Personally, I'm a backwards seat guy. Not sure why, but it's kinda cool to watch out the window at the stuff you've already gone by, kinda like time travel maybe?? who knows. :driving: <---but sitting backwards with no wheel or gearshifter.

I don't know. never ridden a passenger train. You might be the only one.
-
Forward seat guy here

It the weather is nice I prefer the open-air car, leaning on the rail.

Are we counting monorails? Light rail? Trams?

didn't consider this. I usually stand on airport trams to avoid the awkward offering of the seat to the old person or lady or whatever. on the disney monorail I sit where there is availability the furthest away from the worst looking children.

Forward guy too. You can see the faces of everyone walking past and give them a nod if u like their style.

Hmm. I rode in a sleeper car across Thailand once, but that was a long time ago and maybe wasn't a great comparison for quality trains. I'm taking a train to Alexandria next week. I will probably try backward facing.

Yeah. This part is going to suck. I had to wait at the airport for an hour the other night, and there's not a single bar in the place. May bring my own?

Friday night Acela from Boston to NYC is intense binging.

rode in an amtrak train from kansas city to garden city once when i was like a freshman in high school. got stuck next to an old mennonite guy that talked the whole time. wanted to kill myself.

Faced forwards on a train from Berlin to Amsterdam. Pretty boring part of the world, terrain-wise. Would consider backwards next time.

i can think of a few hundred people who would have been ok with that.

Trains are great. Forward or backward looking, doesn't matter to me. Just as long as I'm there.
-
hmm, i didn't even think about sleeper cars. i'm sorry saul.
poll applies to all types of trains (amtrack, subway, tram, etc.)
when i was in late grade school (6th probably), i took a train with my grandparents from denver to san diego, then up to san francisco, then up to portland, and eventually back down to denver. it was like a month long vacation over the summer and it was pertty awesome. one of the best memories of my childhood. i was a bit too young back then to know about how awesome backwards seats were though :frown:
