Title: favorite christmas movie
Post by: OK_Cat on December 21, 2012, 02:07:08 PM
didn't want to mess up the favorite christmas commercial thread.

christmas vacation has to be #1 on everybody's list unless you hate america.

they're making a new "vacation" movie soon.  ed helms will be playing rusty, who is now the father.  chevy chase and whats-her-face will be the grandparents.  seems like it might work, maybe.

I'm not sure how or why "Elf" has made it to the ranks of a classic christmas movie, but I highly dislike that fact.

I'm not sure how or why "Elf" has made it to the ranks of a classic christmas movie, but I highly dislike that fact.

Why? Because it's less than 10 years old?

Christmas Vacation

Funny story about It's A Wonderful Life. For starters, it did not get good reviews when it came out, and didn't really do anything in the box office. Years later, when the film company forgot about it and stopped renewing it's rights (by accident, I believe) a TV station swooped in a got it for free. They decided to air it around Christmas, and for some reason people started liking it because they thought it was a classic. No, it was just old. And boring. And Jimmy Stewart has the most annoying voice of any actor ever. He even ruined a couple Hitchcock movies for me with his voice.

Everyone hated Christmas Vacation when it came out.  (Probably because it's crap suck town compared to the original.) Now, I keep seeing people saying they like it.  I guess the mean has regressed to it.

Yeah, yeah. I did it all wrong. I cry when George is running through town hugging everyone and then all the way through to the end. Sometimes, when I watch it I start crying at the very beginning, because it just so great and gives me the best warm and fuzzy.

Although it's not so much a Christmas movie, "Donovan's Reef" has a couple of excellent Christmas-based scenes. Nothing like The Duke and Lee Marvin at Christmas. That said, from a pure Christmas point of view. it's hard to beat "Polar Express."
