Title: Blind seeding
Post by: kso_FAN on March 04, 2013, 10:13:38 AM
With Selection Sunday less than 2 weeks away, I put together this chart of 26 teams likely to be at least 7 seeds according to various bracketologists out there (right now). Choosing 26 was simply based on letters in the alphabet. Teams in bold are currently leading their conference. kp = kenpom. Everything else should be self explanatory.

Your task is to give your 1 though 4 seeds including your overall #1.

How we would do it or how the committee would?

How the committee would makes more sense (granted, you have limited information), but however you want is fine too.

This is fun.  Is there a way you could post a downloadable spread sheet of your table?

#1 overall is so mumped its hard to put into text. I would say the zags at this point, they win and dont get caught in the traps. duke is close but they are so up and down its hard to even put them as a 1 sometimes

if i was seeding it would be

1-gonzaga
2-duke
3-michigan
4-kansas

2-1-indiana
2-2-miami
2-3-georgetown
2-4-kansas state

3-1 -louisville
3-2-florida
3-3 -mich st
3-4- new mexico

4-1 oklahoma state
4-2- syracuse
4-3-marquette
4-4-ohio state

* I changed this 15 times and whats great about this year is I could see all 15 times being close

It's funny since only one team has a loss to a 200+ team.

#1 overall - H (not even sure it's close)

other 3 - I, C, B

I would have had oklahoma state above some of the 7 loss teams, I didn't look that far down the list.

I honestly had no idea which team was us until I looked it up. Still, a 4 seed is where we belong right now. We haven't beaten enough good teams to be higher. Maybe after the Big 12 tournament, we could slide up.

Yeah, well, that is a completely meaningless stat to me and I gave it absolutely zero credit when seeding teams.

Think you're missing the point here, but that's ok. I appreciate your honesty and hope the committee likes the cats more than you do.

I would have us as a 3 seed with a win in Stillwater, fwiw. I'd probably drop us to a 5 with a loss.

I also acknowledged that my rankings were not what I thought the committee would do, only what they should do.

Blind seeding is always kind of a fun thing to try out.    Its tough when you got 26 teams you are looking at

For me, Its hard to seed teams just off a blind resume because, take Indiana and N Mexico for example. Indiana has 7 top 50 wins. NM has 8.

But when you look at who Indiana beat.  I put my current seed projection in ( ).    They beat Mich (2) Gtown (2), Mich St twice (3) Ohio St (4)
UNC (7) and Minn (10).    Then u look at who NM beat.  Unlv (5) Col St twice (8), SD St (9) Cincy (10), Boise St twice (12) and UConn (Not eligible).   Clearly Indiana's wins are better than NM.

That's a really good point, but I think it will most likely work itself out after the conference tournaments. Looking at blind resumes is the absolute best way to seed a tournament if you are trying to get the most deserving teams the best seeds. It's not quite as good if you are trying to give the best seeds to the best teams.
