Jeez, man, even mid majors have a couple of guards that are super dribblers.

Teams don't need dribblers.  They need confidence, swagger, and a solid understanding of the three man weave.

would any of the HBBIQrs want to dribble into this thread and "drop a dime" of their knowledge, in terms of our need for better dribblers?

Do we need better dribblers, or faster dribblers that can shoot better?

I liked watching Denis + Jake dribble. Remember that time we were about to lose @ Iowa State, and Jake dribbled off his knee and scored the GW layup? Who could possibly even dream about doing that on this team?

i posit that having both wouldn't hurt us in any way.  do you have any data though to back me up?  i know i'm just spitballing.

I would be fine if oscar recruited 2 or 3 guys like Jake Pullen.

is he your baseline "good dribbler"  - where and how do we start measuring this stuff?

orange cone drill?  recruit must pass a orange cone drill in under <insert time here> before scholarship offer is made?

oscar on Recruiting Trail: "will you play in the NIT?"
Possible Pullzish 'cruit: "No"
oscar to him self: (attitude problems) - "well be in touch. say nope to dope"

I like scorers who can dribble.

Guys, I read a thread on another board where they said that the Oregon State hoops team (once back in the 1970s) played an entire half of basketball and did not dribble one time. Just crisp chest passes from player to player in a seamless offensive flow.

I think this is the sort of offensive scheme we should pursue (dribbling is superfluous / overrated, imho). Crisp passes are what we need.

mods, can you edit this thread to read "dobbers" instead of "dribblers" throughout the thread. I think it would raise awareness for the need of a better dobber.

Short answer, no.

Long answer, based on all of oscar weber's coaching history dating back to recruiting at purdue for senor comb over and as a head coach at Illinois and SIU, he absolutely will not recruit what he needs.  I'm pretty sure he has a subscription to rivals and will recruit as many top 100 wings as he can with no ball handling skills and try to make them point guards.  When he can't land those kids he'll start pulling in obscure no name point guards from BFE that no one has heard of.

My junior high school coach tried this approach. Although we passed crisply, it failed. We lost a lot of games, but were too young to rebel and take over. We really sucked. I regret it to this day.
