QUESTION: Why isn't Weber winning immediately like he did at Illinois?
ANSWER: Weber does not have NBA talent like he did with his first Illinois team.
QUESTION: Why did Weber fail to maintain a talent level at Illinois that was capable of merely producing winning records at a prestigious basketball school with a major city in his backyard?
ANSWER: Well, he did, but he ran out of time, they are winning under the new coach at Illinois.
See, he CAN recruit and he CAN win when he has good players!
If we have the patience to wait half a decade, we will be rewarded, right?

It's quite the pickle, no doubt. It seems like we might be further along with weber than we were with wooly, however the "look what illinois is doing this year, just give him time" will be a currie/oscar talking point.

Tuck 22?

Illinois this year should be the opposite of a oscar/Currie talking point.

The "oscar Factor" is defined (by me) as the increase in wins by Illinois this year less the increase (that's plus the decrease for the math impaired) in wins by K-State.
It is going to be a big number.

No, they are going to spin it as "see, oscar can recruit and get good kids, Illinois just didn't give him enough time."
it's not accurate and doesn't reflect or explain the previous 4/5 years of his stay at Illinois, but that doesn't matter.

Tuck 22?
It's a Joseph Heller reference.

It's all they will have, and the mindless, Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!), mouth breathing tucks will accept it. the tucks already are.
oscar is going to blame everything on offense because he knows he can't blame it on defense - because defense/toughness has been the brand here for 5 years. And that "offense" is going to "take time" and need the "right players" - tucks will accept that because it underpins most of their "Hoosiers" beliefs in how basketball is supposed to be played. Short shorts, "smart" hard working white kids (maybe throw in a token black guy, ya know one of the 'good ones'), and a coach'em up coach.

All the decent players Weber landed at Illinois was due to the fact he had Jerrance Howard on his staff. It isn't a surprise Jerrance is landing players at SMU for Larry Brown.
BTW, how do you KSU fans like Michael Orris? LOL

Illinois doing well this year is a talking point against oscar. He did terribly with them last year. Now some coach from Ohio goes in there and gets them in the top 10.

"Bubble" oscar had decent players at Illinois in Brandon Paul, DJamer Richardson, Tracy Abrams, Meyers Leonard, etc. The fact is these players I mentioned are made for a system that let's them get out and run - like Groce is doing with them now. I am an Illinois fan, and I can point out the negatives - Illinois doesn't have great on the ball defenders. They are prone to give up the dribble drive against guards/wings that are solid with the ball. If you have defenders that can't stop the dribble drive, what do you do as a coach? You use zone defenses, like Groce has done many times this year. oscar was too stubborn to change, and this is why I consider him a bad coach. All the great coaches in basketball adjust to the type of players they've assembled. oscar won't do that.

oscar needs time. A lot of time. Please.

patience is a virtue

Wow, you really are the KU version of a tuck. K-State tucks thought that joke w/ Turner Gill was a laugh riot. :dubious:

Only thing to do now is to crash into the Baltic and paddle for Sweden.
