Title: Kansas State Fans: The Jehovah's Witnesses at Singing Day Party Time
Post by: Pete on February 06, 2013, 06:56:11 AM
While the other kids are partying, our Mom's pick us up early and we head to the old Morton building Kingdom Hall for another boring day.

I want to believe that we'll continue to get 4 and 5 star transfers and it will all be OK...but the other kids look like they are having so much fun...

Sometimes I wish I was born into an OU family.  I am so ashamed.

its fun to watch

remember this stud...................

Devante Kincade is sending this cover letter to Ole Miss this morning, along with his LOI.

02/06/13

To: Coach Freeze
Coach McGriff Coach Warner, and Coaching Staff

Dear Sir:
Today is National signing day and as the quarterback of this class, I feel like I have to lead by example. Today I commit to lead in practice, on and off the field, in the classroom and in everything I do as a Rebel. I will give my best at all times as a student and as the quarterback by studying the playbook, executing the offense, and doing all I can to get us to Atlanta and securing the National Championship. God has blessed me to be the QB for the best recruiting class in Ole Miss History. I do not take that lightly. Today February 6th is when it starts, by getting up earlier than I have to be the first one to send in my National letter of Intent! I am an Ole Miss Rebel and by the grace of God, I can do all things through him who gives me strength! Mr. Switchblade DPK let us go to work!

Sincerely,

DeVante P. Kincade

I agree 34.......people can sugarcoat this class ALL they want but we missed on NEEDS. And no we are not looking at stars but rather NEEDS and KSU whiffed big-time.   Just look at all the misses....it is embarrsing to say the least....and yes I know HCBS can coach them up as he has proven that year in and year out but damn it would be nice to see what he can do with a roster loaded with some impact guys at positions of need.  These misses are becoming quite comical actually....

DE Marcus Hardison - Arizona State
DT Hakeem Akinola - Did NOT qualify
DT Edwin Delva - Oregon State
DT Reggie Meant - Kentucky
DT Marquel Combs - Kansas
DT Terrell Brooks - Baylor
LB Martrell Spaight - Arkansas
LB Marcus Jenkins-Moore - Kansas
LB De'Vondre Campbell - Minnesota
CB Riyahd Jones - Tennessee
CB Jerell Morrow - Oklahoma State
CB Melvinson Hartfield - Arkansas
QB Kenny Hill - Texas A&M
TE Kolton Schindelar - Tulsa
FS Dominque Alexander - OU

And don't tell me we didnt want these kids...IF we brought them in for an official visit then we most certainely wanted them.  These are whiffs plain and simple.  And I know you dont get everybody but we struck out a lot at DE, DT, LB, and CB....all positions of need after losing Malone, Chapman, Brown, Tuggle, Childs, Davis, Williams, Sua, Lutui and Boyd.

It has zero to do with talent evaluation. We lost 3 DT's, 2 DE's and 3 LB's and we have signed 2 JUCO bodies to fill those 8 gaps. That is poor recruiting.2/6 10:30 AM | IP: Logged

We have a lot of sunshine pumpers on this board that will attack you for posting this thread, but I agree with you on this one.  It was not a good class overall, and we did very poor in filling our immediate needs.  DT is going to be a complete mess for us next year. Yes I trust in Snyder and somehow he will duct tape together some form of a d-line next year, but its going to be thin at best. This class feels a lot like the one we ended up with after our Big 12 championship against OU in 2003.  Unfortunately, with Smith and Joe Bob gone, we just lost two of our best recruiters.  Next years recruiting class could be much rougher for us.  2/6 10:39 AM | IP: Logged

Posted this above but it seems to fit this thread better. I agree with you 34 - it's very dissapointing and I really hope we get some late impact guys that couldn't get in elsewhere.

When is the last time we saw a recruit mentioned with or associated with coach Mo? I know there have been a couple but it is pretty obvious that he has never been much of a recruiter. The only real D-Line Juco we got this year was brought in by JBC. I just think you can't ignore this and the fact that we have notoriously struggled landing DE and DT talent or keeping guys committed when he is the position coach. You factor in that Joe Bob left and it makes you wonder. Wasn't there talk of him going into an administrative role a few years ago?2/6 10:46 AM | IP: Logged

I agree. I will feel badly for Snyder if he goes out with a losing season. This whole thing is not playing out well. I am about the age of Snyder. I know what age can do to you in the business world even if you are more effective then someone younger. It looks this year that Snyder is not as effective as he would need to be. I hope I am wrong. We are all very naive to think his age has not become a factor. Here's hoping to the development of several All Americans that are not rated. Snyder is still our coach. I support him and speak how great our program is to anyone. Go Cats!!!!2/6 10:47 AM | IP: Logged

I forgot about the pattened GPC move of when someone posts something negative there are 3-4 people that simply respond with "pansy" or "crybaby" without actually address why the OP may/maynot have had a valid point.

Yes, just naturally assume that that all these DITR's are going to pan out, just naturally assume they'll find some guys to plug in the glaring holes, and pretend that 2004 to 2005 never happened . . . whip, place into bowl, chill for 2 hours, remove from fridge,  place "you think you know more than Snyder" cherry on top.

It's not even about stars anymore, it's about addressing needs, and closing out on guys.

Tuckville is all in love with DITR's, but their reasoning is poor as always.

Guys like Chapman and Newman and Sproles were good athletes/players that everyone knew would make good D1 college football players.    Just because a kid like Sproles was fairly lightly recruited doesn't mean dick . . . he came from a good HS program, playing at the highest class and he performed well, everyone who saw him knew he had the tools.

Had Bishop had any kind of grades his offer list would have been a mile long, same with Quincy Morgan . . . back to Bishop, A&M (ironic) wanted him badly but couldn't figure out how to get him into school.

The facts remain, this staff whiffed badly this year and no amount of excuse making is going to change that reality.   Big 12 Champs should not whiff repatedly.    Two of our best players this year where 4 and 5 star guys out of high school.   Tuckville acts like schools like OSU, and Ole' Miss are located in destination locations . . . they're in the middle of red dirt and cotton fields.

We swung and missed at every JUCO linebacker and lost our plan B on signing day to effing Minnesota for the other guy we lost to Arkansas.

Just a complete failure by this coaching staff to land immediate impact players at need positions on defense in this class.  To rationalize it any other way is complete and total naivety.

Yep, just a couple of warm bodies at DT, a couple of no star guys.

You're the Big 12 champs, and now you'll spend the off season rummaging around trying to find a guy or two who didn't qualify elsewhere or some weird scenario to try and fill immediate needs.    Many of which turn out to be things like this once they're hanging around K-State: "Well my counselor said I only needed a C, but it turns out I really needed an A" or "Well, they said my classes couldn't transfer after all, so now I'll have to try the DII route and see what happens." . . . or "Nobody knows where he's at, he just disappeared".

Oh hey, hey guys, don't forget that 2004 class, one of the highest rated ones ever . . . yep, sound logic there, because the 2004 class was really highly rated and then didn't work out (because it turns we had a bunch of guys who couldn't get to campus), then by all means DO NOT ATTEMPT 8 rough ridin' years later to get good recruits who will make it to campus . . . just keep clinging to that 2004 class (and what were the Big 12 champs and a program who had been to 10 or 11 straight bowls doing relying so heavily on a singular recruiting class ONE year later anyway??).

I think they are confident a number of juco players will not be admitted at the schools with which they're signing, but this class finished with a fizzle.

The Big 12 Champs are recruiting so far out on the fringes, that they're hoping that kids don't qualify elsewhere . . . then once in Manhattan, "I think I am good, they're still checking though". . . . a few weeks later, "I am not really sure where I stand right now." . . . then a month or so later, "Well, my academic counselor at (insert JC name here) said I only needed 3 more credits in math, but it turns out I needed 6."

My personal favorite of all time is Clark from last year. He needed 1 online class that went from like Feb-July. In June we were scrambling to find an open scholly for Luc, but when we couldn't be went to Cincy. Come July we found out that Clark hadn't had any contact with his prof since April, quit mid-term, and never told anyone hoping the prof would just give him the C.

They forgot that even when this happened last year we mumped it up.

. . . and it was probably one of those deals that if Clark just contacts the prof a couple of times, and does a little busy work, he gets a C.  How does the coaching staff not know this is going on?   But, that's what happens when you recruit way out on the fringes like K-State does, and eventually it catches up to you.

The recruiting should not be this shitty unless there simply is a total disregard for it.  For a school that won the Big XII Championship, you have to simply not care, almost at all, at recruiting to achieve these kind of results.  Seriously, to win the Big XII and finish dead last in the rankings?  That's crazy.

Oh but you see, those ranking services don't know anything, and I agree . . . at some point, the "coach who we have" method catches up to you, it just naturally assumes that every other coach in the conference who recruits better is just a complete dumbass on gameday, and in game planning.

Everybody else just sells and lies, and K-State is "up front and honest".

The fallacy of the "we don't care about star rankings" talking point is that almost all of the JUCO players we targeted and recruited were highly rated players.  We just failed to land them.  That's not about purposely rejecting the recruiting services, that's just sucking at recruiting.

The money thing defies common sense, I doubt Ole Miss is the only school offering inducements, just like I'm sure they don't have the deepest pockets in the SEC. If they are beating Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Gerogia and Florida for recruits by paying them, they are going to get caught like tomorrow. Worth noting that the #1 recruit they signed already has a brother playing there.

Really the only P&V I have is the tuck logic, again let's take 2004 and 2005 for example, those bad years were a failure of recruiting classes from 2 and 3 and 4 years prior.   We won the Big 12 in 2003, there should have been no reason why 2005 shouldn't have been a stellar year, we went 39-15 between 2000 and 2003.  If tuckville believes LHC Bill Snyder, and you won't know until 2 or 3 years down the line about your recruiting.   Than you'd have to say that 2001, 2002 and 2003 recruiting was pretty much a failure.   But they keep seizing upon the 2004 class.

Then top it off with the fact that the 3 most visible players on this years team were a Ron Prince recruit and two transfers.

I hope he comes. I have no doubt he'd eventually be on scholarship and be a Big 12 level DT. Ridiculously strong.

As a former college wrestler, I wouldn't pass up an offer to play football, anywhere.

I'm certain that he would earn a scholarship, as well. Very athletic kid, very strong. I never got the chance to watch him play football in high school, but he is an incredible wrestler.

2004 and 2005 happened.  This coach and his "system" of recruiting produced those two years IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING A BIG 12 TITLE.

It will happen again before he retires.  I firmly believe that.

It's also not 1999 or 2004 in terms of what happens in this league.   Nobody sucks, except ku.

All the BS comparisons about how our highest rated classes didn't turn out 8 years ago, mean absolutely nothing today.   The league is almost completely different now, and the Southern schools are loaded with prolific offensive talent.   You can't whiff repeatedly on defensive guys.

Hold on, Baylor just scored again.

Well, I just enjoy pointing out some of the absurd logic and excuse making (primarily elsewhere).   We're not even talking stars or recruiting rankings anymore, we're talking about just getting some warm bodies at certain positions, leveraging a Big 12 title to land some quality guys, not 4 or 5 star guys, just some decent players at some key positions.   When the coaching staff fails to do that, you have a problem, I just think the kool aid drinkers (again, mainly elsewhere) just won't admit it.
