TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Basketball is hard => Topic started by: Kat Kid on January 09, 2013, 07:18:53 PM

They turn the ball over, their D does not force turnovers and have troubs when Withey has to come away from the lane. Man, I wonder if this is what oscar has been prepping for all year. Consider yourselves trolled gE.
-
ISU looks good. They are going to be tough to beat.
-
KU has games every year where they look mortal. Just not when they play us. Ever.
-
Thorpe is a poor mans not very good clemente and Elijah isnt much better. Way to many TO's and bad shots.
KU fans were spoiled with really good PG's ever since chalmers has was there.
-
Also I am pretty sure ISU does not believe in offensive rebounding
-
KU has games every year where they look mortal. Just not when they play us. Ever.
More true than not, only time it really hasn't worked is when we had our own immortal in J. Pullen
-
ISU's daring Kevin Young to shot 14 footers and he is such a beta he has turned almost all of them down. Eliminates his patented jump entry pass. I hope we do this.
-
If sqwawks manage to eff this up, the phog meltdown could potentially cut my winter heating bill in half.
-
Show of hands. Who thinks KU loses this game? I say they win by double digits.
-
I'll wait until the under 8 TO. If KU doesn't show much change over the next 4 minutes I think ISU might pull it off or KU wins by less than 5. If KU has any lead under the 8 TO ISU's done
-
KU run is coming, no doubt. But this Iowa State team is salty. God damn.
-
Refs will take care of this.
-
and boom goes the dynamite.
-
Thorpe is a poor mans not very good clemente and Elijah isnt much better. Way to many TO's and bad shots.

Aaron Miles and Kirk Hinrich are upset that you stopped with Chalmers
-
97% Kansas wins this.

No kidding. 6 guys in the rotation who seem to be fair to above average 3 pt shooters.

Of course.
-
college basketball should get rid of the 3 (unless we are banking them in)
-
by the way matt doherty is a confirmed moron.
yes, block/charge confusion was as embarrassing for him as us.
-
we gonna beat both these pud teams
-
This McClemente kid is pretty good
-
Benny Mac for Naismith Award
-
Why the eff would ISU not foul at the end of regulation? All they had to do was foul and they would've won. JFC Hoiberg.
-
U smell that home cookin'?
-
ot start is so preditable...
-
game.
-
Sorry for tuning in at the end Havs, my bad on the jinx.
-
Kick out Iowa State...how in the eff do you blow this game.
-
Ain't no way the refs let KU lose this game.
-
damn
-
i rough ridin' hate them
-
Should we just give KU the Big 12 title every year until the conference dissolves?
-
I am still in awe that ISU didn't foul at the end of regulation. Unbelievable.
-
:tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc: :tsc:

Rock chalk!

is this the ugliest team ever, or is it just EJ bringing the average down really low?
-
is this the ugliest team ever, or is it just EJ bringing the average down really low?
B-Mac is dreamy
-
This is why KU is Ku is Iowa is Iowa St
Like mentioned, anytime there is under 10 secs, u should pressure 3/4 court, switch all screens, and foul when they get just over halfcourt
Even if they make both FTs, u only make 1 FT..... there would prob be under 5 secs to go length of court to try and get a 2 to tie
Im not that mad, cause KU is gonna win the conf and any loss Isu has just helps us in the conf standings. Just shows Hoiberg is still very green as a HC.
-
is this the ugliest team ever, or is it just EJ bringing the average down really low?
B-Mac is dreamy
really the only one keeping the debate alive, or else it would be an overwhelming "yes".
-
And theres Matt putting down our team and pumping up oscar, just like oscar drew it up.
-
ISU, is there a more hapless bunch of lovable losers?
-
Too lazy to look, but I bet Cyclonefanatic is a treat right now.

not really. we'd be way more butthurt under similar circumstances.

Thunderstruck is their sandstorm.
-
Too lazy to look, but I bet Cyclonefanatic is a treat right now.
Fred is a Rhoads over there. Actually sucks but has pretended to like Iowa so they all defend him.
One guy actually said fouling was wrong call because odds of a 3 vs a guy making his first FT then missing the second then KU rebounding it then making a 2 to tie were the same
-
How many more things can Iowa State be average at? They had a chance to get over the hump tonight, but instead failed
-
lol
-
CLAMS GAME NOTES:
crazy to think ku hasn't lost their opening conference game since 92
good win for lil bro
isu's offense is hilarious

ya but their offense, it's extra funny to me- I guess it's because they're I$U
-
Too lazy to look, but I bet Cyclonefanatic is a treat right now.
I honestly think Iowa State is the only team thats going to challenge KU this year in conference. Maybe K-State or Baylor, but nobody in the Big 12 is going to get close to winning at KU like we did tonight. If we win tonight I guarantee we start 5-0, maybe 6-0 in conference. I hope this game makes our guys real mad and real hungry. I hope we beat Texas by 30+ saturday.
Regardless, I think either Iowa State or KU wins the big 12 this year.
-
is that your quote limestone?
-
This game means nothing. If anything, it just motivates us to rip this whole league up from here on out.
-
is that your quote limestone?
no luke
-
Time to hang another banner, boys. Rock chalk! :tsc:
-
Prob belongs in a different thread but the janitors from my highrise are really pumping up ISU on social media.
-
Hoiberg thinks Huggy should have just fouled Texas......LOL.... (UT down 3 with 5.6 sec left.... UT drilled a 3 to force OT)
OK, so fouling may have been more difficult for WV there, but you have to switch every pick in that situation. UT ran pick and there was no switch, and the screener (Holmes) came open and had a pretty decent look.

Are there numerous examples out there of teams fouling and then it not working? I mean last night we have 2 examples in the Big 12 where not fouling down 3 leads to OT.

Chris Merriweather says hi! :eye:
Yeah, that one I remembered... and we still won.
I'm especially trying to think of times where teams lost the game or went on to lose the game. I remember hearing about one high school game where the team fouled up by 3 and then the opponent made a FT then tipped the miss out for a 3 to win, but I don't remember other examples.
-
ISU looks good. They are going to be tough to beat.
Nope, they'll finish lower half and will be a 3 seed in the NIT.

Not trying to argue here or anything, but IMO if the ref calls the foul on Denis we win in regulation and beat Butler, too.

Nope, they'll finish lower half and will be a 3 seed in the NIT.
RPI is about 63 right now, only 1 bad loss (Iowa), they'll be tough at home (so they'll get some top 60 wins, KSU, OSU, Baylor, OU), and have enough that they can beat one of those teams on the road. we'll see.
-
Butler was tie game with 3 minutes left. We were drained. Shot 39% from the field that afternoon, only 50% from FT. Team was dog tired.
-
Guys, let's face it. If that dumbass ref does his job and blows his rough ridin' whistle on Denis, we win the national championship, Frank is still coach and recruiting better, and we are gearing up for another national championship run this year. It's 100% and we should just find that rough ridin' ref and give him what he deserves. And that's a good ass kicking.

Agreed, we'd played a pud Michigan State team and a Duke team that dodged a last second shot to win it. Ok, maybe we don't win it all but that 3OT game cost us a lot.

Okay so you don't agree, good.

The game was not tied with three minutes left. I think the fatigue of the team is much more attributable to working as hard as they did to come back in the Butler game than the few extra minutes of basketball 2 days before.
Playing those overtimes against Xavier certainly didn't help us but to say we would have won is absurd. Butler went 2-1 in a span of 4 games against 3 of the 5 best teams in the country using the exact same formula, it worked against us just as it did against Syracuse and very nearly Duke. Michigan State had no chance, Butler was better than them in all facets.

i think the xavier ot's took more of a mental toll than a physical one. i do think we would've had a better shot at winning if that game didn't go into overtime. it was all people could talk about and think about for two days. greatest game ever, etc and such a feeling of accomplishment like they really had just won something that i think there was little bit of a let down. win in regulation and thoughts are immediately on the next game. who knows though. prob still lose.

The Butler runs are the equivalent of 2011/12 KSU football. Its consistency, execution, and not making/taking advantage of opponent mistakes. A million teams think they should've beat them but they consistently couldn't.
-
The game was not tied with three minutes left.
Yeah, about that...
3:35 Matt Howard missed Free Throw. 54-52
3:35 54-52 Rodney McGruder Defensive Rebound.
3:06 54-54 Denis Clemente made Two Point Jumper.
2:49 Gordon Hayward made Two Point Layup. 56-54
2:41 Kansas State 30 Second Timeout.

They did that, but they did it with 2 NBA draft picks, including a lottery pick.
-
Also, someone was trying to tell me that Butler's team that year was less talented than ours. I think the top 10 draft pick and the 246 NBA games that Heyward and Mack have played in compared to the zero NBA games our team's players have played in contradict that opinion, but who knows. Maybe all the real talent plays professionally overseas these days. Wait, Howard and Veasley did that too? Hmm...

Completely changes the point, nevermind. Sorry I forgot about the 55 seconds the game was tied, I was thinking about the other 39 minutes and 5 seconds of Butler leading, my bad.

No counter-PI at all, Emo is 100% correct. It's perfectly rational and well-reasoned to think that an officials no call in a game that Butler didn't even play in was the biggest factor that helped them go to back-to-back final fours. Also rational to chalk up a team losing a game, in which they never lead and were only tied in for less than a minute, to fatigue from a game 2 days earlier. Furthermore, it should be perfectly acceptable to attribute the fatigue to a missed call instead of a subsequent bonehead play or inability to win the game in overtimes 1 or 2.
Had no idea what I was thinking Emo EMAW, sorry dude, we were robbed.

Straw man after straw man argument.
Did I ever say the no call was "the biggest factor" of anything? No.
Attribute the fatigue to whatever you want, missed call or bonehead play, I don't care. I'm assuming you watched the game and saw the ridiculous prayer threes that those two X players (Longford and Holloway or something like that?) were draining? One after another, from beyond NBA distance, was incredible.
The players themselves admitted to not getting any sleep that night. I think there's a good chance we win that game in less dramatic fashion, in regulation, and the team is able to do better than their worst FG and FT shooting performance of the year (totally didn't look that up but sounds plausible).

I'm okay with you skipping the growing list of excuses and just go with the team that had a lottery pick and went to back-to-back final fours was better than us that night.
Funny, I've never read anyone willing to give the BYU game back because they played an overtime game before they played us. They weren't nearly as deep.
-
K-State can beat both of these teams. Neither has beat anyone good, both have struggled or lost to teams in the same category or worse than K-State.
Parking lot on the silly bitch fight.

I'm with MIR on this one, although I do think it's funny that he won't admit to being wrong about the game being tied with 3 minutes left.
It's dumb to say they were tired. I don't care what the coaches said. I guarantee they had practices just as difficult as a 2OT game two days before games throughout the year. We made fun of all the football fans last year who wouldn't admit that we were just better than them, and now we're saying the same thing about 2010 Butler.
-
Sorry I forgot about the 55 seconds the game was tied, I was thinking about the other 39 minutes and 5 seconds of Butler leading, my bad.

Sorry, I assumed that was a sarcastic apology. Like you were dismissing it because it didn't matter when compared to the rest of the game.

Well it didn't, but that doesn't change the fact that I actually did forget the game was tied twice for a total of 55 seconds including 17 seconds with 3 minutes left in the game. The 55 seconds is an illustrative device to show that we weren't very close to winning that game. I do remember us fighting like hell to get back in the game however I thought we only got within 2 with the ball. I'm wrong about 4 times a year, I have no problem admitting error when I'm usually around 67,996 for 68,000

Whatever they are using as a "dB meter" is not using a logarithmic scale.

is it A weighted? C weighted? these are what enquiring minds would want to know. 3dB doubling rule? log base 10. come on guys let's talk dB's. also maybe they're using HL and not SPL. crazy i know, but possible? they are jayhawks after all.

Well, log base 10 would be 3dB doubling. Also, some highly scientific internet research tells me that Quest Field in Seattle is supposedly the loudest stadium in the NFL and it has been recorded at 116 dB, so KU is trying to say they regularly get 3 or 4 times as loud as a stadium that has 3 or 4 times as many people. Color me dubious.

maybe stop underestimating the passion ku fans have for their team
is that...thunder i hear coming from Lawrence??? It certainly could be, or it could also be the roaring KU crowd after a clutch layup from fan favorite Jeff Withey. The point of all of this is that thunder and the KU fans are both really loud.
-
Did the Seahawks put their measurement device right in front of a set of speakers that were cranked up as loud as they could go and then placed in front of a microphone to make it even louder blaring THUNDER louder than it's ever been blared? I didn't think so. And the crowd was going nuts. Loudest venue ever, bar none.

Here is how you beat KU:
Lock down on McLemore: He'll of course get his points but you've absolutely got to make some on else beat you.
Get Withey out of the paint: Shane could be big in order to spread the floor.
I'm not all that concerned about Releford or Young. They are both fine role players. Young gets most of his stuff off of cleaning up the offensive glass and doesn't have much confidence shooting the ball anything outside of 12-15 feet. Releford is a pretty good (but streaky) shooter from outside, but I feel like he is their fourth best option offensively.
Angel/Doc/Marty have to be on their A game defensively against McLemore and Johnson. The last three games I've seen, Johnson has been somewhat careless with the ball. With Angel pressuring, big key is without fouling, then I think we can speed him up and turn them over. However, when you speed up the game with KU they can exploit your pressure and break the pressure with lobs over the top. I remember last year in the game at OOD they must have had close to double digit lobs for either dunks or easy layups. Staying in front is key.
I think to beat KU you make Withey and Young beat you. While Withey is a dominant defensive player, his back to the basket game still isn't totally developed. Granted, I haven't seen all of the Big 12 teams play extensively. But I can't think of any other players that are as well equipped to guard Withey as JO. Only issue, is can he play more than 20 minutes without fouling out. Because I'm not sure he can. KU's depth doesn't concern me much at all Tharpe can penetrate as well as shoot a little from outside, but I am not too concerned with him on the offensive end. Perry Ellis and Traylor are the only two bigs that play significant minutes of the bench. Ellis, stealing a term from dlew here, has shown to be an unconfident loser thus far.
Offensively for the Cats, it'll be tough. Gotta get Rod going of course, and Angel needs to be agressive attacking the basket but he can't afford bad decisions. Last year he was awful against KU, not scoring a point and having 7 TOs.
Shane is definitely the straw that stirs the drink offensively this game. If he can open up the middle of the lane for driving and cutting.
Should be a tight game. Could be a top ten matchup (!).

This is that stretch where KU looks mortal up until they don't and dominate the conference. I would love to play them in that stretch but Self, as does Snyder, knows in-state games are important even if the other team isn't very good.

Here is how it will go for me. Think we have no chance starting now, confidence will rise in the next few wins, few days before the game I will convince myself we have a legit shot, melt down when we get taint pushed.

I'm not concerned as much about KU's offense as I'm concerned about our ability to score.

If a top ten team loses by 20 at home in conference and a national audience didn't see it, did it really happen?

So KU will probably lose all five starters at the end of the year. Will they finish first in the league in 2014, or will they slide to tied for ffirst? :tsc:

Why is it pronounced MacLemore?

will they ever call the travel on his step back threes. :horrorsurprise:

No, no. Scottie's going to beam up some coaching'em up at halftime.

Both of these teams rough ridin' suck. Every time Baylor takes to the rim they get tackled. On defense baylor's bigs looks like moths with that area under the basket the fluorescent light. Kevin Young slapping the eff out of everyone is the highlight of the game. That and the dozen times Isiah Austin has stuffed whity.

FWIW, phog quoting Self as saying it's a sprain and McLemore will be good to go with a few days' rest. :dunno:
-
Time after time, a Baylor player would do something that would have any other coach in the nation bench him (give up inside position on the defensive board, throw a lazy pass in front of the defense), and Drew would let them play on.
Player's coach, I guess.
-
Mclemore is injured in Self's pursuit to shamelessly run up the score.
Sad, really.
