And no, this doesn't mean I want Underwood. I do not.

Yep. I think Underwood would have kept us tough at least.

Yeah.  I wouldn't have been happy, but I don't think I would be doing what I am doing now.

Yep. I think Underwood would have kept us tough at least.

This year would've been better with Underwood, I have little doubt about that.

We might still have 2 losses, but we wouldn't have looked completely outclassed against Michigan and Gonzaga in the 2nd half. People would be hopeful right now about Underwood finishing in the Top 3 or 4 of a down Big 12.

Underwood would have kept the offense that Rodney and JO thrived in and that Angel looked to have so much potential in.

Yeah, which is what I thought oscar would be able to do, I guess. so maybe I'm wrong.

oscar needed to win right away to keep #BiD from completely abandoning mbb.  We'd still be saying, "We expected him to do well this season." But my God, he's worse than we thought. And we thought he was terrible.

Exactly. Like I said before, my biggest fear was that Weber would do pretty well this year, earning basically a blank trust-check from the donors/AD for another six years as he bled the program dry.

So I guess we should be "happy" that that fear appears to be unwarranted? :dunno:

I'd rather go 2-10 twice and fire a guy and move on than go 5-7 or 6-6 for five consecutive years. Of course the 2-10 years suck while they're happening, but they're for the greater good.

Can't do it. Do you watch us and cheer for the other team? Inside do you get happier when Angel misses a shot or Rodney sucks 24/7? I see the logic, don't get me wrong.

No, it's purely from a logical standpoint. I still get pissed/frustrated during the games themselves. The happiness comes retroactively, if at all.

also re:underwood- it was one of those things that you're like "well it's just crazy enough that it could work i guess". i would've low balled him an offer like we did with frank and then gave him a bunch of cash to use on assistants.

We got Ronnie fired after 3 years when he easily couldve been bowl eligible for all 3 if he didn't over schedule in the non-con.  Just takes some real vitriol from all parts of the fanbase.

Ron embarrassed himself nine times against NU/KU/MU, pissed off a lot of donors, and coaches football (not basketball).

It will take more fail in bball to get crap done quickly.

I don't know how you can want the team to win yet want oscar to fail and get fired.  I don't see how that works.  Once I reached the point I was certain Weber had to go I had to stopping caring about Illinois hoops.  Didn't watch it all.  Just checked in to see if we lost and thankfully oscar came through for me more often than not.  All it did was piss me off to even think about it let alone watch a game.  You can't support something you're burning the eff down.  Paradoxical.  Point being, you have to stop caring to truly burn it down I think.

I'm with _FAN and sd in that I can't watch a game and actively root for the opposition. But I think it's possible to stop watching and not be as unhappy when you see emaw lose like Bread just said. I'm currently doing that with my undergrad school and their garbage coach. It's the last year of his contract and the more he loses, the more likely it is that he'll be gone. I'm not sad about that.

Wooly had teams that were almost there. They were just one key piece away from being competitive Big 12 basketball teams. They never made the NIT, but they got snubbed a couple of times. This team is a dumpster fire. They were a second round NCAA team last season and are most likely NIT bound. Next year, we are probably back to getting snubbed by the NIT. Wooly wasn't really any better, but this is harder to watch because we have a tournament-caliber roster.

That's why I couldn't watch any more.  I never rooted for losses.  I just had to turn my back on it until it was over.  I didn't reach that point until last season.  We had just hired a new AD and I knew that if oscar didn't win he'd be out.  Once we started losing in earnest I walked away and waited for the coaching search.  Before that it simply wasn't an option so I persevered.  The old AD was going to keep Weber around as long as he was there.

The old AD was going to keep Weber around as long as he was there.

So its official. John Tucker Currie must Die Go. So what big schools are opening up? Any chances we could create an account on the Ladders or something and get him hired somewhere else.

I'll just cosign everything Mr Bread said. Last year was very hard for me and many die-hard Illini fans. I literally stopped watching and I literally didn't even know when they were playing. Didn't care. Too painful to care. And I have been a huge UI BB fan since the late 80s. For me to not even know when the Illini were scheduled to play is absurd.

If you aren't already, many KSU fans will be actively rooting for losses.

It's a sick way to go about being a fan, but you eventually come to the realization it's what's necessary to move the program forward.

Illini fans sympathize with you guys. Reading this board is like entering a time machine back to last season and reading Illinois boards. Some posts are almost word-for-word describing their disgust.

I want to use this opportunity to beg forgiveness from Sys for not being in the burn it down camp from the get go.  I thought we should give the guy time to see if he had learned anything from his Illinois failure  and could salvage the Currie hiring fiasco.  What a dolt I was and what a crap coach Weber is.

I remember briefly the morning Weber was hired there was a brief rumor that it was going to be Alford. Almost forgot about that.

I wanted Underwood for 1 or 2 years as a "Calm the waters/Keep players from bailing on us" type of coach with Gottlieb as HCIW.

If you are calming waters on a temp basis only, it can only be for a oscar Pearl type.

The best part about the Alford rumor was that it was nothing but a hopeful reaction Weber getting leaked 30 minutes earlier.  That's how bad the Weber hire was, that when it first leaked someone made up "It's Alford" and our fans were so hopeful that "It's Alford" stuck as realistic for 30 minutes because it would have been so much better than Weber it had to be true.  No way we could probably have Alford and took oscar.  Even our hopeful wish candidate was so bad it elicited the responses in that thread.

I remember being with other EMAWs, hearing "It's Weber", thinking no rough ridin' way, then being releaved the rumor got it wrong and it was Alford.

The moment Weber was announced as coach there was a collective chortle from WSU fans in Wichita.  Now it's full blown guffaws

Can we just have Frank back?

Could not be happier than if Ashton Kutcher jumped out right before the OSU game and told us all we were being Punk'd and that we should all watch the new season of the show and that it will be great due to the time off, even though we would all know that the new show wouldn't be great.
