Sydney is a great name.

Very unisex. Goes well with a boy or girl, IMO. I know a few Sydneys of each gender, and they seem to like their names.

For me, Sydney would have to be a boy's name.

BTW, Sydney goes great with my last name.  The male heir to my empire will have to be named Sydney.

I have a really good friend named Julie but (no disrespect intended toward her) I think that the name "Julie" has outlived its usefulness.  That said, my apologies to anyone here named Julie. You were named that a long time ago. Not your fault.

Sydney, whenever you feel unhappy
All you have to do is call me
I can make you laugh
Sydney, I know that you were wrongly accused
I hope you don't lose your sense of humor
Allegations made in the school yard
Soccer moms gossip in the dog park
Their bark is worse then their bite
They're only a couple of crazy cougars
They're bored and spreading their desperate rumors

You know that I was never that cool
But I won't be taken for a fool
If they wanna talk trash
They can talk, talk, talk
But they better come correct
And if you ever need me, call me
I'll come runnin' straight to you

Straight from the airport
(I'll come runnin')
Cut through the customs line
(I'll come runnin')
Bust down the courthouse doors
(I'll come runnin')
Sydney, I will testify
(I'll come runnin')
Sydney, I will testify to ya

I've never been a fan of names that could be either a boys name or a girls name.  Everyone always thinks they're the first person to ask you if you ever saw the "Pat" skit on SNL. Yeah, I've seen it. Why should I change my name, it's the skit that sucks.

Anyway, my wife was insistent on giving our daughter a boy's name, so I've mellowed on the name thing.

About 95% of boys names are androgynous.  I've been thinking about it for like, 20 seconds so far and the only definite boy's name i can think of is "michael."

EDIT:  Also John and Jerry.

EDIT II: Mark

EDIT III: Thomas and Isaac

My 95% figure may have been a little too large, but the point remains, there are a lot of solid names that can be used as either a boy or girl's name.

They're always Texas cities like:

Dallas =  :barf:
Houston =   :rolleyes:
Austin =   :nono:
Katy = lol, gross, no
Bryan = who spells it that way?
Flower Mound = may be an exception to the rule as this is awesome

not really a fair rule, if you were the founder of a city you could just name it some name to ruin some name people wanted for a baby name.

Welcome to John, Kansas. 2nd Best City.
