Nirvana's music is super overrated but this will be interesting. Not trying to take away from their cultural significance but their music overall is crap

Pearl Jam, Deftones, Red Hot Chili Peppers are the best bands of the 90's but thats for a different thread :comehere:
-
Deftones?
Oh I'm sorry I thought we were talking about best bands.
-
Deftones?
Oh I'm sorry I thought we were talking about best bands.
I'm with you. I always hated that song about knocking on wood. The trumpets are too distracting.
-
STP kicks all other band's balls and taints.
-
And Sublime was the greatest band of the 90s.
/thread.
-
EllRobersonisInnocent and Bloodfart listen to a lot of 98.9 the ROCK!
-
I can't believe no one mentioned the Smashing Pumpkins. "Tonight, Tonight" is the best song form the 90's. Blows "Smells Like Teen Spirit" out of the water.
-

I was thinking rock bands earlier. Sublime is definitely top 5 of the 90's though

I wasn't allowed to listen to either of those bands in the early/mid-nineties, which made me think they were the greatest thing ever.
-
lot of l90'smiq going on in this thread.

But yeah, the Backstreet boys were the best band of the 90's.
And it isn't even close.
-
Bands I wasn't allowed to listen to, circa 1995:
Nirvana
Smashing Pumpkins
Beck
Soundgarden
Tool
Alice in Chains
Stone Temple Pilots
etc.
Basically anything even kinda heavy or grungy or dark at all. I was however allowed to listen to Pearl Jam for some reason. Not sure how the rating system worked, but I guarantee it had something to do with James Dobson.

Parents' rating systems are so weird. I was allowed to watch Beavis & Butthead but I couldn't watch The Simpsons.

Yeah, that is rough ridin' terrible. Those were the jams of my youth. I wouldn't be the Mr Bread I am today without those tunes probably. At least not 100% the same.

Teenage BF felt like he was doing something so bad when listening to Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar album. :ohno:
-
I was listening to Ratt, Quiet Riot, Metallica, and ACDC when I was 7 years old. Now I'm wondering if I'm so effed up because my music wasn't censored. :(

Not allowed to watch either. But we watched Cheers together all the time as a family. Cheers was about a horny Ted Danson trying to get laid and a bunch of drunk losers hanging out. And the Simpsons was about a family who loved each other.

felt it so hard to this song when a filly broke my heart..
also was feeling it to Eve 6's "here's to the nights we felt alive"
I like to think that's why they wrote it j-dub.
it feels like you were just mean to me mr. bread. i hope that wasn't the case, as i like you quite a lot and think your posting is pretty fab.. :frown:

Gave a mix CD to a chick I was trying to bang with "Calling You" by Blue October on it. I'm pretty sure that song got me laid. #fanningbrag

Not at all. I actually had an ex that made me a mix CD about our relationship and this was one of the songs she put on it. She was pretty great, but I unfortunately was a bit of a cheating self-absorbed dick at the time. Still reminds me of her and good times when I hear it, but also a little sadness you know?

Sublime has certainly aged better than all these other shitty 90's bands that we all love nostalgically.

What is that like some sort of special olympics for music or something? I mean good for those goofy bastards and all, but no thanks. I like my music like I like my sex acts, not performed by retardeds.

That's insulting.
I work with retards. We got this one kid, Mongo. He's got a forehead like a drive-in movie theater, but he's a good ship. So we don't bust his chops too much. So, one day Mongo gets out of his cage. I went out and I got him and I got him a leash. One of those ones you can hook on the clothesline, and he can run back and forth and there's plenty of room for him to dig and play. That kid really blossomed.

YES! I've played a few of their songs on turntable. They are great. Love "Body and Soul." Also, this video is a good example of why you shouldn't do drugs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QJfqArD3lw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

The only 90's band I love nostalgically is Green Day. Weezer and Smashing Pumpkins are damn good bands. Most of the nostalgia love is for one hit wonders.
(this is a non-sarcastic post, j-dub)

I always thought OK Computer was the best album of the 90s.
And I'd say that ABBA is out of Ace of Base's league.
-
Are we distinguishing between favorite 90's band and favorite shitty 90's band or are we just calling it a given that all 90's bands are/ were shitty.
Also, you guys are all pud for not mentioning Blind Melon.

Saw AIC several different times, one of my favorite live acts ever. I saw them in Wichita right after Jar of Flies wasreleased. Layne sat on my table for a few seconds. He was wearing gloves that show, come to find out they were likely to cover his track marks.

Can't disagree that "No Rain"was there only hit. It is a shame too, because they have a number of great songs that stand the test of time.

I'm super jealous. Love AIC. Wish I loved them before Layne was dead.
