The Cats managed one of their best defensive efforts of the Big 12 season while hitting 3s, controlling the boards, and forcing TOs. The Cats also won the battle of FT rating, a rarity this year.
Steady game from Rod while Angel battled foul trouble blended with a superb effort by DJamer off the bench.
-
When DJnino step off the bench and provide boards/ put backs I get extremely happy.
-
Rod was Rod, but there was a stretch while we put UT away where DJamer seemed to be making a play every possession on both ends of the floor. I was also pleasantly surprised by his follow dunk.
-
Ten minutes with JO and give the rest to DJamer. Just what we have been looking for :lick:
-
DJamer just have me hope for not being complete crap on the post behind Gip next yr. Looked like a beautiful baby faced assassin tonight.

Great work, ksu_FANNING!
-
Our D was awful in the first half, seemed like they missed at least 10 wide open 3's cause we helped on Kabangos penetration and didn't close out.
-
Our offense is a joy to watch. I'm still adjusting as a fan but the crisp passing and open jump shots scratch me right where I itch.
-
Texas hit their first 4 shots...... after that they only shot 32.6% eFG rest of the game
Always great only having 7 TOs and being +8 on TO Dif
62% from the FT line. Not happy with that number, but it is pretty awesome to know that this was our worst FT shooting game since game 6 of the conf season in Ames. ( I can remember when 62% almost seemed like a normal game under Frank)
-
Offense was fun, thought we were really stagnant in their zone, just shuffling the ball around the perimeter a bit too much though. Regardless of the second half, defense continues to be rough ridin' soft and brutal.
-
Shane's D was poetry tonight
-
We went pretty deep in the bench, too. I was happy about that.
-

:dubious:
Anyways....great to see yet another cat step up and get the job done. :katpak:

Yep. Helped ease the pain of Spradling playing terrible and the racist refs treatment of Angel. Can't remember one of the fouls, but two of them were good defense and the racist's call touch fouls that every other player on the court gets away with when playing shitty defense. Angel is so fun to watch. Hopefully his junior and senior year he doesn't screwed with stupid touch fouls.
-
angel finished with three fouls. whatever foul trouble he was in was created by his coach.

Hindsight; Angel only playing 24 minutes isn't a terrible thing.

our defense is still concerning...

i'd have liked to see mcgruder play less too.
i agree with michigancat, of course. had to listen on the radio, and after each and every art foul, wyatt said art "had" to sit down with foul trouble. which was inaccurate and a lie.

JO keepin the beat. :horrorsurprise:

JO is useless again, and lol if people try to blame his back.

His back didn't cause him to be completely lost on D bro.

pain meds, bad person.
-
There was a solid 4 minutes where JO didn't know if we were on offense or defense. It was about this time last year he decided to wake up and start protecting that rim. Hopefully tomorrow is that wake up call because OSU shot 100% from slam dunk range last weekend.

as long as they keep him well oiled and have plenty of diesel fuel on hand, Robot Rod will just keep on truckin'

finally a game kenpom can get a stiffy from :jerk:

Big Men minutes against Texas:
JO: 10
Gip: 15
DJamer: 15
Nino: 6
The big men should have fresh legs tonight.
Guards:
Angel: 24
Will: 24
Tay: 29
Not too bad; they should be alright.
Wings:
McGruder: 36
Shane: 33
I'm not really worried about these guys.
OSU had five guys over 30 minutes last night:
Smart: 37
Brown: 34
Cobbins: 34
Forte: 32
Nash: 31
After that, Jurick and Murphy had 11 and 9 minutes, respectively.
My hope is that we're just a step or two faster tonight.
-
Again, I don't think the second game really matters as far as stamina goes...
Most of these guys played AAU ball where they were playing 4 games a weekend in high school and they have only gotten in better shape in college as the games have gotten more intense.
No one on the court will be affected from last night's games.

Eh, it may for Cobbins and Nash.

Thanks for looking that up...I was kind of wondering how fresh the Pokes would be tonight.
-
I feel like almost every basketball practice an NCAA team goes through would be tougher than playing one game. I don't think "freshness" will be a factor.

"You know, its great to see this young man getting so many minutes tonight, why just the other year, the only time he played ball in an orange uniform was in a men's correctional league!"

I don't think it will be. I was hoping Baylor would take them to like 5 OTs though

Yeah I always think to compare it to high school football. I'd rather play two games that a practice any day. More fun, less gassers, nicer field.
Jo was lost as crap, I loved seeing DJamer in there. Wonder what he and Gip would look like together against a bigger team?
-
Gip played really well last Saturday; 15 PTs, 6 boards. Hopefully we can get him going again.
And I'd like to see 15 solid minutes from JO, especially as a rim protector.
And like I said before last game, it will come down to our shooting. We were below average on 3s in Stillwater, but not terrible at .348. However, on 2s we only hit .421. Everyone besides Gip was .321 with Angel finishing 3-12.
I don't think OSU can count on Angel struggling with his shot like he did last week; he only had one offensive game worse all year.

also not letting osu getting tons of wide open dunk shots would help.

Yeah, if we give up 1.16 ppp again the other stuff probably doesn't matter.
-
I would like to see JO in there when OK St has Juric in. Juric isnt really a threat when OK st does the pick and roll out high. IF JO is guarding Cobbins.... then it is much more of an issue.
Need for Shane to have a good effort on defense too. He has tough assignments. Cobbins to start the game and then the bigger Nash when OKST goes small

Q. In your game, you move a lot
without the basketball. There was about a
three-minute span in that second half where I
thought maybe you were standing a little bit.
Did you get tired tonight?
RODNEY MCGRUDER: No, I didn't. I
just seen the way they were face-guarding me. So I
just wanted to wait and just set up my cuts, use
screens better than I was using at first, because
first I wasn't waiting on screens and it didn't allow
me to get open.

McGruder is such a stone cold assassin. The stoniest, coldest, assassiniest.
