Title: Ford's Cowboys
Post by: kso_FAN on January 05, 2013, 09:43:19 AM
Ford has completely changed his team, or probably more importantly Marcus Smart has changed his team. They've gone from a decent/mediocre defensive team to one of the best in the country, specifically teams shoot really poorly against them (especially on 2PT shots) and they block a high percentage of shots. And teams have a really low percentage of assists to made shots, which could be somewhat random but has to at least be in part attributed to the defense.

Most importantly Ford probably has two pros on the floor most of the time, and in many games the 2 best players on the floor in Nash and Smart. I'm not sure Ford is a great coach by any means, but having really good players is the biggest part of being a good coach. I think the youth and lack of depth could be an advantage for us if we get a balanced game like the Florida game. Plus, they haven't played anyone as good as our top 3 opponents and they've only played true road game, losing to a mediocre Virginia Tech. Finally, they aren't a very good defensive rebounding game, which is by far the strength of our team on offense. Pace-wise, they play about like us, I'd expect a low to mid 60s possession game with 70 points being plenty to win.

If Angel and Tay are close to 100%, I think K-State wins. 68-63 Cats.

don't sleep on brown.  he adds a third guard option, i'm not as concerned with smart scoring as brown.  problem they have is that the cowboys, as  a team, can't shoot for crap.

if we rebound the ball and we should be ok.

Nash just faked getting hit in the face with an elbow.  Trash person, do not like.

He has 0 control over Nash.  It's painful to watch.  Once again GIA will provide no home court advantage and Marcus Smart's one year will be wasted. He'll be just good enough to make the tournament and buy himself one more year.

i'm just never wrong, mir.  it really doesn't matter if i see the teams or not.  it's strange, but true.

If you just judge results these are two games that they could lose and still finish 2nd. I'm alarmed by how they looked these two games and how much of a head case Nash has been.  He melted a bit in conference play last year too but i gave him the benefit of the doubt of another year of maturity.  I was mainly bullish on them because of Smart and he's been even better than I thought he'd be in conference play.  They also need to get Forte more shots but they have a lot of ball stoppers on that team.
