FTR was really what kept OSU's offense going in the 2nd half. Looking at their season stats I was surprised because it hasn't been a strength for them; Brown, Nash, and Smart are all really good at getting to the rim. Not sending teams to the line has been a strong part of our defense as well.
The 2nd half K-State really got back to our identity; offensive boarding, forcing TOs, and not giving up easy shots (though again we fouled a lot). And of course Rod going off didn't hurt, he was just spectacular. Overall very nice to get 1.07 PPP against a pretty good defensive team, and especially to shoot 50.8% (51.2% on 2PTers).
It was nice for Rodney to bail us out, but that's a night in/night out strategy to win. We've simply got to get better play (scoring/shooting) from Will, Angel, and Tay. JO has to avoid letting players get into his body and give up fouls which he did several times today.
Its nice to start with a win and play with energy. While we've got to be more balanced, we are definitely a tournament team if we consistently play with that kind of energy.

unreal our defense held them to under 1 PPP.
We are so incredibly lazy. Do you see it yet?

I think you are over playing that a bit. It isn't quite Frank level, but I thought our defensive energy was fine, especially in the 2nd half. Its possible you are just so used to a ridiculous amount of defensive energy from Frank. :dunno:

It's not that I'm really expecting intensity, I'm just expecting them more than zero effort. I'm expecting them to provide more than a jog in transition and not allow multiple dunks off the dribble in the half court. That first dunk JO actually backed away. Or that time where there was a loose ball and Gip was just standing under our own basket watching. Or letting someone behind our defense off a MADE FREE THROW. Things like that just piss me off so much. They are my backdoor layups.

Yeah, I agree on the transition defense not being very good today (and other times this year) and not going after every 50/50 ball. I think overall its okay, but there are certainly moments of lacking.
-
yeah, it's the transition d that looks so, so lazy. that and the occasional not rotating an interior help guy over to at least foul or intimidate a little on a blow by from the 3 pt line.
-
it maybe looks lazier than it actually is, if that makes sense. because there are plays when they just completely give up.

I do. It's easy to see. We give up layups or back doors or drives to the bucket from laziness rather than over aggressiveness.

FAN was spot when he said 70 pts would win this game.
1st half was ugly for the starting backcourt. 1-11 FG, while everyone else was 10-15. Add in the 8 TOs and only 24 OR% and its amazing we were down 2 at half
2nd half, its pretty sweet when you get more 3 pointers from Rod (5) than TOs from the team (4). We forced 8 TOs in 2nd half and hit the Off boards as was mentioned.
Rod 10-13 and 5-5 after the break
We took a 6 pt lead (51-45) with 12 minutes to go and never gave the lead back to Osu. Tie game at 64 and Rod hits back to back 3s.... reminding me of the "Bigshot Rod" from last year

yeah. Like, at first I hated the way we guard ball screens - it just seems like it should be easy to destroy it, but college teams aren't good enough to really exploit it.

Help can be lacking at times, but to be fair Nash, Brown, and Smart really good at getting to the rim quickly. Smart is just a complete stud, and Brown was fantastic today too.

First 8 minutes, i was not liking what i was seeing. We were down 16-12, and OKST was 6-10 (including 3 dunks) and 1-1 from 3pt.
Rest of the game they were 14-39 (36%) and 2-10 3pt (20%) and we forced 12 TOs in 56 poss (21.4 TO%) and only gave up 4 off rebs........ Will take

Liked how gip played in the second

I don't think it's a lack of energy or effort, I think they are playing looser and adjusting to webers defense. They're still thinking a little at times instead of just playing, but they're not playing tight

Outside of Kansas and possibly Baylor 70 should win most games. The Big 12 has become what people think the Big 10 is, a lot of low possession plodding. Frankly its a troubling trend all over CBB.
