketball fan who went to ku 96-2000 and has been rooting for ku since I was in 3rd grade.
I don't really care about other sports. I enjoy going to a football game once a year...maybe twice. it would be nice to be competitive in that sport but i'm never going to watch that sport over a preseason bball game for instance.
Some of us ARE fans of both programs...some are also clearly fans of the basketball program only. Most of these people most likely never set foot in a KU classroom.

I grew up in KC. football was not all that popular when I was in 7th grade through high school. Basketball was huge (High School to NBA). I never even watched a college football game on TV or in person until I was at KU. So i'm lesser a fan because I didn't grow up around the sport of football? That is like saying you need to be a fan of KU's hockey team or you aren't a real KU fan...or Tennis...or chess. football is just another sport, not everyone is required to care.
I thought of football as a sport for fat kids and people who weren't athletic enough to play basketball growing up. dead serious.

i don't think there are many people throwing it under the bus. in fact i think it's the opposite and would say that most (at least 90%)cat fans would put bball ahead of baseball as the #2 sport. this board obviously skews a little heavier towards baseball though, but it's also filled with people that are a little younger than your average cats fan. still a pretty solid #2.
