Angel post-game.

On the upcoming game…
“It is definitely going to be a tough game. When you are trying to compete for a championship, the road is going to be tough. We are looking forward to the challenge. We know the atmosphere there is going to be great. We have to play pumped up. We will take it and we will be ready.”

Angel Rodriguez (now at 153 assists) will pass Steve Henson's record 186 assists if he averages 8 assists and K-State plays 5 more games.

All time?  Like 4 yrs of Henson?  I thought it was posted here a week or so ago that Angel would have to average like 6/game for the next two yrs to reach Henson?

yeah, the 4 year record for assists at KState was set by some stud averaging roughly 1.9 per game over his career.

I can't tell if Henson was that amazeballz, or if KSU does not have any other great PG in its entire history.
I mean when 2nd place in assists has way way less 1st place, and is a combo guard...i dunno

Assists:

1. Steve Henson 582
2. Jacob Pullen 455

Besides Henson, none of the other top assists per game guys played 4 years.

Roder, Zeigler, Reid, Richards, Beane, Adams (not a PG), and Clemente are the others on the list.

Top 3 APG seasons:
Roder 5.62
Henson 5.47
Zeigler 5.36

Current:
Angel
5.46

kstate bball between the time when freshmen couldn't play and when huggins/martin took over didn't have a lot of really good players.  and a lot of the better players they did have were jucos.

Also assists are a fairly new stat, correct?

I think he shatters Henson's record, unless we change drastically as an offense over time Angel's ability already to make 8-10 assist/game look routine is only going to improve, which is kinda scary to think about.

Yes, relatively new. Haven't looked to see if Evans has four-year numbers. Absolutely true the program's better point or combo guards who handled the ball a lot were jucos. Only four-year point I can think of is Clent, and you may remember he kind of sucked.

Ignoring how difficult it is to average 8 apg over 2 seasons, I don't think he's shattering that record. He will assume a greater scoring role next season.

He has 254 assists right now, over 60 games left in his career gives just under 5.5 assists/games, and that's ignoring Saturday's game, and other guaranteed games in big 12 conference tourney, and who knows (and won't add) other ncaa/big 12 tourney games. He's shattering it, unless he gets hurt, though I'd agree my initial 8 assist/game is over the top. Under 5.5 isn't
