What if oscar is a complete bad ass, and he gets us to the Final 4 two years in a row, and we're all excited, then he takes a lateral job because we were so mean to him before he started winning. WHAT IF!?!?!

Would be perfect because that would be the point where he would start bringing in a bunch of talented quitters.  So, the timing would be perfect for Pearl to clean that crap up and move forward.

Walked into work today, and my boss who is a huge Illini fan only left out the "oscar independent" portion of this topic when bemoaning the nosedive. Then i get to login and read almost the same thing. Glorious morning so far.

Still solidly in the #burnitdown camp (unless weber recruits well), but I could solidly get behind Illinois was holding oscar back if that is the path we are destined.

The if-weber-recruits-well thought could be fools gold.  I mean, a bunch of ppl brought up all the *'s he had on his classes at Ill, and they seem to be talented individuals that are also really good at being quitters.

I think everybody looks at stars as gospel, I just look at them as probablities. So Im not hurt by us recruiting a bunch of 2 or 3 stars with Frank cause i knew at least one or two of them will pan out and if not he would Frank them. He played the numbers game.

BUT, I think stars do play into the perception of your program. If weber can get some 4 or 5 stars in here on the regular, I think it helps to fight the perception that Manhattan is impossible to recruit to. I dont give two shits if those 4-5 stars play like Jason Bennett with the next coach, cause im more worried about the perception.

If brucie gets "paper" talent in here, the next coach will think he can do the same. Mr. Pearl aint walkin through that door if he doesnt think he can get some elite kids in for barbques.

oscar Pearl would take this job today if it was offered and one condition was that he had to hire Shannon Spradling as an assistant coach.

I see this going one of three ways:

A. oscar does what he did at Illinois and gradually rides this horse into the ground. Along the way the recruiting tanks and when he is eventually fired we are left with a woolyesque talented team at best and no respectable coach will touch it with a 10 ft pole.

B. oscar does what he did at Illinois and gradually rides this horse into the ground. Along the way the recruiting maintains and when he is eventually fired we are left with a equal talented team as now and a coach with a pulse will jump at the opurtunity.

C. oscar does not do what he did at Illinois and gradually the program racks up wins, conference titles and respect.

Im with team #burnitdown for option A. Option B I think is recoverable and only requires #burnbrucedown. Option C, I can dream but i just cant see this happening in anyway that would not alter my perception of reality in some profound way.

Groce was a .500 coach in the MAC, I am not sure we can read too much into this

The sell was he's supposed to be this great recruiter.  He rough ridin' better be because notwithstanding the pud players oscar left his offensive and defensive systems are getting raped in conference.  Bo and Carmody basically skull mumped him.

explain destroying Butler by 17 and beating the Zags by 11 and tOSU by 19?  I don't think it's the systems.  I mean, it just looks like you guys don't make shots and when you don't, you REALLY don't.  Which I'd imagine what happens when you've got a perimeter players and no post presence or desire to run through the post (stretch 4's!)?

The Big Ten is just a grown ass man's league zacker.  It's no place for fresh fish or oscar.  No big whoop putting our nutsacks all over noncon teams even when we're terrible.  But you get in conference and it's some real welcome to the jungle crap.
