Title: Promoted
Post by: chunkles on February 02, 2013, 11:10:39 AM
What the hell do I do now? Effort level stays the same or less or more? bad person level?
Explain your promotion experiences, positive or negative.  Life afterwards.

If you don't have promotion experiences then this thread is read-only.

Effort level goes up 30% while you get used to it and get your employees headed in the direction you want them to go.  Once you get your arms around it in 6-12 months, then you effort level can drop back to down to what you are used to.  If you did a good job getting your arms around it and getting your people doing what they need to do, then your effort level can probably drop a little below what you are doing now.

Also, you probably need to be prepared to be at the office some more hours than usual.  If you have employees there some extra hours, it's worth it to be there and show your face.  Its good for morale, even if you are just in your office on goEMAW, they think you're working.

Treat the people with respect for the first 2-3 months because then when you need to discipline them you can go "look, it's not personal, you know that, but this, this, and this needs to change and that's what I'm expecting to see."  If that doesn't work, turn on bad person level.

Are you promoted to a completely new area or promoted over the people you used to work with?

Are you promoted to a completely new area or promoted over the people you used to work with?

This is a game-changing question.

Actually, knowing the higher-ups were home instead of working overtime motivated me to be at that level so I can do the same.  Also, I check my work email and respond from home like a champ.

over the people.  I've prepared my back for the influx of backstabbing.

Do some crap work or long hours to demonstrate/prove you got it on merit.  Other than telling former coworkers what to do when need be, try to treat them with the same amount of respect.  But the second anyone questions the promotion/your authority, give them one warning to cut the crap and then get rid of them.
