So I was thinking, after you get to the Sweet 16 the teams are about all equal. I mean between them all one can beat the other on any given day. Wouldn't the truest test of the "BEST TEAM" be a best or 3 series? The first two rounds are the weed out rounds of course and should be one and done (like the NBA playoffs used to be a short series in the first round), but after that I think we need to make it more fair, so a little guy like Cornell doesn't just have a lucky day and knock off a blue-blood just because they hit a lot of three?
WHAT DO YOU THINK goEMAW NATIONS?
-
No, only because once you get to the Sweet 16, it's the best 16 teams in the nation, so all's fair. All the crap teams are weeded out the first weekend, so anybody still playing in the Sweet 16 is worthy of being there.
In summary, only the top 16 teams of the season are still playing after the first weekend. Best 16.

The one loss elimination makes the tournament what it is. Simply the best.
-
round robin pool play makes more sense. 2 groups of 8 teams with the top 2 going to the final 4
-
You could certainly tweak it, but as OK said, the key thing is to get the pretenders and poorly coached highly ranked teams out of there after the 1st weekend. Once you get to clearly the best 16 teams in the country, you could shake things up a bit though.
-
I checked both "yes" and "no" because it seems like a great idea but maybe not.
-
I'm mixed on messing around with the current format, but I do like the idea of penalizing the teams that don't get to the round of 16, to further drive home the point that they aren't the super elite. So like they go on practice restrictions the next year or get relegated to Div. 2 like in soccer. Seems the fairest way to weed out the pretenders, no? :dunno:
-
perhaps we should penalize these "under achievers" who can't make the sweet 16 by forcing them to vacate their most recent championship, if they have one.
-
The fans of any socalled elite team that does not make the sweet 16 should be punished with enimas and stuff. That would be sweet(16).

I can't think of another season where the absolute best 16 teams actually made it this far. There are no flukes whatsoever.
It's almost like Moses came down from the mountain and said, "Here the the best sixteen teams in the nation. Let them play for it all...and stuff."
-
i got an idea- let's keep the blue blood elites with the blue blood elites. no reason to let these small time losers sit at the big kids lunch table, ever.
-
If there's an issue, it isn't fairness. The tournament couldn't be any more fair.
-
Even a three game series can be squirrely. If we wanted a true representation of who was the best team in the country, we'd use a poll. Preferably a computer based poll that is completely objective. I dunno maybe just have the top two teams from that poll duke it out or something.
