Will be in Vegas for the game Friday. Will anyone else be there?
Where do you think the best place to watch the game is?
-
I'll be there.
-
I'll be there.
:excited:
-
Best place to watch is the Hoops and Hops event at Cosmo. I have a soft spot for Todd English pub for non casino watching.
-
Just got back from Vegas today and would say I hate MGM (too small) and Planet Hollywood (book closes at about 8pm PT). Was impressed with Mandalay Bay though

Sports books are fun but if they don't have the audio of the game you want it is less fun. I watched KSU vs Tech and then KU vs. ISU at the Planet Hollywood sports book. I know Vegas is hyping the NCAA tournament in a very big way. I had heard more than once that Mandalay Bay has the best sports book.

Mandalay has the best sports book and a good poker room. I would not want to watch a KSU tourney game at a sports book.

Yeah my K-State game watching options in Vegas if I had a choice would be either alone in my room or an alumni watch party if I could find one. I'm sure we will be on TruTV again so in the room will be out.

You could help KKK, dunno though, that might be a stretch to ask though. Snark is like way easier.
-
Love the help, guys. Probably going to be a millionaire when I come back.

if you are willing to pay a fee, then there are casinos all over town that will host a good MM watch party. steve dave mentioned one of them (i didn't go last year because it took me too long to register), but there are dozens. here are some of them:
http://www.vegaschatter.com/story/2013/2/14/133253/571/vegas-travel/VegasChatter's+Guide+To+March+Madness+Parties
the LVH theater is a great place to watch and is also free. but as you might expect, it will fill up extremely fast, so would need to get there extremely early and probably even wait in line for a few hours. if you plan to watch at a book, the further away you are from the strip, the later you can show up to get a seat. good off strip options include South Point (they'll open up second floor ballroom), Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock. Sunset is also a decent book with adequate seating space.
if you plan to watch at a sportsbook, avoid all cantor books - located at palazzo, venetian, The M, cosmopolitan, palms and tropicana. you have a 5% chance of finding a seat and a 0% chance of getting a free drink.
other books to avoid:
-caesars (awful TVs; can't see unless super close)
-MGM/Mirage (currently remodeling; not sure if it will be completed, but it wasn't close to done the other day)
-bellagio (overrated book as it is, no longer gives away free drinks)

So, if you had 10 EMAWs that wanted to PAK it for the Cats game what would you do?

The Vegas cat group gets together at a BWW off strip
-
Yeah so there's like 20 of us.
-
Yeah so there's like 20 of us.
pony up the money. it's your only hope with that many people. a sportsbook is out of the question unless you are betting hundreds of thousands of dollars and get a roped off area. do this:
http://www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/experience/event-calendar/event-details/HoopsandHops_03-21-2013.aspx
there's a betting area set up right there and they have the audio and every game on a huge screen with tons of smaller screens all over.
as Rake noted most of the casinos will have similar events to this.
-
planet hollywood's sports book sucks. their casino sucks. everything about that place sucks.
-
For those going to Vegas, try not to get an STD from Kelly.

Thanks for the help, SD. I'm all for ponying up the cash but with such a large group that could be pretty tough to do up front. Also Cosmo is sold out on Friday.
Any other ideas? Shutup, clams.

I am an elite Vegas local so I'll fill you guys in on some super secrets.
1) this makes no sense but the effing Stratosphere rules. Seriously, they lock down their theatre, slap it full of remote betting, bj tables and 8 massive projector screens. Every game is on two screens. It's epic. Just don't walk out the back door and get lost in neighborhood behind it.... Yikes.
2) Aria A city center. Great book in general. Huge TVs everywhere. Spend a $100 and drink for free the rest of the day. Boom!
3) local 'sinos - the south point has a great longe and average book. Good watch site. Red rock is also a non terrible place.
-
Aria doesn't give free drinks like the used to. At least they don't during the NCAA tourny. Also, would be no chance to get an area that 20 guys would fit into. Very small book (though I like it).
-
Think I'm going to be a dick and just find a few guys who want to go big and fork over some cash to sit on a couch and have some pretty girl bring us drinks all afternoon...
-
For those going to Vegas, try not to get an STD from Kelly.

This will be my third year in a row going to Vegas for the opening weekend. My bros and I always camp out at the Hard Rock sports book. It is rarely over crowded and they have a bar right up front next to the sports book with 4 TV's. I have been able to sit right in front and watch the K-State each time (can't remember if there was sound, always extremely pak'd).
Also Hard Rock is fun because its one of the only books that still does teaser bets. I would love for other Cats fans to join!

planet hollywood's sports book sucks. their casino sucks. everything about that place sucks.
disagree. seating is comfortable, the TVs are basically on top of you, easy access to a sandwich shop (Earl of Sandwich), plenty of bars nearby, and as a bonus, you can get a great waffle cone for under $10.
-

Aria is near the Crystals! :horrorsurprise:
-
KKK seems to have accepted the premise that ALL of us want to watch the game in Vegas with him. I know you all say it'd be difficult to find seating for 20 in most sportsbooks.... How about seating 19? TIA
-
if anyone wants to watch k-state vs. wisconsin with me, let me know.
i'll be wearing my wisconsin shirt.

@EastCoastGamblr Plaza and @TheMirageLV have newly renovated sportsbooks. Hope to check em both out tomorrow.

We are doing a $90 all you can eat/drink deal at Harrahs. Sounds like there will be some good seats available if we get there soon enough.
Also, I don't care if this is the best deal or even a crappy one. Nothing you guys (clams) can say will bring me down from this TITLETOWN Vegas high.

That sounds really fun, ksc!

I did the PH Mezz party last year...I think it was like $50 for beer and crap food but plenty of seating, big TV showing all games, and gambling booths setup for quick betting. It was an alright setup.
http://www.harrahs.com/casinos/planet-hollywood/casino-entertainment/hoops-on-the-mezz-detail.html
-
Was it easy to get beer/food, PT? Could you get up from your seats and go gamble and come back after a bit? Did you at least feel like you got your money's worth?

Beer and food were super easy. Temp gambling stations were very close, didn't have to go down to the book. Given what other places demand out of seats for this weekend, I felt it was an alright deal. It didn't have a great atmosphere depending on the games going on, definitely wasn't as fun as sitting in a packed book, it was like sitting in a huge conference room....but for the price, I'd probably do it again.
Found a pic:

Lobster me and Earl of Sandwich do not suck. Their book is pretty below average.

I'm putting Jakesie on my tie up in the basement and slowly murder list for this one.
-
I'm going to be honest: I don't get Vegas. I mean, it's fun for a weekend every 5 years or so, but that's about all I want.
And I also don't get the "stay away from The Strip!" people. This isn't 1972; The Strip is Vegas. I don't see the point of a Vegas trip that doesn't take place 90% on The Strip.

No line for me a couple of weeks ago, nor did I see one the dozens of times I walked by. You're right about the ice cream across the hall from earl of sandwich :lick: Also PBR Bar was a diamond in the rough, the ribs were surprisingly good. Also $20 open bar
-
we're talking about NCAA tournament time, not random drive by's 2 weeks ago.
last year the ph sports book lines started ~ an hour before first games and remained steady all day
the conference room thing Phil Titola mentioned wasn't too busy but I couldn't imagine sitting in those chairs all day drinking miller lite. decent gambling,+ food set up though
not everywhere is busy, you just have to know where and when to go
-
you can avoid the sportsbook line if you're a harrahs platinum or diamond card holder, or if someone you're with has one (they don't check id when you're making bets). those cards also give you access to the private lounges which include free drinks and food, along with several private tv's including a giant Panasonic plasma that must have been+ 100 inches and leather sofas. I do endorse this approach if available to you
-
Pro tip for potential sportsbook viewers: Show up super early, like before the sportsbook even opens, and write "taken" on a piece of paper and place it on a seat. :surprised:
-
The Hoops and Hops Cosmo thing had big round tables that would fit a group of 20 if you crammed in. They had multiple drink stands and they only sold so many wrist bands so it didn't get packed. It was a pretty classy deal. Or as classy as a room full of 80% drunk bruhs screaming at basketball games with unlimited free drinks can be. It was easy to leave and come back as there was enough seating for everyone. We just tipped our chairs against the table and they were there when we came back. They had drink servers as well if you didn't want to go get a drink and they wouldn't accept tips which I thought was bizzare.

I'll be there for a friends bachelor party, dorks. I didn't pick the weekend I'm just trying to watch the cats game.
I'm probably going to go to the wedding, too. Lemme guess, you two nancys think those aren't any fun either?

So much amateurism in these posts. Sack up nancy boys, this is the four day weekend of all foursomes ever assembled. I truly can believe the thought of taking off work to go to Vegas and then smack hoes, belligerently indulge in gloriful, mostly free, consumption (if you're rambling), all while seeking out parties and other fans in a combative manner while spewing slurs and hate with a little wabash thrown in is effing work.
Somebody get a mod in here to clean this trash up. It's effing march you comatose loser. If I see you out here I will pirate fight you.

You know what else is hard, raising five children under the age of 12.

Never done Vegas for tourney. Sounds like it could be fun but it would be based on who you were with and for that matter you could go to a cabin in the middle of nowhere or a beach with tons of casinos like aruba and have just as much fun. Imo of course.

Vegas for the tourny is super pud and about the most fun you can have. It's just like normal vegas but with roughly 1000% more high fiving of strangers. Just plan about a month out with where you want to watch and get dinner reservations (like normal). It's also a surprisingly cheap time to go.
-

Love the help, guys. Probably going to be a millionaire when I come back.
Not from betting on the KSU game. Vegas was picking that as the upset special as the most likely one of the first round. Now word is out. This will lower the payouts.

Does not work, my buddy got kicked out of club, then kicked out of sports book for sleeping in chair...Happened on Friday.
Stayed at Aria, spend $125 at book and you get a free drink. Small book, but I like it.
If you're looking for an Asian massage parlor, great one off Decatur and Pioneer

Just a follow-up on our hoops trip in Vegas...
We went to Harrah's- for $90 we got unlimits coors/miller light, breakfast buffet (donuts and coffee), lunch and dinner buffet (pizza, hot dogs, veggies, queso and a few other smaller things) and then exclusive lines for sports betting. It was in a conference room probably about 3 times the size of the Alumni Center ballroom and had tables with 10 seats around them and they had 8 projection TVs total on 3 different walls around the room. They would take turns alternating between the audio on each game so if a game was close we all got to watch and listen.
Overall I'd say I would do it again, we drank beer from about 10 am until 7 pm and ate plenty of crappy food. The lines to place bets were about 10 minutes long at the most packed time and the atmosphere was pretty cool. People were clearly cheering for La Salle and K-State in the room even though they weren't a fan of either team.
I'm sure there are better places to go and when we go back next year we'll probably try one of them, but this wasn't a bad option by any means. The lines to place bets weren't long at any of the places we went but it was hard to get a seat. You could tell people had camped out from early in the morning to watch. The Mirage has a pretty sweet sportsbook, and the Rio has a cool night club but is otherwise pud in every other aspect. Stay on the strip and if you're under 25 and like hot babes, stay at the Cosmo. Place was crawling with honeys.
Didn't see any goEMAWers although we saw plenty of cats fans :(

I would definitely do Harrah's again. It was the most fun just because you were surrounded by hundreds of other fans of other teams that all had money on every basketball game. Made for a fantastic atmosphere. I'd entertain other ideas, but between the all you can eat food and the all you can drink Miller Light (extra hoppy), that was an awesome time and way worth it.

Also, SabiNation and I learned that Indiana fans are a tid bit racist.
They were playing a drinking game in the middle of the room for their game where you drink anytime a white person scores or a guard rebounds. You finish your drink when a non starter white person gets subbed in. A few Wisconsin fans seems to really enjoy it :dunno:

Indiana is more than a tad bit racist. Easily the most racist state north of the mason-dixon. Its like Kentucky without black people.

I’m already planning on going to the game in Austin and was probably going to the game in Vegas too. Talked to a few people about it already

Just booked a hotel(2 comp nights!)

KC to Austin, Austin to Vegas, Vegas to KC on Delta . . . so tempting $407.21

Damn that’s crazy
-
Is this basically a Keyontae type medical thing?
-
Don't know that yet. Keyontae was in intensive care for a long time and he was initially misdiagnosed with acute myocarditis but it turns out he has athletes heart. With Bronny's seemingly much quicker recovery I'd guess they don't have the same diagnosis but I'm far from a doctor, much less a cardiologist
-
I bet he’s getting some pretty darn good medical care.
-
Less than a month! Who all is going? I was looking at tickets for the game today.
-
Football is stupid anyways. Flying out this afternoon let’s rough ridin' goooooooo

What a treat. Good on you.
-
Is this the game thread? That might have been the worst pregame show I’ve ever witnessed. Haywood and the WNBA player were fine. Host was brutal.
-
Give us some Dai Dai
-
Finister is a red-shirt freshman. Who that predicted that last winter only be told thatcouldn't be?
-
Our offense is brutal
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Perry will be fine and so will the offense
-
Perry hasn't been able hit threes ingee, the scrimmage, exhibition or tonight.
-
Need to get a local masonry company to fork over some NIL money to these guys.
-
I was thinking we might play a lot of three guard with Tomlin out.
-
Would be nice to cash in on some of these offensive rebounds.
-
I think we'll put it together. Maybe not tonight, they'll gel.
-
Art is a bonafide stud and when Tomlin comes back they are going to be a huge problem.
-
Threes have to start falling, right?
-
Our "best shooter" is 0 for about 15 so far.
-
Lol that technical. Our rebounding might be pretty great this year.
-
McNair with the DOBs.
-
Big Will is more skilled than I thought.
-
I think we might have more orebs this half than we did the entirety of last year
-
Our "best shooter" is 0 for about 15 so far.
he is definitely a shooter of the ball
-
USC coach with the strongest Caesar cut I’ve ever seen.
-
That was not a foul.
-
Collier getting away with ass-loads of shove offs. Tang needs to be in the officials’ ass about it. He should have at least two offensive fouls.
-
Finish, gottdamnit
-
Don't like the turnover spres and near silence from Perry and Kaluma.
-
Game looks different with 3s are falling
-
Blowing a lot of whistles on Cats.
-
We need one of these 5 stars.
-
rough ridin' refs
-
Maybe next game
-
More McNair, less zone.
-
I'm burning this thread up
-
so it appears when we aren't gifted 2 all-conference players of the year types, we are trash
-
i don’t care about the poor shooting, it will get better.
these uniforms have to be the worst in all of d1. who can I blame for these? has the football chode gained influence over the hoops team?
can I speak to the manager?
-
That Finister shove on Collier was fantastic
-
Not even competitive. So disappointing.
-

They’re not terrible. Not generic either. But there really isn’t a good reason not to just embrace the throwbacks and wear them full time. That’s the brand.
-
Not even competitive. So disappointing.
Surprised. Seemed like we outcompeted in much of first half. Then to cut it to four early in 2nd. Nothing since.
This team needs a guy. Someone will step up and probably another.
-
I'm with Creighton fans that Kaluma doesn't need to shoot 3s.
-
I'm with Creighton fans that Kaluma doesn't need to shoot 3s.
Yeah, Kaluma didn't exactly live down his Creighton rep tonight...
-
Collier didn’t score in the second half.
-
There's more than enough time to make a comeback.
-
If we can hit shots.
-
Schooled them on the boards all night and then give up to O-boards late.
-
Why would Kaluma foul Ellis. THINK
-
Kaluma sucks
-
Worst three days in K-State history.
-
A win would have been great, but I ain't panicking yet. I saw some good pieces there among the bad bits. We'll see what happens.
-
Good things were the play from the centers, first half rebounding and second-half Perry.
Bad things were second-half defense, first-half shooting, first-half sloppy ballhandling, Kaluma jump shooting (drive to the basket gottdamnit).
Cam was OK, but got himself in foul trouble. RJ and Dai Dai got their baptism. Manning and Rich didn't get enough minutes to make judgment.
Missed Tomlin big time and probably Glover, too.
-
We just need to figure out who our go-to guys are. Lots of jyc dudes out there. Will be a fun team to follow.
-
they looked nervous, rushed. just need to settle down

As disappointing as the Cats were, they weren't eight turnovers in the final minute to lose to -- check notes -- Abilene Christian. Ah but I've been assured Boynton's job is secure from the same expert who said last winter there was no way Finister could red shirt when it was blatantly obvious that was what Tang was planning to do.

I disagree that we missed tomlin that much. we played well on the interior. as a matter of fact, the biggest takeaway from this crap show was that we’re not one dimensional in the paint.
this game was defined by our inability to keep up with their guards who put up almost 60 points against us.
we’re a new team but so is usc.
-
Yea our guard play is really concerning without The Glove.
-
USC returned Ellis and Johnson and added Collier. We could definitely use another experienced guard but also should still be good this season without one imo.
-
Gonna be a long and frustrating season of growing pains

The last 6 minutes of the first half when Cam was on the bench with two fouls was very telling of how impactful he is. It went from 23-20 to 40-27 until Perry hit the buzzer at half. Essentially for six minutes we got outscored 17-4.
-
They showed that they could stay out of foul trouble in the first half, and could draw fouls from the opposition. The shooting will improve.
-
We outrebounded a team that smoked us. I feel pretty good about that. The hustle was there.
-
there were plenty of orebs out there for the taking, that’s for sure
-
Very weird game. I didn't feel like the cats played poorly, but somehow the game seemed out of reach the entire second half.
-

FTR was good too. Just need some of that sweet sweet EFG%.

Tomlin minutes for the turnover prone and bricklaying Kaluma would have been a godsend.

Good observation. Sounds like Cam is a very important "glue guy" for our Wildcats this season.
-
Once Perry gets his shot back, that will open up a lot for the rest. If we shot a normal percentage last night we may have won.
We definitely seem to have a bunch of individuals who haven’t quite figured out where they all fit yet. I think this year is going to be fun because I anticipate a lot of team growth.
Also, Dai Dai and RJ have an opportunity to get a lot of PT and their growth will also be fun to watch.
-
I've never been a fan of sitting a guy with 2 fouls in the first, oscar was notorious for it.
-
We lost because we shot 22% in the first half. We could have had a decent lead at the half.

art’s to% last night was only slightly worse than nae’qwan’s from last season (by half of a percentage point).
his problem last night was the same as everyone else’s, poor shooting
nae’qwan not playing last night had very little to do with our loss although it’s easy to place the blame on him and his replacement
-
We lost because we shot 22% in the first half. We could have had a decent lead at the half.
They did a really nice job of taking away our ability to run a transition offense effectively. We should be able to do that against a lot of teams better than we did last night.

Both of our teams did a good job of making a somewhat disjointed game. It appeared that we were both forcing each other to play just a hair faster than able. We got plenty of really good shots. At no point did I feel like their D was smothering us. We just rough ridin' sucked at percentage. That will resolve itself. If we played that game twice, we win the second one, IMO.
Also, any given night, Collier won't be allowed his forearm shove and will be made much less dominant. Boogie was great.
I think we have a shot at being really good, and I am not sure where the Kaluma hate is coming from. I think he is going to be the guy when crap hits a wall.

For me, the negativity on Kaluma comes from reading too many Creighton fan opinions, which were basically confirmed last night (in this one game sample): dribbles too much, doesn't have a great handle, gets the ball stolen, settles for long range shots too much instead of driving, etc.
All of that happened yesterday. That said, he's clearly got talent/skill and as you said, we don't have a clear go-to guy when we need a bucket. Hopefully that'll figure itself out - I also think there's a good chance it's Kaluma by the end of the year (if not 1A, then 1B).
-
He was incredible in the first 5 minutes and then really dropped off after that. Not sure if they guarded him different but he stopped getting to the rim and was settling for a lot of jump shots. I think he will get better coaching from our staff than Mcneck's tho so I expect him to improve on his weaknesses a lot as season progresses.
-

It was a lot worse than that the first 15 minutes, yet we kept within 3 scores.
