http://www.wibw.com/home/localnews/headlines/Authorities-On-Scene-Og-Shooting-At-Grocery-Store-In-Topeka-183724341.html
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Police confirmed Sunday night that two officers have died after being shot while responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle at a Dillons grocery store in central Topeka.
CPL David Gogian and Officer Jeff Atherly were both killed in the line of duty.
Police are currently looking for David Edward Tiscareno, 22, of Topeka. He is believed to be armed and extremely dangerous.
Earlier Information
OFC Jeff Atherly (left), CPL David Gogian (right)
Three officers responded to 1400 SW Huntoon St. on reports of a suspicious vehicle sometime after 6:09 p.m.
While details of what transpired when the officers arrived on scene were not immediately released, police confirmed that two of the three officers responding were shot.
At 8:30 p.m. Topeka Police said that both officers sustained life-threatening injuries.
Following the shooting, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies responded. The parking lot of the Dillons store was roped off as a crime scene.
Authorities surrounded a home in the 400 block of Buchanan in Topeka Sunday during the 8 p.m. hour, where two suspects connected to the shooting were believed to be.
A SWAT team was on scene.
The suspect vehicle was located at the house. It was searched and the suspect was not located.
Authorities told 13 News the scene was cleared by 9:30 p.m. and another location was being investigated.
Police were surrounding an area near 12th and Topeka Boulevard in the 9 p.m. hour Sunday. 13's Justin Surrency reported a SWAT Team huddled in the parking lot of Capitol Federal Savings. He reported hearing guns being loaded.
Because Topeka Police Officers were involved in the shooting Sunday night, the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office was taking over the investigation.
More information:
A witness told 13 News the shooting happened just outside the entrance of Dillons. The witness said he heard three gun clips emptied- then heard another series of shots.
A neighbor told Ann Bush, of the Topeka Capital-Journal, that he heard several shots. The neighbor said he looked out the window and saw an officer shot on the ground. The same neighbor told Bush he saw another officer standing near with hands on his head.
Bush was posting updates from the scene to her Twitter account Sunday night.
Topeka Councilman Chad Manspeaker took to Twitter following the shooting Sunday.
"Appears there has been a shooting at Dillons in our neighborhood," Manspeaker said on Twitter around 6:35 p.m. "Sheriffs, TPD, Troopers and Topeka Fire all on the scene at Dillons. Customers locked in the store. Parking lot a crime scene."
About an hour later he said," I am speechless. That Dillon's is a safe place. My heart hurts for our emergency responders."

well being that 2 cops are dead, and one dirty bag is dead at Dollar General, I think the evidence points towards another conclusion.

The guy walks into the store and executed the clerk and an 80 yr old man. I've heard the shooter did this for a gang initiation.

Anyway, used to live a few blocks from that Dillons.

really is on the border of good and 'okay' Topeka. You start heading east and a bit north into those president streets, and it gets rough, ie: where the suspect's buddies were hold up at 4th and Buchanan.

I had the pleasure of meeting both Gogian and Atherly while I worked for the TPD. This sucks.

Can we spread the multiple death penalty convictions out between him and his homies? Or is it totally not cool to cover for each other like that??
-
isolated incident, don't worry about it
-
sounds like they got him.
-
Yeah seems like they got him. The area of Topeka where they found him is fantastic.
And to the above, hopefully they can link the homies to some other felony in progress when the cops were killed so they too can be charged with the death of the cops.

Dollar General is way more dangerous IMO.
In a previously retail-oriented career, Brock Landers managed a Dollar General over in east Topeka. I was there less than a year and my store was robbed at gunpoint 3 times. The third time I had a gun pressed into the back of my head. Good times.

You had the opportunity to do that move they do in the movies where you simultaneously throw your arm up and spin into them, thus knocking the gun out of the robber's hand, then you kick the robber in the balls and do a pile driver on top of his head, retrieve the gun, point it at the robber and say, "NOT IN MY DOLLAR GENERAL!," and you let it go? What is wrong with you. You would have been such a hero!
Also, that is scary crap. My bro had a gun pointed at him by a robber. Two weeks later, the same guys shot and killed the manager of a different store.

The guy only got away with a couple hundred bucks or so. I did a fine job of not pissing/shitting myself and established some street cred in the process. Next time someone pulls a gun on me I can use the badass movie line "I hate to disappoint you but this isn't the first time I've had a gun pointed at me."
Ha, just kidding I would probably soil myself. That whole area of Topeka shopping plaza should just be burnt to the ground.

I have no clue what I'd do in that situation. You are brave. crap I start crapping my pants just imagining how I would deal with someone breaking into my house.

Know a person who was in the Dillons at the time. At the checkout counter. She heard two "pops" Turned and through the long plate glass that extends from ceiling to floor, saw the guy unload 11, 12 shots into the two officers on the ground. She said they were dead right there. Ambulance and revival were formalities.
Spent an hour locked in the store, and 2 hours at the Topeka LEC being interviewed. When she found out the dude was dirt napped by the KBI this AM, she breathed a sigh of relief. Was worried she'd have to testify in court.

That all happened three blocks from my apartment. I headed back to MHK last night and actually stopped at a one car accident on the North side of that dillons. Heard the news an hour after it happened. Terrible terrible stuff. It's called ghetto dillons for a reason.
My friend turned to me last night and said that this guy wouldn't make it through the night. Woke up to a text confirming her speculation. I'm glad he's dead. I'm glad a fellow cop took him out.
I feel so bad for the families of these police officers. If anyone finds a better account of what happened, I'd be curious to know.

I hope the cop that took him out did so completely unnecessarily.
-
KBI hit squad did it so TPD didn't get all the scrutiny.

My gut tells me a less lethal shot was probably possible, but why bother? I figured necessary or not, he would be shot dead and a scenario to justify it would be constructed. I'm ok with that.
-
Dude aparently came out of the house carrying a gun. Only reason you do that is to maybe take a few last shots before they gun you down. Guess it saved the taxpayers some money. :dunno:
-
from the video here...sounds like he shot himself...then the KBI filled him with bullets.

suicide or suicide by cop works for me.
Would still like to know if his two buddies are also fine up standing members of society.

Didn't one of the articles say they were released without being charged with any crimes? That had to be one mumped up situation for those guys. If they honestly were totally innocent dudes and then they guy in the back seat starts shooting cops in the head?! Guess that's why he ended up driving away...
-
Now that I think about it a bit more, those dudes must have been innocent as hell. You know the cops wanted to charge them with anything and everything, considering the two dead officers involved.
-
probably.
I'm still really rough ridin' confused on how this POS got the drop on these cops. One cop to the driver's side, one cop on the back passenger corner.
-
Good for the KBI for pumping his head full of hollowpoints. Worthless POS
-
probably.

I hadn't heard the specifics. Both head shots, too, correct? That does sound pretty damn difficult. Not saying that this has anything to do with that case but I watched a TV special on the increasing difficulty police are having with returning vets and violent, gang related crimes. Guess they relaxed the admission requirements and gangs are a big problem in the enlisted ranks, both before enlisting and after. They highlighted one dude who killed some people at a C-store and then shot it out with LEOs for quite a while. They had a Marine dissect the video and the dude was using standard crap he learned while enlisted and the LEOs were totally unprepared for that stuff. Guess that's why it feels like some felony arrest when I get a speeding ticket these days.

My MHK brother told me this guy had a significant rap sheet and probably should have already been incarcerated.

Still not sure what the person's motive was, really sad, especially with the two little emaws :frown:

I thought it was pretty interesting how the guy turned himself in.

Probably true. I mean the suspect did reference the other rough rider who killed the last cops. But the other 2012 suspect could have made it if he didn't walk on his front porch and aim a gun the swat teams from 3 departments.

Cop killers usually don't get taken into custody alive unless there are media present.
