i arbitrarily selected 1988 since it is 25 years ago

Midnight in Paris is like the unaborted love child of Annie hall and bill & teds excellent adventure if it was conceived to the audio book of a moveable feast.

*Unreal amount of good rewatchable movies 1998 (SPR, Deep Impact, Armageddon, Truman Show, Big Lebowski, A Bugs Life, Mulan, Somthing About Mary, Pleasantville, Godzilla) but I had to go with my #1 guilty pleasure.
-
Great list, I forgot about team America :O
-
Also there's no rough ridin' way you'd rather watch Walk the Line than Thank you for Smoking
-
The Faculty was very underrated, good mention. I think Kick Ass destroys Inception in rewatchability factor though.
-
1999 - American Beauty
this is my #1 ever movie.
-
Also there's no rough ridin' way you'd rather watch Walk the Line than Thank you for Smoking
also no shawhank?
Edit: espescially if you put something about Mary on there
Edit edit: nevermind just saw what the * meant
Edit edit edit: jFC you liked shitty movies in 1998
-

i fell asleep during Thank you for Smoking...which is a rewatchable death sentence for any movie

Not saying Kick Ass isn't good or that I don't have stupid movies on my list. I guess I've just cut back on watching movies that look dumb based on their previews in the last few years.
-
I actually think Midnight in Paris was the only grown-up movie I watched in 2011. I guess I watched "The Fighter", too. Which was worse.
-
2012 - Django Unchained
2011 - Drive

Well don't watch it on NyQuil next time. It's a pretty witty fast-paced satire, seems right in your wheelhouse. :dunno:

Some of you have really pretentious favorite movie lists. Testy Westy's list is acceptable. Everyone else, not so much. I mean "Avatar"? :barf:

1999: Office Space; The Green Mile; Sixth Sense; Three Kings; Ride with the Devil; Three to Tango
2000: Return to Me;
2001: Bridget Jones’ Diary; Life as a House;
2002: A Walk to Remember; About A Boy; Count of Monte Cristo;
2003: Love Actually; Old School; Holes; Uptown Girls; View from the Top;
2004: The Incredibles; Shaun of the Dead; Spanglish; Ella Enchanted;

Do yourself a favor and get over the "i dont know, that's weird" response you undoubtedly have with Wes Anderson

I don't even know who Wes Anderson is. Is he a K-State grad? And I get that you all probably don't like chick flicks, but not liking "Holes" or "The Help" or "Ride with the Devil?" That's on you, man. It's crazy talk.

I wrestled with it. Watching it at home I'd choose IB everytime. But 3D Avatar on the big screen is an amazing experience, even if the storyline sucks.

Kid movies
89 Lean on Me
I think you have the 1986 movie Stand By Me where kids go looking for a dead body mixed up with the 1989 Lean On Me where Morgan Freeman plays a badass cleaning up an inner city school.
Given this, I will now assume that on your list you will replace this selection with the obvious choice for 1989 kids movie, The Wizard. (It is actually 2nd on my list for all movies for 1989)
-
Pretty sure true lies is rated R
PG-13
True Lies (1994)
141 min - Action | Thriller - 15 July 1994 (USA)
Motion Picture Rating (MPAA)
Rated R for a lot of action/violence and some language
:dunno: If you consider it a kids movie more power to you i guess

I love "chick flicks" that are good. That's why I have Sleepless on my favorite list, and why I didn't highlight Crazy Stupid Love, PS I Love You, The Holiday, Music & Lyrics, and Love Actually. In fact that has nothing to do at all with what I said.

Someone's favorite movie from 1994 can tell you a lot about them. Shawshank, Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction were all up for Best Picture.

Just don't complain that everyone is too pretentious and then follow it up by posting movies like Hitch and saying you've never even heard of Wes Anderson and you should be good to go. :D
-
"Hitch" is not pretentious. And in my defense, the movies that year were pretty meh. I couldn't just leave that year blank, could I? (And 1994, Shawshank. No question.)

2009 - Inglourious Basterds
2010 - The Town
2011 - Drive
2012 - The Dark Night Rises

Looking at the movie releases, 2005 was a pretty sub-par year, but Hitch was just a bad movie. I would probably go with Batman Begins or Sin City.

I should mention that I found that exercise excruciatingly difficult to accomplish. I had no thoughts on practically the entirety of that list and felt I could give most of those pictures anywhere from "bad" to "very good". Having said this, this is not a response to mocat's inquiry, as I believe michigancat has responded appropriately.

I must say that I'll probably watch Heat now that pw gave it a "Great" ranking.

At the end of Heat is one of the best shootout scenes in a non-military movie that I have seen.

Flatliners was great too, for a movie made 2 years before the best period of cinema.
